I support BJ just as much as hiring a Furman coach just because he's a head coach. I'm a huge WBB fan and Dawn Staley was a great player like BJ..She's been pretty successful. I was spoiled when I was a student here in the early 70's to cheer in person for the teams of the great Frank McGuire. I think given time BJ could build a program to be proud of.

Not all great players make great coaches. But some do.

Just because he played here doesn’t make him the best fit for the program. Needs to go to a mid major and gain some experience. If he had not played here most would say, “who the heck is BJ?”
What other major program is considering BJ McKie for their Head Coach position? That should say a lot. I’m with you.

BJ was a great player for My Carolina. I loved watching him do some great things. However, we need someone other than a former player to head up our program. He is an assistant for a guy who has turned Wake around but that does not mean he is the guy. I have no clue who we will get but patience is needed. While I am at it, get off Tanner's back.

Whether or not he's a former player has nothing to do with his ability to coach. And that is what I hope the search people are focusing on.

Meh. What is everyone's obsession with all our staff members in all our sports have to be former players here?
Genuine Pride for our School. I am not suggesting Our Coaches have to be USC Alumni. However, Next to God Almighty, My Wife, I am Always Proud of Attending and Graduating From University of South Carolina. I consider us a Family. In Most Cases and About All Cases I almost Automatically Connect With former South Carolina Students and Alumni.:cool::love::love:

All other things being equal, I can see why the hiring authorities might prefer an alumnus/alumna.

Before I'd do this, I'd try the dude from St. Peters. At least he has a few years under his belt as a head coach, and he could recruit the New York area, seeing as how he is from there.

Then all other things aren't equal....

The exact same number apparently that are pursuing the only other candidate available, Lamont Paris.

I said in post 1....go get BJ.

That’s because we’re the only ones left hiring. This is about our failure, not about who was the best candidate for the job. If you mean this job sucked and our admin was incapable of hiring a decent coach, your first post makes sense.

There is a reason people are pissed at Tanner…yet another debacle.

If Paris and BJ are the only two choices at this stage, why not give BJ a chance? He may be able to pull in some of the SC talent that has been going out of state.
