This was in 1969, Vince Carillot's year as head coach. The game was at Skelly, and yes, I was there. TU was 1-9 that year. We almost caught up but we threw an interception on the last drive. Louisville won 35-29. I remember Louisville had a player wearing number 100, commemorating the 100th anniversary of college football.

Carillot was a disaster. Horrible hire. Makes Burns look good by comparison. However, he did sign this skinny QB from Jersey named Drew Pearson. That alone makes his one year tenure worth it.
Go back and look who Carillot signed and it’s eye popping. There’s probably good reasons for that, if you know what I mean.

The last two classes of Burns are filled with now legends. I’ve always found it interesting when people say BB couldn’t win without Graham’s players. But if you look at the dip in performance on the field and in recruiting in 2006, and the outsized role freshmen played in the early Graham years, we could at least suggest the same thing about Kragthorpe. We just don’t know because he left before it dipped.

Carillot's biggest problem was that he pissed off a bunch of Texas HS and JUCO coaches and got us put on a really tough, lengthy NCAA probation.
