There's no secret these two don't like each other. Uncle Frank didn't care for the same humble pie he gave two years ago to Badke. Maybe it was expired or Franks boys were put up against the ropes after that Gately loss. I'm sure he's had this one circled since that night.

Back to the between the lines assessment. Rice's defense has been exploited as of late and needs to come up with some big plays to keep Rice in the mix to repeat as Blue champs. We know MC will attack and switch up coverages defensively to. Rice has to capitalize on turnovers and win time of possession battle to ensure a W. I still haven't been convinced of Thompson's abilities of a leader and some questionable decisions may bite him on Friday. MC has to execute their game plan to perfection or Frank's hand may not be extended midfield after the final horn.

I agree. Rice definitely has to fix the problems in the secondary and also in the middle against the run. On offense they have to get the ball into Ricky Smalley's hands . He was targeted only once last night against St.Laurence and only a couple in the game before. If they execute and play disciplined I think they have a shot against MC.

Would be very surprised to see a bro hug at mid field with these two. This game could go either way depending on a turnover or two. I'm sure Rice didn't show a ton vs Larry and Smalling will be featured here. Pretty sure MC will look for the methodical, long drives to keep Rice O off the field. If this game needs to be won via the air, both secondaries beatable but think Rice O better suited for a shootout. Pickem.

As an objective observer, this is a barometer game for MC. Their defense has looked strong all year. Loyola's defense handled the Rice offense. If MC's defense is as good as billed, Rice should not put up a large amount of points.

Clearly, Rice's defense has been exploited. St. Francis put up 33, Laurence 35 in the last two weeks. If MC's offense (especially the O-line play) is improved, they should have a fair amount of success against the Rice defense.

If this game is close, MC is not deserving of their ranking, nor would I give them much of a chance in Week 9 in Wilmette against the Ramblers.

Rices defense is based on speed and being aggressive. Mc should be able to run ir right at them. The caravan can not get down early or they will be trouble. This one is a toss up right now because neither team has been impressive against a blue opponet.

BR D has obviously given up a ton of points - but with the exception of the beat down in Wilmette - it might be fair to note when they gave up those points:

BR Mich - up 42-7 half / won 56-20

Crete - up 42-7 after 3 / won 49-21

Francis - up 36-7 half / won 46-33

Laurence - up 21-0 in 1st / won 52-35

MC has a completely different offense than the above teams which are all spread. (and much better D). I don't have a feeling on this one either because MC has seen some pretty poor offenses with the exception of Marist.

I'm just hoping the kind men of the Br. Rice Fathers Club let me in the stadium. I plan on not drinking any liquid for at least 12 hours before the game. That way I'll avoid the HUGE LINE at one of the two port-a-lets.

I'll be sitting with the Athletic Director from Marist. We'll be discussing possible stadium expansion plans.

I wouldn't touch this one with a 10 foot pole. Frank and Badke. It sounds like a bad cop show. If Brother Rice plays like it did against BR(MI), they win. If they play like they did against Loyola, they lose. And badly.

I've watched MC a couple times, and they didn't impress me like in years' past. But they are still MC, and like many MC teams, they might not hit their stride until this late in the season. Personally, I hope they don't hit it until next weekend, because Rice is my team, and this year, at times, a seemingly great one. But I do like the Caravan, and a good Caravan is good for all of us. Hopefully, Rita and Providence can snap back next year (would hate to lose to either of them this year, but after the Laurence game, if Rice plays poorly, they could lose to either).

The not liking each other may stem from the fact the BR coach pulled a bush-league move and kept the MC buses from pulling in a few years back. MC responded by putting 40+ up on them in the first half. As the kid says, "He started it!"
And their stadium is a disgrace.

I always get a kick out of the Carmel fans hatred for Rice's stadium. I wonder what the Leo faithful thinks of the bleacher setup at Carey Field every year. :)

Agreed Pride. We all knew Rice's offense was going to put up big numbers. It was their D that impressed me most the first two weeks. Their all around effort made me thinking positive thoughts for early November. A couple of injuries and whamo back to reality. Let's hope for a healthy Rice w going into a "bye" week.

Maybe so but uncle Frank didn't take the high road after the game at midfield with his classless comments either. That much can be proven where as your accusation of Badke delaying buses. Maybe Frank refused because Rice didn't have a big enough red carpet for his ego.

If you talk to Dan McGrath from Leo, He'll tell you how much he loves playing at Carey Field. MC and Leo have an outstanding relationship.

Rice and Mt. Carmel should just move their game to a place like Toyota Park every year and call it a day. Rice used to move their basketball games with Leo no matter who the home team was to St. Xaiver because of the crowds so there is precedent. The Rice stadium is a complete joke when large crowds are expected and I get it is not their fault because they are land locked but really why continue to mess. It costs them money I am sure as well turning people away. Every fall this comes up about Rice's stadium and reminds me of the Bears with the discussion every year about how the field is in shambles come November. Stubbornness does not solve the problem.

I'm sure they do. Dan is a high-quality guy and so is everyone at MC. Since you couldn't read the sarcasm, maybe it's time you stop bashing an opponent's stadium when Carmel has to get on a bus to play its "home" games. I'm sure Loyola fans love the wand treatment at Gately.

We all know Uncle Frank's comment at midfield is what fueled this fire. That much we can prove but to accuse Badke of forbidding buses to enter is a crock. They may have been delayed but only because Rice couldn't locate a red carpet big enough for Uncle Frank's ego.

so what they do not own Soldier Field?? it is still a problem every year just like the Rice stadium issue is one every fall. whether its the MC game, the Rita game or an IHSA playoff game EVERY single year this comes up as an issue of how small the seating is and how people are turned away, how the portables are a joke etc. EVERY single year its the same thing. Many fans refuse to go to a game at Rice because of these issues its just not worth the hassle. But for people who's family members are playing in the game or are their to support their school it is very unfortunate.that they have no where to sit, stand in ridiculous lines or many time not even allowed in if they are not there 2 hours prior to kickoff.

Feeto,

As MC's #1 fan, do you have any thoughts on the actual game or are you just going to stick with the same tired, old comments about BR? I was hoping when you posted "Visitor stands suck!!!! That is all" -- that you actually meant it.

Actually, Rice played their games there until the 1990 season. IMO the neighborhood was worse back then. Will MC ever build their own stadium?

I have lots of thoughts on the game. I love the fact that Rice has finally put together a really good team. It makes these games so much fun. I like MC tomorrow, but who knows. The MC offense has looked much better the past few weeks, BUT they haven't played very good teams. MC is 4 deep at running back, and they're all outstanding. The question is the O/line, and they are small. The Rice offense is great, and they score every way possible. Countering that will be the MC defense, once again one of the best in the state. Frank will slow down the game and keep the Rice O off the field. I like MC 28 - 21. As too the Rice stands........don't you get it yet? This is supposed to be FUN. IT'S FUN TO MAKE FUN OF EACH OTHER. Lighten up and enjoy what should be a great game.

P.S. Rice visitors stands are horrible.

The home side is great. The tent area behind the north end zone for alums is a fun time. The berm in south end zone for grade school kids with the Talley's Corner houses in background is a unique feature. At big games, you get that feeling you're surrounded by all of Evergreen Park and Mount Greenwood with people standing around the fencing off the track. The action between the hedges is more than worth the price of admission.

Sorry - haven't made it over to the visitors' side. Wouldn't know anything about it.

Feeto's weekly upset picks are usually well thought out and create some lively discussion on this board.

Whatever credibility he creates here, however, goes out the window with his immature and worn-out shots at Brother Rice and its stadium.

These comments are neither creative nor clever; rather they're the sort of thing you'd expect from twelve year old boys. Plus, they're repeated over and over and over. Worst of all, they reflect very poorly on Mt. Carmel alumni.

It's not "fun to make fun of each other." Not when you're an adult.

Stick to your upsets.

Definitely a barometer game. I expect it to be close though Heck look at the talent disparity in '13 and it was close (MC 28-20).I'll take a 1 point win.when MC gets good it is usually around this time.as far as loyola I just think they are at another level like HF.

In re-reading my initial post, that may have been a bit harsh. This is a rivalry game. I would expect a close, hard fought battle as well. I see it's the Comcast 100 GOTW. Should be a good one.

Rice even had a lead on MC in '12 at that half.and that was best MC since 98 so Badke has done well.also beating MC last year at Gately. Def coming down to 4th Q. With Rita and PC missing playoffs this year this game has an extra fervor

This is a good development - maybe the Augustinians are 1 division, MC and BR are another division and LA is a 3rd division if Blue is broken up.
