Flying under the radar of everyone is the Gates County Red Barons. They go on the road tonight to face the Pamlico County Hurricanes. I couldn't find much on Pamlico other than what I read on Maxpreps. I see they have one loss and it was to Tarboro. They have a couple of common opponents in Southside and South Creek. They both handily beat Southside while it looks like Pamlico won in a close one to South Creek whereas Gates County blew them out. Gates County has a couple of losses, one to Edenton and the other to Bertie. I witnessed the Bertie game and that's one that Gates should've easily won. Not sure what happened but Gates just came out flat and got behind and could never recover. They ended up losing by a point I believe. Gates has a really good Sr qb who is very dangerous. They have a rb in Crandle that is strong as an ox and loves contact. They have a 6'2 jr te in Kalab Logan who is playing lights out right now. The kid is having a breakout yr and is going to be a star next yr. They also have who I consider the best kicker in NC regardless of classification. The kids name is Caleb Brickhouse and he's a 6'1 Jr who can split the uprights from 50 plus. This kid just needs to get noticed, he's the real deal. This is going to be a great game and I believe the winner will go on to represent the East.

Gates County also beat Hertford County who is playing Ledford tonight in the 3rd rd of the 2aa state playoffs.

What's cool is we'll see a new face out of the east this year in the state title game regardless. I know Rosewood played in a title game, but it was a long time ago. For Northampton, Gates and Pamlico it would all be their first time I believe.

I think your correct. How great is that gonna be. I want to go to this game bad but Kinston is coming to town to play Northeastern. No way I can miss that.

I think Gates County wins by a touchdown or two. Pamlico seems to be a little overrated after letting South Creek play them down to the wire. Plus Gates has the best nickname out east with the Red Barons. What’s not to like?

I like that this forum is finally getting some east talk! Not knowing much about those teams makes for a lot more reading than just us mountain boys jabbing at each other all the time.

Should be a good game. Going with pamlico but wouldn’t be shocked to see Gates pull it out. When we (Tarboro) went to pamlico, I came away I’m pressed with some of their athletes. They like edenton, had great fan support as well

I think it's going to be a great game and I hate that I can't go. I think it can go either way.

Yea, you have an important one this week too. To be honest I think you guys handle kinston easily, but I thought Clinton would too.

I agree, Ive been trying to downplay how confident I am going into tonight's game. Our Eagles will be ready and coach had them all read the newspaper article about our loss to them in 2015.

Dominating performance by Pamlico. They outrushed Gates on the ground, 405-86. It was 33-7 at half before Pamlico hit the cruise control button the last 24 minutes. That sophomore RB for Pamlico is a beast.

Perfect example of not reading too much into scores. A handful of key players did not play against South Creek. Pamlico did a good job of making sure their players were healthy for the playoffs. Against Tarboro when it was realized Tarboro was better by a lot, Pamlico did not put their main guys in jeapordy after the first few series. They had the eyes on 2018 playoffs since the loss to North Duplin last year.

For what it's worth, and in case nobody pointed this out yet, let me throw out there that for Gates Co. this year, in both the 2nd Rd (South Creek) and the 3rd Rd (Pamlico Co.), their opponent's head coach were Gates Co. HS alumni from the early 2000s in Will Harrell at South Creek (son of long time Gates Co. HC Clark Harrell (1994-2006; Will was a starting offensive linemen), and Torrey Nowell at Pamlico (who was also a starting offensive lineman)

Yes, he was the head coach at Gates Co. HS when I was there; I was one of his stat guys for a couple of years, took his weight lifting class with a bunch of the football players at the time....before he was at Gates Co., I believe he had been at Sun Valley, Columbia, Bartlett Yancey, North Brunswick, Beddingfield, and maybe Ayden-Grifton, and maybe somewhere else......and since has been at Kempsville (VA), Franklinton, Smithfield (VA), New Kent Co. (VA), and Riverbend (VA)
