High school football gurus and gods of the Edgy Tim world.

Several years ago I was told (unreliable source) that there used to be a quiet but existing feud between the 2 masters of IL Catholic/private high school football.

It had something to do with one coach tipping off a playoff opponent of the other coach on plays, etc.

Anyone know anything about this?

I’ve spoken with Papa Seff many times over last few years but never brought up this topic.

I’m just trying to understand this. Another source at my alma mater said Frank did not have much respect for Seff or the Celtics because PCs titles were of 4A caliber, etc.

Edgy, if you think this topic is off base then please give it the hook. Thanks

Not privy to whether or not there was a feud between the two, but IF, IF, I say IF, the alleged quote about PC's championships was said, that is unfortunate. I hope everyone on here (I'm sure the coaches do) realizes how hard it is to win a state championship, regardless of the class. So many things can happen during the course of a season (an injury to a key player or players, a down game during the playoffs, an opponent getting on a roll in the post-season, etc.) that a championship for anyone (except xxx the last two years) cannot be penciled in until the championship game is played and the season completed.

Just to be sure, I checked the IHSA site and couldn't find any asterisk next to PC's championships indicating that another coach thought they deserved less respect. Guess we're just going to have to live with that.

Kindly submitted for serious consideration.

Thanks Hinter. When I first arrived on the Provi scene 10 years ago and through normal conversations with other parents and football coaches I vocalized I was a MC grad. Of course there are many other Catholic high school alum dads at PC from JCA (ouch), MC, SR, StL, etc (a reason they sent their kids to private high school BTW). We would all joke about our alma maters and even Cogs, BR grad, would joke. But I noticed over time there was a different “jab” I got for being a MC guy. This is when the comments about MC not respecting PC the same way they respect JCA surfaced. The 3 schools are 1, 2 and 3 for most titles in IL.

If no one has anything further to add on this topic then we can let a sleeping dog lie and move on
