Last Will and Testament

My wife told me to create a last will and testament and wants to break the bank to get it done. My kids are young, we don't have complicated assets (i.e., no real estate to sell), and we have decided who would take care of the children if anything were to happen.

Anybody have any guidance on the cheapest way to line this up? And when I say cheap, I mean I don't even want to pay LegalZoon $300.

My wife's grandmother wrote a will and had 2 people sign it. She pulled it out of her dresser and set it on her kitchen table the day she had a heart attack and died.

Question for the lawyers, but I will say that I was one of many very very small heirs to a lady that had a $8 Million estate, and all she had was a hand written will. It held up in probate - and it was in the state of Kentucky.

Yep, I don't work in that area, but estate/tax planning is a huge area of law practice these days, lots of ways to save money and take care of your heirs.

Divide your assets up among a dozen or so posters here.

Mail them a letter explaining what you want done with the things you give them upon your death.

Have the posters carry it out and post about it here. Include your log-in information in each letter so we can watch this unfold.

a) Holographic Will does work in Kentucky. Must be written (not printed), signed and dated by you and witnessed by 2 people who will receive nothing from the Will.
b) Under Ky law you MAY not even need a Will. Your spouse gets 1/2 if you die, kids get other half. Depends on what you have
c) Do get a Will for the concern that you and your spouse may pass away together (car wreck). Who gets your kids? Who do you WANT to take care of your kids? If they are under the age of 18 your assets need to be placed in a Trust for them. Who would you want to administer said Trust? What kind of Trust? Spendthrift? Go talk to a lawyer, they should not charge you for first meeting.

Get as many credit cards as possible and max them out by buying everyone nice gifts. Make certain that no one else is responsible for your debts after you die and rid yourself of all assets. Timing is critical. Do this just before dying so debt collectors cannot hassle you..
