Lawn Mower Thread

I am looking to buy a new zero turn mower in the $6,000 to $8,000 range. Will use it to cut about 6 acres a week. So far, World Lawn has the best deal with the 60" Cobra for around $6,500. Anybody have experience with the World Lawn brand*? Any suggestions for comparable machines in my price range?

*I realize the company is owned by the Chinese. That is why I am asking for comparable equipment.

I got a 54 Bob-Cat with a kawasaki engine for $5k with 5 year warranty. You should be able to find an American company in that range. I would go that direction due to parts, service, etc.

I would check craigslist as well, tons of used ones still under warranty from people that overbought or are moving.

Hate to intrude on your thread but looking for one in the $3K range myself for .75 acres. Have been using a friend's 60" commercial Kubota that is way overkill and he is moving. Thing is awesome and was very generous of him, that said it is brutal on my yard weight-wise and shoots fire and brimstone into all my mulch beds no matter which direction I cut.

Looking at a 42 or 46 Tory-Bilt from Lowe's with a mulch kit and possibly a bagger. Low end but about all I need, I think.

Not sure about that brand.

Scag, Grasshopper, Dixie......all are very good brands. Cub Cadet makes some good, less expensive (than $6-8,000) options.

Also, 6 acres a wk? Could you use a tractor and bush hog? Your initial expense may be a little higher, but you'd likely save a lot more money and time in the long run.

Long story short I will use it for ~3 acres and my BIL will use it for ~3 acres. Tractor won't work because there are to many ponds, barns, trees, gardens, etc to mow around for it to be effective.

I have checked the local Scag dealer...they mostly sell Bad Boy and only have 4 mowers in stock, 1 too small and the other 3 too expensive. The Bad Boy were comparable to the World Lawn, but for $1,500 more.

Will check into Dixie and grasshopper.

Juan, my yard guy cuts my 1.2 acres for about $1,500 per year. That's a better deal than laying out $8,000 for a mower plus gas and annual service. It also allows me to spend my time enjoying more pleasurable pursuits.

Do you have kids? If so, I would bet they are not young. I want to be out of the house(aka out of child care responsibilities) every Saturday. It's a bonus that I actually enjoy yard work and the alone time on the mower. I am also splitting the cost with my BIL, so max of 4,000. by the 4th summer I am saving money doing something I enjoy.

Dixie and Grasshopper are outrageous. They are on the high end with Scag and Exmark.

Hustler makes some good mid-tier mowers from what a hear.

I would stay away from Box store mowers and would try to get a Kawasaki engine.

I've got a Hustler 54in, 64cc Sport. (They have replaced it in their line up with the Raptor.) It's been a good mower. I have 2 acres that I mow. Had it 3yrs and gave about 5K. No complaints. FCC.

I've been going to Bishop's in Richmond for yrs. Nice selection of better brands......Cub Cadet, Grasshopper, etc. and will give you a good price with trade ins.

Brother has 61" Bobcat with a Kawi and loves it (ProCatSE). I am considering that and the Hustler mostly due to price around $6K.

I'm in same boat. Would love an ExMark, but I'm afraid they are too much $ for equal product.

As far as engines go, they all have fans and detractors.

You are right, I have no child care responsibilities and don't really enjoy mowing. I hope you find a good mower.

I'm 8 miles west of Paducah. Heartland Outdoor equip. is across Pugh's Midway on Old Cairo rd. Gary and Jamie own and run it. Large stock of Hustlers. FCC.

I mow my landlord's property, about 21/2 acres, each week for reduced rent. He bought a Grasshopper 4 years ago and I love it.
