That's impossible. Rivals has it out for uk and purposely devalues our 5-7 team talent.

But congrats to him and hopefully we see this on the field with drake, Daniel, and all the high ranked guys on the roster.

Great jab. I agree with you. Some UK fans have always taken this stance to help rationalize poor recruiting. This is one reason why I'm in the "Stoops has a longer leash camp for right now." Heck, we've had poor coaches before but they've all been pretty poor recruiters. I'm willing to sit back and watch what happens with improved recruiting.....for a while. If Stoops figures out the coaching bit we will be on to something tremendous.

Thought Griffin got his 4th star at the last iteration of the rankings (when Young climbed up into the 50's). Could be wrong though.

Interested to see where all of our guys end up.

Re Griffin and 4th star...JR mentioned it a couple of hours ago. Maybe Rivals has bumped him and Scout had done so previously.

#29 overall player in the country...that is impressive! Kid is most likely going to start from day 1 for us.

Yeah I don't see Young redshirting. I don't think he'll start but may get the nod by mid year depending on how others progress from now til then.

For those concerned/interested, that 5th star will keep UK in T25 of final team rankings & maybe in T20.

Most of our guys are going to get bumps in the final ranking. This is another incredible class Stoops is bringing in.

Have you done the math? Im curious how many more points we get? As of now it only looks like it added 15points going from a 6.0 4 star to a 6.1 5 star.

I'm happy for Landon Young that his talent is being recognized. But I almost wish it hadn't happened. Whether a 4 star or a 5 star, Landon Young is still a Kentucky Wildcat either way. The extra star doesn't make him a better player than he already is. It's just hype. That's all. Too many of our fans pay too much attention to ratings hype, and gin up too much unrealistic expectation on the internet. We see it happen every year, but they never learn. But the smartest fans see what happened to Micah Johnson, Matt Elam, George Asafo-Adjei as freshmen, and they learned that having a bunch of stars doesn't make a high school senior ready to play SEC football no matter how strong he is. I'm concerned that too many fans will now misconstrue 5 stars to mean that Landon Young ought to start in 2016. But if we have learned anything from prior mistakes, we should know by now that all freshman offensive linemen need a redshirt. That is especially true for offensive tackles.

I agree with you to an extent but not all 5 stars are created equal. UK is not Bama if Young is better than Meadows and Mosier he will play. The kid is a nfl talent even the elite programs play there 5 star olineman . Will he take some lumps learning the scheme yes. Landon is better right now than what we have.

I think he worked hard. This is a reward for hard work. And, the hype helps UK recruit, IMO.

How does hype help us? I would argue the opposite. I think positive news definitely helps, but I differentiate positive news from hype. Hype is fluff for obsessed fans, and players almost never manage to live up to it. George Asafo Adjei, Jordan Swindle, and Darrian Miller were good, solid offensive linemen who were overhyped and didn't receive redshirts. All offensive linemen need redshirts. If anyone doesn't believe Young needs a redshirt year, then please name 1 former Kentucky offensive lineman who didn't receive a redshirt, or a grayshirt with January enrollment, and still lived up to hyped expectations.

Future QB and RB recruits can see an elite prospect has committed. That would mean something to me if my son played those positions. I can see that services believe Stoops is doing the job in the trenches.

And not all linemen need RSs. Too many top programs show us otherwise each and every year.

Your post is a perfect example of exactly what I fear now. As the stars grow, fan expectations grow. But stars are just hype for hungry fans. Please name 1 Kentucky offensive tackle who proved he was ready to play as a true freshman. Antonio Hall wasn't ready, and he was rated as the top offensive tackle prospect in the whole country. Darrian Miller wasn't ready. George Asafo-Adjei clearly wasn't. Garry Williams grayshirted, enrolled in January, played in spring practice, then began his Wildcat career as a guard. Warren Bryant, Jonas Liening, Justin Jeffries redshirted. Dermotti Dawson was the best offensive lineman at Kentucky since freshmen were given the right to play by rule in the 1970s, but Coach Claiborne knew he needed a redshirt too. Can we learn from history?

Landon Young is the player he is. No matter how many stars are given to Landon, it won't change who he is or how well he plays. And you can't truthfully say Kentucky has never had an offensive tackle like Young. Antonio Hall was a 5 star prospect. In fact, Hall was the top offensive line prospect in the whole country. Please name 1 Kentucky offensive tackle who proved he didn't need a redshirt. Ever.

first ever 5 star recruit at UK right?
Of course not. Antonio Hall, Yancey Reynolds, Micah Johnson were 5 stars. Hall was the top offensive line prospect in the country. I believe 1 service awarded 5 stars to Morgan Newton and 1 service awarded 5 stars to Matt Elam. During the 1990s, Tim Couch and Dennis Johnson were both declared the #1 prospects in the whole country regardless of position by USA Today.

First, congrats to Landon Young!

2nd, the coaches are either going to play Landon Young or they aren't. I think that he plays & likely starts, but only time will tell.

3rd, I also think that havjng a 5 star OT should be a big boost for recruiting. If UK can land Wills (another 5 star), it should help recruiting even more!

Pretty sure that Y Reynolds was just a 4.

Matt Elam was a 5 star by one service.

I'd guess that Al Baker probably would've been a 5 star based on his measurables and potential. He was hyped up pretty high.
