Well, should we?

Why? I have been against this from the start. Handing race tracks sports betting is granting them a winning lottery ticket. Why should they benefit? They have the infrastructure, most likely, to quickly convert to a sportsbook but everyone should have an opportunity.

I agree in principle. But the reality is that if we are going to get this done, you'll have to get support from rural legislators who don't want them (and the communities don't want them) in their back yard. To assure this, they'll grant the licenses for the slot machines to the tracks. Sportsbooks on the other hand, are a different story. I think the state should push to have those away from horsetracks (let horsetracks have them too). There is a huge tourism opportunity with those. Allow hotels of certain sizes (big) to have them too. We need to do everything we can to make KY a destination. This is one of the really stupid things that Tennessee did. They only allow online sports betting. No free standing sportsbooks.

I don’t gamble but it drives me crazy that KY citizens go across the state lines to gamble and those states get the benefits. Not KY.

I've been aggravated ever since they opened the casino on a boat like 20 years ago in Indiana. Imagine how much money they could have brought into Louisville if they had a nice hotel and casino on the waterfront. It could have increased tourism drastically. It would have helped with revitalizing downtown.

Now you have to drive like 30 to 40 minutes away wasting gas and give your money to another state. People that gamble are going to find a way to gamble (just like the people who bought alcohol during the prohibition or people that smoke weed) so why not keep that money local? At least we have Derby City Gaming to keep some of the money here. It's not as good as a full blown casino but it's better than nothing.

Someone should file a petition for injunction to stop all gambling in the state. Force the legislators and their Family Foundation lobby hand , that you can't deny one type of gambling over another since it's all gambling.

Hell the stock market is basically a game of chance and can be addictive.

We're at the point now I believe its not folks out in the country who cite religious values that are the main opposition, its the horse racing big wigs who fear losing their monopoly.
yep, that's my sense as well. The folks tongue-wagging about "the Bible" in this thread are making fun of 20 year old arguments. I mean, I've done no polling, so you'll just have to take my word for it I suppose.

The Thoroughbred Industry OWNS the legislature. They will always acquiesce to their demands. They are scared to death of horse industry. I don’t see it happening , no matter how much it helps the state. Jobs , revenue be damned.

The governement should not be in the business of legislating morality, period. I say this as a Christian man. Although I agree that gambling legalization is more about money than morality at this point.

Personal freedom and individual responsibility should be favored above all. I'm fine with regulations when they serve the common good (seatbelts, smoking bans, environmental regs, etc.), but people should not be told how they can and can't spend their hard-earned money as long as it does no harm to others.

Both gambling and marijuana need to be put on the ballot. Screw waiting for Frankfort to get off their collective asses. These are both issues that have very strong bipartisan support.

I never gamble but if people want to give their money away then I think they should be able to. Government should not be in the business of protecting people from themselves or legislating morality.

Abstinence is not a valid approach in these situations. So you should tax and contain it.

I am all for the legalization of all gambling. I am all for the legalization of marijuana, both medical and recreational. What I am not for is for the lawmakers and all of the groups that will not allow the people of the commonwealth to vote on either of them. I don't gamble but I smoke the hell out of pot and I am 63 years old. What I do with my money is my business and what my neighbors do with their money is their business. I can travel to CO, NV, AZ and CA and buy pot in the dispensary. I come back to KY and I have to buy it on the street. That is 100 % pure BS to me. If I did gamble, I can drive across the bridge to IN and bet on slots, cards and ball games. I come back to this backwards *** thinking state and I cant do any of that. The state wants to ***** and moan about being broke and cant fund the state's pension, yet they continue to sit and watch revenue float into other states. Don't come back at me with your religious, we are better than that BS either, that boat has already sunk. The Family Foundation and other close minded thinking idiots can kiss my ***.
