Also must be awkward to try and win in the playoffs with their current centers

I was gonna Silver should veto but he made it happen. I can’t imagine not fielding 28 other offers.
Doesn't make ANY sense. You have a top 5 player in the league and you don't even give those teams a chance to see what they have to offer. No way anyone can convince me they wanted Davis THAT bad.

I heard it was because he shot instead of passing to Bronny.

Knecht being traded.

Glad to see Knecht back with my Lakers. I personally wanted to see Reeves and Knecht spotting up should get some great looks from Luka and Bron.

Downside is this really craters the Lakers already thin chances of a championship this year. The center position on the team is rough.

And Luka is only on the hook for this year, right?

You only shop him around if the purpose of the trade is to improve the Mavericks on the court. That obviously is not the reason this deal was made.

I don't pretend to understand how the NBA works. But, even if you want to dump a guy, you don't dump a MVP level guy (in the beginning of his prime), for a guy that's teeing off on the back nine, that plays 1/3 of the time. Dump him for whatever reason you want, but the price tag seems a bit odd, IMO. They def could've gotten more than AD.

That’s the point. They didn’t want more than AD. The owners want the Texas legislature to legalize casinos in the state or they’re going to blackmail them by threatening to move the Mavericks to Las Vegas. The league owners won’t approve that if the team is good. By the 2029 legislative session AD will be 35, Kyrie will be 36, Klay will be retired and they’ll do nothing to improve. By 2029 the Mavs won’t be worth a 💩.

That seems like quite a reach.

I wish I knew now where to find it but there’s an interview with Mark Cuban where he explains why he sold the majority share of the team (he still owns 27.5%). The plan is for the Mavs to be part of a casino/sports/hotel/entertainment mega-complex with a valuation of over $20B - making him richer than he currently is even with only a 27.5% share. Just look at the people he sold the team to. It’s pretty clear what’s going on.

Crazy to me Cousins is not in the League, especially for the price you could get him for. If you have no center why wouldn't you call him?

He hasn't played in the NBA since 2022 and he's 34. Think he's finished unfortunately.

As far as roster construction the Lakers need a springy athletic rim runner to pair with Luka than a back to the basket center.

It’s actually a highly discussed theme in the Dallas area.

The new owners are already really hated down there, and folks are pissed at Mark Cuban for selling to them. They made their fortune in Vegas casinos and it’s been widely suspected since the day of purchase that they may have their sights set on moving the franchise to Vegas.

A suspicion only compounded by puzzling moves like the Luka trade:

AD was looking at a 40-20-10 game before he got hurt today. Hope he's OK. Dallas fans are PISSED about Luka getting dealt and it put AD in a tough situation.

Not getting Williams is a blow to the Lakers. A solid big alongside Luka/LeBron would've been tough to deal with during the playoffs.

The only issue here is there's a lot of smoke and mirrors that the Vegas franchise is meant for LeBron when he retires. But I've also heard that a move could happen if Texas does not legalize casinos, which they may not.

What I've hated in this whole situation is the press and fans online have acted like AD is some kind of bum. Yes, he's had an injury history but this guy isn't like 1999 Shawn Kemp who ate his way through a refrigerator or a total bust like Greg Oden. He's a really, really good player.

^Agree. He's probably a Hall of Famer and still in his prime. He was looking to make a statement today before he pulled his oblique, or whatever it was. He was dominating.

If read this several places but it would be easier to move Minnesota and Memphis to the East and bring in Seattle and Las Vegas as expansion teams. They didn't have to destroy the Mavericks but with the state not wanting gambling and the rich guys wanting it they will fight and create chaos. Mavericks aren't going anywhere and the Texas government will allow gambling.

This was a League making sure Lakers had a star move. Told all my fellow Lakers fans that best part of hiring Reddick was we've got a Dookie that Silver can take care of now. Mavs GM and AD go back to Nike days when he was in HS. This deal was done to help the Lakers, get some interest in the NBA with the new TV deal about to start and the league with putrid TV ratings to the point it's embarrassing. What was talked about all of Super Bowl Week/overshadowed the Super Bowl? AD-Luka deal.

I understand why the Mavs fans didn't want to see Luka go but the lack of understanding how good of a player AD is was laughable. They had a radio guy comparing acquiring Anthony Davis to a FB acquisition of ZaDarius Smith and some picks. I mean that's so lacking in knowledge that you should've been fired for being an idiot about the sport of basketball if that's the comp you make.
