Anyone had lasik surgery? If you don't mind, how much did it cost you and was it worth it?
At 62 before l retired l had it done. I could only do the mono vision where they only lasered my right for reading. It cost $1200. It is a bear to drive with one eye. especially at night. I had to get glasses to help with driving and being comfortable watching live ball games and even TV. Now 69 and was told last year I'm in early stages of cataracts so l wear glasses totally except to read. If I had it to do over l wouldn't do it. Just ask lots of questions, but to be fair my wife's BF had the same done and loves it.

I had it done 20 yrs ago in Cincy. The doctor, who was a UK grad, had a special going for $599 and eye. I still have 20/20 vision and I'm 65 yrs old.

One of the best things I ever did to get away from glasses and contacts.

I don't know, friend of mine had it done probably 20yrs ago and he's back to wearing glasses/contacts again. YMMV.

Had it done in 2007, as I turned 40. Was great. Doc told me “you’ll be back in 5 years or so as your ability to see up close fades, we’ll have to take care of that.” That never happened. 52 now, and can still see very small print unaided. But......the distance vision, corrected by LASIK, began to wear off. By 5 years after I’d had the surgery, I was started to squint a little at the scroll across the bottom of the television. Within 10 years, it had worn off completely, or nearly completely - whatever, I needed glasses again. The doc explained to me those two things are not unrelated - the fact that my eyes can still see very well up close has something to do with the decreasing distance vision.

Another weird thing. When I was younger and wore contacts, I could read up close even with the contacts in. Now, I can’t. Something about the eyes being less flexible as we get older. No contacts, I see great up close but can’t see far away. Put contacts in, I see far away but can’t see up close. Just got some multifocal contacts, and am getting used to them. So, bottom line, it was great while it lasted, and I’d do it again, but at least in my case it was good for less than 10 years. No idea if my story is common or unique.....

That's my story except I went to Indy and I'm not an old fart like you. Just 60. It was a cattle call and they just ran us through. I was talking to them while they were doing it, very relaxed atmosphere. No one told me and I didn't think about it, but you can hear your eye balls sizzle while the laser burns and it smells like burning hair.

It's not painless either. I was miserable at the motel until I finally went to sleep. Woke up the next morning though with no pain and perfect vision.

Highly recommend.

Got it done 5yrs ago this May. Best decision I made. In the Spring and sometimes Fall, my allergies would act up and I couldn't wear my contact in my right eye. Literally the worst. Wish I could have done it sooner. I always fell asleep with my contacts in. I think it was around 1500-2000 if I remember correctly. Only takes 10-15 minutes. Its the longest minute when the doc tell you, you will go blind for a second and then it becomes blurry again after going black. The smell of your eye burning is pretty cool though.

What liability do the doctors have? Like if something goes wrong and I end up blind, can I sue the crap out of them? Or do I have to sign something waiving all of my rights?

2k for both eyes, Lasik Vision Institute---when I graduated from UK 12 years ago, the Lexington branch sent you Cincinnati for the surgery. It was on Saturday morning and it was like herding cattle through stall for sales and slaughter. FWIW I consider it the best 2 grand I ever spent. I had astigmatisms on both eyes, which made wearing contacts a living hell, and glasses suck...so pretty positive experience with the lasik deal.
