My number one road rule is if Luke Bryan or Aldean come on the radio it's an automatic channel change. FGL is pretty god awful as well. It's to the point that if I have no choice but the radio I just listen to top 40 or rock. Who are your most cringeworthy country music artists?

FLG by far. Aldean doesn't bother me too bad because his band is a great rock band.

Do Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift count? Unbelievable to me how they can be popular. Maybe we are in the End of Days.

There was a guy named Chris Gaines who put out an album a few years back. He tried to make a crossover to rock, but you could tell he was a country singer. What a hack. I bet that dude is working at McDonalds or something now.

All of them. They have all earned the designation as my "least favorite country pop singer".

In defense of Taylor Swift, at least she writes her own songs. That fact alone makes her one of the most talented "country" artists.

And on a side note, her bikini body is on touching point.

Shew wee

Luke Bryan is #1 for me. His music isn't even annoyingly catchy. He's basically just a pretty face that squeezes into smedium shirts and painted on jeans, then prances around stage lip-synching. To awful music, nonetheless.

Florida-Georgia Line is up there, too, but their song with Nelly is so ridiculous it actually amuses me. Like, I literally have a grin on my face right now just thinking about all 3 of those bozos country rapping.

Re: Taylor Swift's body - if you're into anorexic, horse-faced chicks, have at it. Me, not so much.

As far as least favorite - just about all of the 'bro' country nowadays. Literally, if I hear a male voice on a modern country song, I change the channel. All of them are just so annoying and bereft of talent. Some of the women also fall into this category but there are some that I like listening to so I can't lump them all together. But, the men of country .....sheesh. Just awful dreck.

I'm on board with the Bryan/Aldean. Nashville loves to find good looking guys, have them grow some scruff, put them in cowboy/metrosexual outfits and get them to sell awful records to chicks that drop their panties whenever they see them.

I don't hate Taylor Swift like some others. She writes her own music. Plays multiple instruments. She's self-deprecating. I kind of give her a pass on some of her cheesy stuff because she sings about what she knows...she's a young girl that is about love, relationships, and BS drama. I hate to admit it really, but some of her stuff is actually kind of catchy (and plenty is awful).

Luke Bryan
. He's gotta be at the top of the list. Good grief his music is terrible. Every song sounds exactly the same. He doesn't even have a good voice. Guess there are a lot of 17 year old girls in this country. I can't imagine anyone else paying to see him. At least Aldean and some of the others have a few tunes you can bob your head to.

Despite popular belief, there are some good singers these days. Guys like Chris Young and Josh Turner come to mind.

Aldean has no business being mentioned with Luke Bryan.

Sure, Aldean has some awful singles just like any other popular/radio artist...but he also has a lot of really good music, and is a great show.

Luke Bryan tho?
My God.

...and yeah, Chris Young is dope. Like a lot of his stuff.

Luke Bryan, and its not close. As others have mentioned, Aldean shouldn't be mentioned in this same group. The guy is pretty decent.

I don't like Blake Shelton's music. Eric Church's voice is too annoying even if he has a few catchy songs.

A few points to add:
•Taylor Swift openly switched to pop music and I actually think she's better because of it. At least she admits she doesn't make country music.
•I can't get on board with Aldean, but I'll admit his early stuff was decent.
•Josh Turner is great, and most of Chris Young's songs are good with the exception of "aw naw".
•Blake has some good songs but killed it for me with that chew tobacco spit song.

Houston has a massive livestock show and rodeo every year where big name (mostly country) artists perform every night for a month. First show to sell out this year....Luke Bryan.

This event can draw pretty much any artist it wants...and this is the result. We're gonna see Church, Jackson, and Paisley. Aside from Alan Jackson, I'd rather see Sundy Best than any other person here.

March 3 - Eric Church
March 4 - Hunter Hayes
March 5 - Miranda Lambert
March 6 - John Legend
March 7 - Alan Jackson
March 8 - Fall Out Boy
March 9 - Justin Moore
March 10 - Tim McGraw
march 11 - Brantley Gilbert
March 12 - Zac Brown Band
March 13 - Pitbull
March 14 - Billy Currington
March 15 - La Arrolladora Banda El Limn & La Maquinaria Nortea
March 16 - Dierks Bentley
March 17 - Ariana Grande
March 18 - Florida Georgia Line
March 19 - Blake Shelton
March 20 - The Band Perry
March 21 - Brad Paisley
March 22 - Luke Bryan

Two that I hate, that aren't necessarily as "pop" as they are just now terrible sellouts are Trace Adkins and Toby Keith. Keith put out some really great stuff in the late 90s, but then he struck it with "How Do You Like Me Now," and he cemented his move towards this subculture of douchy 'I'm a badass, too cool, all the ladies love me' country music. Trace Adkins followed similar footsteps as top new country artist in 1996 and then by 2003 he was pumping out stupid songs like, "Hot Mama," and even worse in 2005, "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." I feel like these two helped to further open the door towards watering down country music and filling it with people who don't care about real deep feelings and music, they only care about a buck.

Newer stuff... Sun Daze by FGL (which I had to look up the name of it) may be the worst song I've ever heard. Ear bleeding bad. I don't listen to much of it at all anymore, but my radio got stuck on this one the other day and it clung to me like stale smoke, and left me feeling disgusted.

I kind of like Miranda Lambert and Zac Brown Band, but probably not enough that I would go buy a ticket to see them play. In fact, ML was just at Rupp Arena and I did not go. Just think she and ZBB have some decent songs.

They're all awful. I hate country music in general, but give me some good ol mid 80s-late 90s country and I'm set. Could listen to that stuff for days compared to the crap that gets played on radio now.
This really annoys me. You're taking *20* years -- 2 decades worth of music, and in your mind cherry-picking your favorite artists, and acting like that's a perfect representation for the entire genre. It's not. There was TONS of awful, terrible, pop-sounding garbage country music in the 80s and 90s as well. You've just blocked that out, for some reason.

You have to remember that most people form an emotional bond to what they listened to in the formative years, especially when it comes to music familiar with the time that you were forming romantic relationships with people. If the 80s and 90s is what you know then even the worst of it will still resonate with you unless you really sit back and take an objective look at it. I'll look back fondly on Conway Twitty, Kenny and Dolly, even freakin' Ray Stevens, because that was the soundtrack to my happiest family memories. Some, if not a lot, of those songs were garbage.

I have zero emotional link to today's country music, except I know that this Bro Country stuff is awful to listen to and has no deep meaning. The 20 year olds who like the stuff now, will always 'like' it even though it sucks music-wise. I can't fault them for that.

I love the song Don't Know What you Got by Cinderella because I connected with it at the time, but looking back it's cheesy and sung by a guy who sounds like he just got off the operating table for throat cancer. I'm still screeching along with him when it comes on the radio, doh.

Yeah, there was plenty of cringe worthy pop country from 20 years ago. Remember the Achy Breaky A-hole and his first hit. Now we have to live with his even worse second hit (Miley the Wreckingball).

I think that is a valid point. However, I think the difference is that a lot of those terrible 80s and 90s country music songs weren't embraced as wholesale as they are today. There were a couple here and there that were terrible but people enjoyed them, but until we got around the late 90s the songs on the radio largely actually had meaning rather than just being about trying to hook up with "cow"girls, drinking beer, driving trucks, mudding, and being so "country." Now, it is rare to have the songs that have meaning and depth.

Even if you cherry pick... can you find me anything that sounds anything like George Jones from 1980 with He Stopped Loving Her Today? How about Keith Whitley and 1988 hit Don't Close Your Eyes or Willie Nelson's 1982 Always On My Mind? I cherry picked those out of the 1980s, and could probably pick out just one year and find an amazing selection of songs that will sound and be nothing like what I could get from 2004-2014.

How about how many times songs claiming the country genre today namedrop the greats of yesteryear. It's pathetic. It's like they know they're not country enough, not authentic enough, so they sing about listening to George Jones haggard, and cash to country it up.

All hat and no bull.

I hate every dumbass country song that is like a generic hokey redneck anthem like "getting drunk on a plane" or "she thinks my tractor is sexy." Its like someone from New York wrote it and thought to themselves "What do idiotic hicks like?"

Its a damn shame that stuff like Ryan Bingham isn't super famous but Miranda Lambert, FGL, and Luke Bryan is.

Keith Richards once said he based the guitar tuning played on Jumping Jack Flash off of an idea he got from one of George Jones' band members - thats how good country once was. Now, we get way too much bubble gum - Luke Bryan, ugh

Put it this way...there's no one with one shred of the country talent of a George Jones, Mel Tillis, Ray Price, George Strait.
Even those highly regarded singers like Garth Brooks and others aren't even in the same league.

Today's country reminds me of guys that wanted to be rock stars but weren't good enough.

I would enjoy picking up one of the members of Florida-Georgia Line up by the ankles and using him to beat the other guy to death. I loathe those douchebags.

I miss living in Madison County where I could listen to 100.7. Any station that plays John Conlee, Moe Bandy, and Joe Stampley more than 2 times a day is fine by me.

PTI, you either missed the point out you're just going out of your way to be an ***. My point was that there are not as many good and meaningful songs now. I can cherry pick a ton of classics from the 80s and even get a lot from one year. These songs will sound nothing like songs from the last decade. There was a lot more overall quality then compared to now. I think that's plain to see.

I agree. I just find so many of these douchebags to be very phony and not quite able to make it in the rock industry. I feel like so many of these people are using a fake twang so they're considered country. Its pop; not country.

Back in the day when music was music (70's) I had friends that listened to Christian rock. I always thought those guys sounded a lot like garage bands that just couldn't make it playing rock. IMO, today's country...in fact the last 20 years of country, for the most part, falls into that category.

Personally, I prefer the old, whiney, honky-tonk, tear in your beer type country. Todays singers just don't have it.

I know I'm just a Zac brown honk and all but I would encourage anybody to go see them live. Far and away the best concerts I've been to. Not even close. They mix in everything from George jones to Metallica at their shows. Everyone always gives me **** about my obsession with these guys, and i get it because they are a "modern" country band, but their shows are more like if the Eagles, Charlie Daniels band and widespread panic put on a show together. Just great stuff.
