The last thing we need is another head coach in his mid-60s whose career is in decline.
Agreed. I just like to remind people that Johnson is 60 and hasn't won much of anything.
And he doesn't light it up on the recruiting side, either. His past 4 classes (including 2017) have averaged 49th on Rivals, and he's right down in the hotbed area of talent. Plus, he's grumpier than a troll.
In my years in ministry I learned that you will NEVER ever please everybody.
Someone will always shoot down the ideas of others. Guys like Les Miles, Scott Frost, Gary Patterson...dare I say even Mike Riley can have success here.
How about we cheer for THIS team and THIS coach to win out (a la Penn St. last year)!

If one wanted to run the option, you would be wise to hire the coaches at Navy and Army before Paul Johnson. Won't happen here, though. Can you imagine how ugly that transition would be? All of our current QBs would transfer so they'd have to bring a true freshman or convert someone to QB. It would be a nightmare.
I just want a coach who is innovative on offense, no matter what system he runs - Brohm at Purdue I think is the best offensive mind in the game today. But I doubt he would leave for another job in the same conference after one year.

I love Brohm and his offense and I am certain he would leave Purdue for Nebraska tomorrow.
Les Miles? Jesus lets head over to the retired coach old folks home and see who else is up for the task. Lou Holtz is young for his age and might be ready for another go. Bill Parcells could be enticed if you include a sideline golf cart. The 'ole coach Steve Spurrier is restless and actually enjoys long walks in the cold. You want a spread offense? Well Bill Walsh is available and he invented the west coast offense. Remember those wide open offenses at Wyoming and Purdue? Hey, Joe Tiller is doing much better since he started eating his oatmeal. The nice thing is, these guys have morning coffee together down in the rec room. Hire one, you get the rest of them as assistants.

Les never seemed to develop his QBs at LSU. Or maybe he didn't recruit very good kids for the position. And his end of game clock management was horrendous. I mean really awful.
Why are you certain he would leave Purdue for Nebraska? Purdue BOT, AD, and President are on record as saying they will do whatever it takes to make Purdue football relevant again. Should be sellout for Purdue-Michigan game today so revenue is flowing in again (after a long hiatus). Purdue has long history of "Cradle of QB's" tradition that fits Brohm Offensive attack perfectly.
Some option yes...Frank no...too old...he is 73 and one of his issues was he insisted on being the OC...he had Tom's playbook but he definitley was no Tom.
I don't think he's that dumb. He'd leave Purdue in a second, but I highly doubt for Nebraska
