Strange game. Great defense on both sides. Great performance and talent from AJ Henning (how good is that kid going to be in the next few years?). Like Hub, I was questioning why Zvonar was playing Morrissey at QB. However, he knows his team and player. The kid is a warrior.

So many Irish names on LWE, you gotta wonder how they all got away from the CCL Blue.
Big migration from the city 20 years ago. Lot of CCLr’s out that way. Good schools but high taxes. Lot of families can’t pay both. STL alum told me the number one zip code for alumni mailings is in the LW district.

Some very good games today. Congrats to all the winners!!!

It is a shame the TV audience didn’t get a chance to see BMO Brendan Morrissey on two wheels the last half of the MS game and tonight. Why play him...simple, at QB in HS he is undefeated having been a running back junior year. He will not be a QB unless D3 but he is a winner. LWE also has sophs A.J. Henning, and kicker extraordinaire Dominic Dzioban for the future.

Congrats to both teams, but especially to LWE. They were the better team last night and deserved the W.
How this is the first meeting of these two programs is a shame. Maine South and the Griffins have met 6 Times now in 16 years. Loyola the first meeting. Great game with two programs that are trending up. Congrats to the Ramblers for a great season battling a ton of injuries.

Just finished watching it on tv. Agree with you. LWE played championship ball last night. There were many times it seemed like that they could have folded but did not. They would cause a turnover ( and scored )and /or a key third down stop when needed. Hopefully for LA they learned that mistakes are back breakers against good teams and will cost a team dearly in tough battles.

Ever drive from Wilmette to Frankfort on a Friday night (or vice-versa). I’ve driven on vacations that have taken less time

Actually yes. Every year when LA plays Provi. Long drive on a Friday night but great hosts down there.

You’re correct but that’s your conference choice. I thought you did it every other year no?

Congrats to LWE! They played championship football all season and definitely did so late in the game last night when it counted most. It was impressive to see so many solid players all over the field with Henning and O'Rourke being on another level. Credit the QB for toughing it out. He was limping pretty bad by the end of the MS game and took a pretty rough tackle by Dixon that took him out briefly last night. Also gotta give credit to the coaches for making the adjustment late in the game to get Henning the ball out of the back field. There's your difference (amongst some other things).

I'm proud of my Ramblers. These seniors overcame a lot of doubts and deserve kudos for their belief in themselves and the coaches. Quinn Boyle carried this team on his back all year. Never seen an LA QB do so much AND take so many hits. Two soph O-line starters that were playing fresman ball a year ago grew up a ton this year. I mean a ton! Faced the vaunted D-lines of Phillips, Bishop Amat, the CCL-Blue, Marist, Edwardsville and LWE. Two soph RBs that stepped up throughout the course of the year to fill for Bullie who overcame a full blown ACL/MCL tear late last year only to tear the meniscus in the other knee in Rd 2 of the playoffs this year. Surgery on Tuesday- wish him well...great kid! Juniors - Dixon (33), Gonzalez (16), Boos (19) and Jones (3) all made names for themselves and are next up to be charged with keeping the bar high.

I'm sure every program has their story/narrative for the season. Gotta love HS football!

Great post LA and so spot on. It's tough going into a game like that with your running game hobbled by injury. The coaches put together a fantastic game plan. They played to win. Bullie going out there with the meniscus tear was unreal. Jay Cutler took himself out of the Green Bay championship game a few years ago with the same injury. Bullie is a stud and that type of grit is contagious to the younger guys. It truly is a great day to be a Rambler!

Smart people.. We don't live in the city anymore so the public school is excellent at academics and sports and we don't have to pay tuition.

@kvboyle912 I can't say it enough. The toughness, maturity, leadership and humbleness your son possesses has been a gift to me and all of his coaches and teammates and LA. Two of my most enjoyable coaching experiences were his freshman basketball team and soph football team. I'm sure he is taking last night hard but there is so much to be proud of and thankful for.

Thanks for the kind words LaGuy. I’m very proud to call him my son, and while I’d like to think I have had a hand in the great young man he is becoming, I also know that he is a product of the many fine coaches that have molded him into the player and person he is, which of course includes you. Quinn is of course disappointed with the outcome last night, but he will never define himself by the final numbers on the scoreboard...only by the effort he put forth and the positive impact he had on those around him. On that score, he is and always will be a champion. He will come to know this once he puts some distance between himself and this defeat. And to the LWE fans on this board, congrats on a well earned and much deserved victory last night. Your team played with a lot of heart and did what it had to do to win, and that is the sign of a true champion.

LA guy...Thanks for sharing your thoughts and story with the LWE folks. The lessons learned are often in the journey and not the actual game itself. There are very few of these players who are not banged up this time of the season and the drive for the “Family” they play for is very impressive. Having respect for the competition is key to these young and their future success as well. Loyola obviously has found the key as well.

Your boy and his team played on hell of a game last night. We were overly concerned in the 3rd Qt as your kid was killing us. We are fortunate to be on the winning side of this one as you could have been as well.
