The 12 team CFP (14 in two years) makes the current bowl system unnecessary. Going to a bowl game 40 years ago meant something. Between players opting out and the travel costs, the current bowl system should be junked.

Just get rid of them or turn it into a G5 tournament in a place like Orlando. Gives G5 some exposure and something to play for when the inevitable 99% of them don’t go undefeated and earn a chance to get killed in the real CFP.
