Ky's Weakness..

We don't have a beefy true Power Forward. We have a bunch of Guards and a Bunch of Centers with Lyles who would rather play on the perimeter being the closest to a 4. No TJ or Randle type force in the paint. I said it when it happened, losing Poythress was huge! Not because he completed the 10 man platoon system but because he was the closest thing we had to a true 4 although a bit undersized at that position for the NBA but not College. We got knocked around a bit today by A&M and that will be the blue print.

Having said that I still think we'll compete for a National Championship. We have to really work on our transition game. We haven't scored on the lob very much lately at all. All in all it's a long season with plenty of time to figure it out. I've got total confidence in Cal.

We had Poythress for Texas and KU.. UofL only has one skilled big man.. KU also played us man to man.. Texas A&M played that 2-3 zone and had 3 beefy bigs in the paint while we had 3 guys passing around the perimeter with 2 guys in the post. Every time we got the ball inside A&M would collapse on us. Most of the time we didn't have the strength to finish. We had a lot of our shots blocked today. Our 1/2 court game does not look good right now.. Again, I think we'll adjust and get better but we could really use a Randle or TJ type player and we don't have it..

UK has guards that don't shoot that good, but still feel the need to chuck every shot from outside.

Our weakness is we don't have a point guard that can finish in the paint. Changes the whole offense. We will get by the first level in the zone and then, even though one dribble gets them in the 10-footer range, we either kick it back out or force it all the way to the basket.

I assume your speaking of the Harrisons.. They're aver. is in the mid 30's combining 3's and FGP. Ulis is 48.1 fg's and 44.4 from the outside.. Booker is 49.5 fg's and 49.1 from the outside.. That's pretty damn good.

I see what one poster is saying about PG play but today when we got it in the paint our bigs really struggled in the 1st half. They did make some big plays down the stretch.. Dakari was awesome in ot.. But again, we got handled today with WCS and KAT fouling out. That generally means your having trouble guarding you man.. They certainly had trouble finishing too..

We're much better in transition, our 1/2 court game needs work.. We'll get better though.. We are 15-0! So I'm probably knit picking but that's what fans do..

BINGO, can`t hit the broad side of a barn at times and that really makes us look very vulnerable when that happens but when we are hitting forget it, its over.

The Harrisons have seemed to struggle.. They came out swinging against Ole Miss then went cold. They struggled today too. Ulis and Booker are pretty consistent and Lyles has a decent mid range jumper. I think we need to push the ball more and utilize our length on the fast break. What happened to the lobs in transition?

I really thought we would roll Texas A&M especially after what happened at Rupp Tues. night.

Didn't we shoot 55% from 3 against Ole Miss.. We made 11 threes in that game..

Whenever one of our bigs get the ball in the paint they swarm him. They're not very strong with the ball so they end up losing it a lot of the time. They are also gang rebounding so we don't kill them on the offensive glass. The Harrison's shoot too much, and in the last two games, we don't get many second chance opportunities.

Thus the point of my post.. We really don't have that traditional Power Forward.. Ala Julius Randle, Chuck Hayes, Terrance Jones.. KAT can be that guy but he's a freshman.. He'll likely be gone before he reaches that level.. WCS is a Great Player but he's not really strong enough to power through a double team.. When we get out in transition we really shine.. I haven't seen that much lately.. Kinda puzzling..
