nay. Because I live in Indiana and welcome all of your money :)

But seriously, if you can bet on a horse race you should be able to bet on a football game.

Its one of the very few issues I agree with Beshear on. I'm one of the young conservative voters who didn't show up for Governor election because I wasn't a fan of Bevin, and never in a million years did I expect Beshear to be as awful as he's been. He did campaign on legalizing gambling and marijuana. Both are personal choice issues to me, and I don't care that people do either.

I'm sure the marijuana issue if it ever becomes an actual ballot issue will elicit more vigorous opposition, which I can understand. But the gambling arguments, considering we have horse racing, the lottery, "historical racing slots" (the largest farce of them all)......its just time.

I also think with the coming blow back sports and other attendance based endeavors are going to see post Covid, or at the very least the push to offset resultant revenue losses we are seeing presently, that its coming and there just isn't going to be much that can be done to stop it.

We're at the point now I believe its not folks out in the country who cite religious values that are the main opposition, its the horse racing big wigs who fear losing their monopoly.

IMO they stand to make more money by getting in on the ground floor and adding other forms of gambling at Keeneland, for example. How often does the average Joe go to Keeneland outside of spring and fall meets? Do any of you go to the Red Mile? I know they have historic racing, I drive by there every day but haven't been since I was a teen when they did the big Memorial Stakes Day concerts there in the 90s.

And what about sports bars? How about some additional revenue generating for those places that have taken a big hit during all of this?

It just fels like we're way past time on this thing.

I lived in Lexington for 17 years. I went to Red Mile twice. Once was to bet on the Derby (closer to where I lived than keeneland) and once to play the slots.

I have always believed that Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia casinos have paid Kentucky anti-gambling lobbyists. Tennessee also has legalized gambling now.

The state is touched on nearly all sides by states with legalized gambling. Restrictions against gambling aren't going to save people who want to gamble, and A LOT of people want to gamble on more than horse races and ripoff slot machines that use historical races as their RNG.

In November 2020, New Jersey generated a total of 6.23 million U.S. dollars in tax from sports betting, down from the previous month's total of 7.44 million U.S. dollars.

All for it, however, the libertarian in me says anyone should be able to open for business, provided they can back it up financially. It should not be limited to a select few having licenses, like casinos or dispensaries. This is why TwinSpires will say yay and prevail. The little guy will always lose. Let KSRBar and the like partner with entities to offer it in their establishment. Free markets baby.

at a minimum treat it like the lottery. You can walk into gas stations or the grocery and buy tickets from a kiosk. Put a sports book kiosk in sports bars.

or like it is in Indiana, let people do it online. I can pull up the DraftKings app on my phone and put a bet on just about any sporting event there is.

I don’t gamble but it drives me crazy that KY citizens go across the state lines to gamble and those states get the benefits. Not KY.

I would go so far to say that this one issue is why Andy Beshear is Governor. He didn't win by that much and this is one topic that is making people mad. Had the Republicans just given up on this losing battle, Bevin might still be in office.

Anybody remember that piece of **** David Williams who was indoubtedly banging tranny hookers while claiming to be morally superior?

Anyways, that guy was a dick and I’m pretty sure he’s a judge now.

On principal the government has no authority to tell people what to do with their money. The government has tried to be the moral police over gambling for too long.

Anyway the state of Kentucky already has gambling in some forms. Horse racing, and lottery in particular, not sure if fantasy gambling is legal there but it is in most states.

State's should feel free to charge a reasonable fee for a sports book license to operate in the state but should not put a tax on wagering.

Broadly, I'll vote yes. But more specifically, i think we need to allow the historical gaming machines at horsetracks with one addition. allow Sportsbooks at hotels and horsetracks.

we've missed the boat on casino gambling. We wouldn't have much impact. We'd get some traffic on our insterestates close to tennessee, but it wouldn't be the windfall like we would have seen had we legalized it in the 90's. So i wouldn't even mess with full blown casinos. (Legislature would never go for it anyway).

However, I think we coudl convince the legislature that sports betting is an expansion of horse betting and it would be a "tourism" play more than a gambling play. I think Kentucky could be one of the top 10 sports betting destinations in the country with our horse track infrastructure that is in place.

While I admire your inclination towards compromise... the success of casinos should be a secondary question to the question of legalization.

Historic racing is the biggest joke I’ve ever seen. Derby City Downs is a casino, flat out. And it’s awful because you can only play slots based on “historic races”. Based on what convoluted logic is it ok to play slots based on results of “historic races” but not results based on a random algorithm? It’s goofy

realism on full blown casinos passing has to be taken into consideration. Baby steps...
I don’t think that’s realism and I don’t believe in taking baby steps on something we are 20 years behind on.

Why is it that only crazy ******* show up in Frankfort and get all the attention? Let’s meet in Frankfort and start a casino at the door step.

Go for it. I’d be there too. But pushing for sports betting is the only semi realistic shot we have.

I say yay based on principle but there will always be problems that accompany gambling. Average Joe Kentucky isn't exactly a mathematician.

Honestly I'd just like a really nice place to sit back, have wall to wall TVs with the games on, good food, and table top touchscreen tablet or some such where you can just deposit money and withdraw winnings easy peasy. Easy transfer the funds back onto your card. All of the other gambling options like casinos would be fun, but personally I'd just like a great sports betting full service restaurant experience.

Why? I have been against this from the start. Handing race tracks sports betting is granting them a winning lottery ticket. Why should they benefit? They have the infrastructure, most likely, to quickly convert to a sportsbook but everyone should have an opportunity.

Oh, you think you are going to be able to open up CATScratchFVR's Casina and Buffet?

Get it open, come up with some silly license that allows a few slot machines at businesses. Move on.

Isn’t horse racing gambling legal in KY or am I remembering what I read incorrectly? No reason for sports gambling to still be illegal if you can bet on horses and random lotteries.
