Language On the Board....

Alright - I've gotten soft in my old age, and I know I'm not around as often (especially in the off-season) as I used to be....I also know last night was a special and HUGE night.

But we are getting a little free and loose with the language around here. I used to get upset over the "damns" and the "hells" but I've let that slide....But let's try to keep it there. F-Bombs missing a letter along with other choices words really should be kept off the board.

Call me old fashioned, but it's a level of respect we've always maintained here on the board (that doesn't necessarily mean I don't scream it at my TV set, or on the golf course) and I've usually been the one to police it. All that have known me for the better part of 17 years remember those days lol? (Can you believe it's been that long???)

Thank you so much K-ville. Nobody is required to think and believe what I do. But I remember earlier years you didn’t see much swearing on this board and as a Christian I liked that. But it’s been a bit of a free for all recently and it has taken away my enjoyment of this place.

So thank you.

Listen, I know this is never a popular topic or conversation. But it's how we need to conduct business around here....and it's a fairly long standing practice that we've been too lax on in recent years.

Yes Sir Kville. This board is by far the best that's out there and looking at the other nonsense that's allowed on those boards, I appreciate the Mods here for sure and will surely do my best to oblige.

So kind of off topic, but kind of on so I thought I'd share...

I'm in a Dads group in my hometown. Its basically guys asking when recycling night is and about sports and all that sort of stuff.

So there are these two guys who are always posting stuff thats a bit... well, off color. Pictures of girls with boobs out, dumb memes... some of it is funny, but some of it is sort of trashy. This one guy is just typical NJ Italian American white trash, and I say that as a NJ Italian American white guy... he is basically a nice guy, but it's bad. So a few days ago he posted some photo of a nude girl bent over from behind with a piece of pizza on her *** and some joke. Because... why not share pictures of a girls butt hole with a dads group or something? He shares several of these a days, half of them involving someone naked. Then the other guy has started in with all of these nasty political memes.

Finally one guy posted that he was a bit sick of all of the NSFW stuff and the political attack stuff, and could we just get back to regular dad stuff.

Holy cow. You would have thought he raped their daughters. A few of these guys went after him SO nastily... you f'ing ***, you *****, why don't you go join the Mom group, your (of course) just a beta male among a bunch of alphas, etc etc etc etc etc etc. I mean, it went on and on and on, comment after comment after comment.

And I was just like... wtf? These are the people you live with, the guys who coach your kids soccer team, the guys who help out at the local church fundraisers... what are you guys doing? You aren't teenagers posting on some message board with people you'll never meet; this is your community, your neighbors. Save that stuff for the appropriate venue.

But some of them are STILL ranting and raving. The mod of the group ended up having to shut a bunch down and make it so that all posts have to be approved, which of course infuriated some of these douchey guys, who are sure that it is a sign of end times, that men are doomed, and so on and so forth... all because a guy in a dads group said "Hey, I have daughters, I'm really not interested in seeing women with their legs spread on my Facebook feed."

It just baffles me. How on earth do people behave like this with the people in their own community? How do they get so angry at someone asking for it to stop? How do you use language like that at someone who might live on your block?

Anyway... just happened yesterday, and I thought it was SO strange.

Well, it's along the lines of behavior in a group, language, and all of that, so it is sort of connected? :)
