I've been in the Oregon facility quite a few times...it's..um...impressive

It is incredible and the gold standard in college athletics. If they need anything to improve and keep up they have the one thing nobody else does except for maybe Okie State and T Boone Pickens - virtually unlimited funds.

Spend the money on assistant coaches and coordinators. No kid goes to a program to play for the x box room.
You must be at least 60 + plus years old because you are not in tune with today's kids. They look for intangibles like some people who shop for cars listen to the radio! Our new practice facility will pay HUGE dividends! Heck I would be willing to bet it is the reason we got Gran and Hinshaw! For one it suggest commitment and an understanding of what today's 18 year olds are looking at when choosing a program!

I am old redbud but I work around young people all the time and if you think training facility trinkets are more important than coaches in building football programs I believe recent history proves you wrong. If all it took was a few game rooms and put put golf courses anyone could have a champion because they are cheap and available. For instance UT has had some of the best facilities in the country for decades but their program floundered for the past 10 years until Butch was hired. A good coaching staff from top to bottom is the key and good coaches will find and develop good players.

I don't think anyone is saying coaches are not important, but all things being equal the facilities are a huge factor in where kids go. A stadium gets used 6-8 times a year, but the weight room, training table, practice fields, players lounge, game room are utilized every day. Teams are not putting in Chuck E Cheese's but functional items to improve player performance and recovery along with a little fun.

Answer me this without doing a Google search. What coaches at Oregon have been drawing kids in without saying Chip Kellly? That program is a perfect example of kids bypassing solid coaches to go to a school because of their facilities.

.One thing not mentioned enough about the facility is that it will have nearly all the players in it for six or more hours a day and in close proximity to the coaches and trainers the whole time.
Instead of eating one place, lifting in another and getting tutored in yet another they'll all be there in one place for the majority of their waking hours away from class.

That means less wasted time, more oversight and more access to the coaches and more access for the coaches as well.

Its a huge step forward

Even businesses do this today to help them compete and retain the younger employee that grew up with extras. Popcorn machines, mood rooms to de-stress. Nursing mother rooms, big flat screen TVs in break rooms and on and on. Anything to provide a leg up.

I actually went by there yesterday and it is pretty sweet so far. Very large footprint overall, and coaches tower is already up and ready to along with the shell of the building, some of the outside retaining walls around the perimeter... The new sensory deprivation tanks and huge cold tub will be awesome for players - would love one of those myself but I hated the small cold tanks. The new weight room will be around 14-15k square feet which is 4-5k larger than the current one, and players lounge is twice the size. Will be very nice when completed.
