On the morning of his death, John Bonham woke up, went to breakfast, and had four quadruple vodkas. He said, "That's lunch," went to practice, kept drinking, passed out after a couple hours, and choked on his own vomit.
Four quadruple vodkas...

What was super crazy is that they weren't even on tour...it was studio prep for an upcoming tour. on a documentary i watched there were several big names in rock commenting "What? Dead after a practice? Good Lord." I think everyone assumed he and Keith Moon would have gotten drunk and jumped off a hotel in LA one night, but not choked on booze due after practice. Other commentary said, of the LZ crew, he was the one who always wanted to be at home with his family...pretty sad, really.

There's a part in Song Remains the Same, I think it's Moby Dick, where Bonham is on his farm, trying to lead a cow. Friends of his say that's who he really was. When away from the drums, Bonham just wanted to farm. That and drink copious amounts of booze. He had a pub on his farm with a built in track behind the bar, so he could pull up beside the bar in one of his numerous racecars reach over, and pour his libation.
I read the same thing. He just wanted to be around his family, and hated to be on tour.
