Ok, I’m stoked to beat UL. Forever and always. I’m not trying to be a drag. But a pattern has emerged. We are nowhere near physical enough and we don’t sell out for lose balls and rebounds. This is a big issue. It’s with all our guys too. Garrison buddy that was shameful to let that UL kid slide under you to grab that ball. We tap rebounds around instead of grabbing them. We don’t shoot in to block out with force. We try to dribble loose balls and frankly we just stand and watch too much when there’s a ball to be had. I’ll say too that we hunt for fouls in the paint instead of finishing strong and trying to score.

The SEC slate will not allow this to continue.

I don’t normally see eye to eye with Rockfly, but he’s absolutely correct.

Almost every single loose ball went to Louisville last night. Hell, Amari didn’t play the entire 2nd half because he wasn’t putting in the effort and it was obvious. So Pope saw it too.

It’s ok to point something out that needs work. If they fix it who knows what they can accomplish.

1. We have three solid players in Butler , Oweh and Carr…
2. Jaxon and Berea are good to average..I probably should push Berea to first list but his defense is so so. Jaxon is so up and down for a super senior
3. The bigs are hit and miss. Amari Williams is limited on offense..which is fine. But he isn’t near the defensive force I was expecting. Garrison is like a baby horse out there…full of burst and energy..but has zero skill
4. Travis Perry is really bad. ..on both ends of floor..we’ll miss Kerissa. Have no idea where Chandler is at

All in all . Great job by Pope running this ship to this record. Now we’ll get to see what kind of coach pope at improving player from beginning to end of a season…Pitino was especially good at this and Cal wasn’t bad at improving a kid from start to end…I hope Pope can get rotation minutes from chandler or Perry…we have to get another guy to play
This .

Doesn't change that I'm ecstatic about what Coach Pope has been able to do in year 1.....but. This is the 6th game in a row the opponent has played harder than us minus the 2nd half/OT against Gonzaga. UL played so much harder than we did. The combination of being at home, Butler going off and having more talent got us the W tonight but that isn't going to be the case many times in the league. Watching the SEC I see a bunch of the top teams that go really hard and probably have more talent than we do. That is not a recipe for success in the SEC this year. Besides Butler and Oweh nobody else is stepping up consistently in the out-effort your opponent department. Robinson kind of wilts in these high energy games. He floats as does Brea. You need quick twitch against top level athletes AND superior effort. Our guys need to ramp it up over this next 2 week period with only 2 games before league play. We can be a very good team but going against this gauntlet we're going to have to do it by effort and coaching. I'm hoping CMP can get that out of this group. Funsies are about over. It's about to get very tough to win games.
I thought Louisville played very good today. They were not efficient from three coming into the game and shot it pretty good. I don't think we are national championship good, but doing much better than expected. The SEC will be very tough this year. Getting a road win will be a miracle against a lot of teams. Pope is doing a great job, but will need to bring in a few dogs to be good enough to win a title .

We have a lot of work ahead of us. The effort plays haven’t been there the last 2 games. Waterman was flying all over the court grabbing offensive boards (no wonder Pope recruited him) and our guys were just watching. Cardinals were getting wide open shots and our guys just didn’t seem interested in fighting on defense. We’ve got to get there mentally before we can get there physically.
Good points

OP ain't wrong. I have yet to see this team play a full game. The seem to take plays off and they play down to their opponent, or what they perceive to be their opponent's prestige level. Yes, they pull it together in the second half, but that won't always cut it in the SEC where you are everyone's super bowl.

I'm sure many here remember the Comeback Cats. It is possible to play that way but that was the exception of my 40+ years of watching UK, and not the rule.

Well I will say this, if Hepburn decides to go to the portal I hope Pope grabs him right away. Quick, fast can shoot and play defense. Would be exactly what we need next year. Fine player.

Tell me you don’t know ball without telling me you don’t know ball
I do know this we are 10 and 1 and sure our weak side rebounding needs to get better , but why not just enjoy the win and stop bitching ,nick picking and moaning after a big win . Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride . Larry from Lebanon ,590 am caller, yesterday was already talking about, who was going to be here and not be here next year. My god we have not even started conference play

We have an imperfect team. We're going to learn something about ourselves when league play starts. It's hard to dominate every aspect of the game at all times. The key is to survive and advance.

This team reminds me a bit of 2011 with Knight and Jorts. We might take some lumps but we might also go deep into the tourney if we get hot.

Exactly we have a team that can win 6 straight games and last time I checked that will hang one go cats

We are seeing a very flawed team, being brought together by great coaching. I tempered my expectations this year, knowing Pope had to build this roster, with who he could get...

But in the same hand, I think we are starting to see a bit of a breakthrough on the offensive end. We are starting to see the back cuts, the multiple zoom actions at the top.. And being less focused on just throwing up 3s. I am hoping.... That we have been focusing on the offensive end, and soon, the defense will come around... With the Christmas break coming... I hope we see a old version of a Camp Cal type jump, in what the team can actually do.

I’m plenty happy hoss. I also enjoy talking about the game and the team. Beating UL is amazing but the goal is much bigger. In order to reach that goal we will need to clean some stuff up. Pretty good discussion going on in here actually. You chose to be triggered. There are plenty of circle jerk threads you can hang out in

The SEC has to play us also…. Nothing is an easy route.

We are pretty solid on offense I would like to see all 3 bigs get better finishing with jump hooks on back to basket post up opportunities

Our worst free throws shooters get fouled the most Butler Williams Oweh

Defense is our Achilles heel - we lack quickness at a few spots - hopefully Pope keeps mixing it up like the Zag game

We have a few players that can get lackadaisical at times even simple tasks like throwing the ball inbounds they can’t put out the effort to give Butler a good pass

Maybe I missed it but thought we would change our defense a few times yday but don't remember seeing it- seems we played man-to-man the whole game- didn't see any zone just to mix it up and give Lville a different look- they set a high ball screen on us a million times and their shooters were wide open it seemed a lot- still a really good win

It’s true we do get pushed around inside a lot. Also we don’t dive for 100% of loose balls. Love the team but we will have to play with high intensity each night in the Sec to win at a high rate. It all seems very fixable.

I am ecstatic, never thought this team would contend for a title this year, now I do. We have flaws but I don't think effort is one of them. Our lack of quickness at several spots is perhaps our greatest weakness, which shows up most noticeably on defense. We also are not nearly as good 3 point shooting team as it first appeared, each game has driven our average down. With all that said our rebounding has improved and we have won some tough games late, something Cals teams hadn't done for several years. I feel this team needs to get Carr more involved on offensive end in conference play . I think Pope has allayed the fears of MOST of the group in our fan base that feared he was not up to the task,he obviously is. The only thing yet to be determined is how he handles the pressure after he has lost a few and the sniping starts in earnest from some of our more perfectionist of fans,of which there are many

Agree 100 %. The finesses play and shot selection will get us against physical SEC teams. Rebounding has been an issue ALL year. I love the team, but only the blue tinted glass wearing fans will act like there are no issues with this team. Louisville was short handed, but their 2 best players straight worked our defense. No answer for Hepburn and Edwards. No way Louisville should have been within 3 late. We play too soft for my liking, and here is another opinion of mine that will ruffle feathers of the "everything is perfect" fans, Travis Perry should not be on the floor in close games, he is just NOT ready. Free throws will eventually do us in when in a close game, mark it down.
