Wow what a game - huge win for the Vikes - very tough L on Homecoming for the Stangs. Rough road left for Rita - will need to beat either LA, MC or Rice to get into playoffs.
Great write up Rock - yes Zaleski is a great player. Tough loss at home. They have a tough stretch vs LA and MC on the road so in all reality those are going to be tough to win. However, they then get a non-conf game to get back on track and face Rice at home (which in reality will be the make or break on whether they get to the playoffs or the fast track to the Prep Bowl). So as long as they stay healthy vs LA and MC then anything can happen. Rice is susceptible to the pass deep.
They played MC very tough in the Prep Bowl Playoffs last season. This is a big rivalry for both schools and is usually a close game. In '14 MC was down and played SR well in the regular season. I expect nothing less than a hard fought game this coming Friday at Gately, SR will be playing to win, not just to stay healthy. This game will also help the MC folks find out what this year team really is. Need to play mistake free and run the option well.Great write up Rock - yes Zaleski is a great player. Would I be correct to assume that Baby Gronk is the son of St Rita legend John Zaleski ?http://www.chicagotribune.com/subur...-laurence-st-rita-st-0918-20160916-story.html
There's the write-up for those interested.
My notes:
I predicted SR 56 SL 50 in 3OTs so the Flip of a coin closeness and high score is no surprise.
Vs St. Patrick, SR was down by 3 scores, 33-14, before coming back but eventually losing 47-44
Vs Provy, SR was down by Two Scores before coming back to win in OT
Vs StL, SR was down 28-14 at half before taking the lead with 3~minutes left, 42-38 before losing in the last minute 45-42 on one of those classic HS plays that the Vikings players get to cherish and talk about for the rest of their lives.
I also said earlier this week that SR could finish 2-7 or 8-1 and I still believe that but now it's 2-7 or 7-2. They will be in every game until the final whistle. But those big early deficits (very bad execution on Rita's part but also their opponents doing well and capitalizing and making the plays early) against very good teams has to stop.
SR JR RB #1 had some nice runs and ran hard.
SR's SouthSide Baby Gronk #7 showed again how great of a player he is. If a Division 1 Big Ten or MAC team does not give him an offer as a Hybrid TE than I know absolutely nothing about football.
Fayzon Smart is a great RB and should win POTW honors or be in high consideration
Washington (StL QB) runs the read option correctly and with Smart, make a duo that will make another long run into the state playoffs
The crowd was big. The atmosphere was everything one enjoys about Friday night lights. The St. Laurence student section brought their A game. The refs did fine all night with some tough calls. Great win by and for the Viking program but SR will not go gently the rest of the season.

He comes from good stock as I'm sure the big fella from LA does too.Nephew. But that's SouthSide Baby Gronk. The original Baby Gronk is #14 for LA
