I've posted it before, as a long time Boston Red Sox fan, this fan base has so many similarities to Pre-2004 Sox fans. The Red Sox didn't just always lose, they found a way to convince you they weren't going to lose this time, this time was different, then they'd wrench your heart out.
2003 was an absolute gut punch

2004 going down 3-0 to the Yanks was an act of mercy, I know Sox fans who were happy about it, at least we wouldn't have to suffer in 2004.

Then Millar walked against Mariano the great, Roberts pinch ran for him. of course Robers was going to steal, everyone in the ball park knew it, he'd probably stumble and Posada would throw him out by a yard. Except he didn't and that close call that ALWAYS went the Yanks way, ALWAYS went against the Sox. the Ump got it right SAFE! Dave Roberts stole second!

The rest is history. (I never get tired of typing words about this).
Anyhow - Rutgers Hoops needs that Dave Roberts moment, and I can feel it's coming soon.

We could win all 5, lose all 5 and everything in between. The unknown, the anticipation, the angst, its the beauty of sports and why we all love following our teams..
That's why I never get too high or low about this stuff. It's entertainment for us fans.

Would be different if we had no shot to win. But that's not the case here. The team has been struggling to adapt to Mag being out. But that could change at any moment, between games or even in the midst of a game. And the team is good - it just needs to put things together again.

Maybe it'll happen or maybe it won't. But that's why we watch. To see real drama unfold. Which beats the hell out of the manufactured drama in most TV shows or movies.

Of course it's possible we only win 1 or 2 games the rest of the season. Your problem is acting like it's a mortal lock and there is zero hope for anything better

That's an emotional response, not a rational one
Given the Mag injury and how horribly this team has played ever since, I think predicting 1 win is perfectly rational. I've actually seen more irrational posts from fans on the opposite side of the spectrum who completely overrate this team. We simply can't score right now and have clearly not figured out how to replace Mag on either side of the ball. At this point I just hope we steal a few games and sneak into the tournament.

Shouldn't a fan(atic) point out we are 1 game out of a tie for third place and right in the hunt for the double bye in the Big Ten Tournament. And we still have the (on paper) best remaining schedule of the contenders. Our away games are Wisconsin, Penn State, and Minnesota. Home for Michigan and current second place Northwestern.
Yes, going from 8-4 to 8-7 sucks. But the Chicken Littles on this board are ridiculous.
Also, if tie breakers become involved in seed position we have wins over Northwestern, Maryland, Michigan State and Indiana. Iowa at 0-2 could hurt. Michigan next week.
Need to win at Wisconsin to be 9-7.
Illinois at Indiana Saturday so one will pick up their 7th loss.
Michigan State 8-6 at Michigan 8-7. If the Wolverines win both will be in the 7 conference loss club.
If Sparty wins they stay ahead of us but Michigan drops behind.
Sunday sees Iowa 9-6 at Northwestern 10-5. Either result can be positive but might not know until end of season. Nebraska hosts Maryland 9-6.
Purdue still hosts Indiana and Illinois. Have Ohio State at home Sunday. Visit Wisconsin.
I have watched so many more Big Ten games that do not have Rutgers on the court, as this logjam means every game can alter the positions of so many teams.
Did anyone see Northwestern going from 6-5 to 10-5?
There have been so many games decided by one and two possessions.

In my opinion, some of you guys are leaning on the Mag injury too much. I doubt many of you expected to win those two road games against top B1G teams with or without Mag. Vegas wouldn't have expected it. And the Nebraska game didn't go that way simply because of the loss of one player. The problems which caused that mis-step have been discussed thoroughly.

I think your coach is talented, and will get the team re-motivated to get back to where they were (ie, far more than one more win on the way for you.)

We played horribly only against Nebraska.

The seesaw of this fan base is wild. Stuff happens, good and bad, and then more things happen after that good and bad.

I am assuming you have a practice report from the week and saw how the kids responded? How their meetings went? Have good conversations with the captains?
Our bad fans are really the worst. Embarrassing. Really. Same nitwits that said we were done last year as well.

"Bad fans" personally attack players and call for the coach to be fired during slumps. I haven't seen much of that here; only accurately pointing out that the team has not figured out how to compensate for Mag's injury on either side of the ball and can't generate much of anything on offense because of poor shooting. All of that is completely fair. I don't think anyone around here (including me) has lost confidence in Pikiell or the program in the long-term. We just need a few guys who can consistently put the ball in the basket.
We played horribly only against Nebraska.
The second half against Illinois was also horrible. Like really, really bad.

What a disappointment. Hard to believe that the loss of a single player could turn a team to garbage like this.

Ever since the Pikiell contract extension we've been an utter disgrace.

We will win one or two more games tops and we will be lucky to get an NIT bid.

I'm in mourning
Has nothing to do with his contract extension, it has EVERYTHING to do with Mags injury .

you are forgetting one thing ….we are a different team now. You are thinking we are exactly the same team we were before the Mag injury and your logic would be spot on . But we don’t know what we have here other than a team in turmoil and out of sorts Which has looked horrible in the last 3 games.

I said this after the Illinois game. Everyone said nope, we gonna go 6-0, or 5-1 at worst. Only me and like one other poster were concerned about not making the Tourney. Now reality starts setting in for the masses.
My prediction was 3-3 .. then 0-2 in tourneys to finish 19-14.

This. Never understood why people speak so definitively in sports. Good or bad. This is a team that can win any game or lose any game just like you said.

Except they didnt play horribly in the first two games he was out. They played relatively close games against good teams on the road. They werent great games, but they were in line with the rest of our play except our very best games (Purdue, Northwestern, the blowouts against Minny, PSU, etc)

The board is convinced mag going down is the root of all the teams issues. They refuse to remember that we kicked mich states *** without him in the second half or that he played both times iowa wrecked us.

The thread title, THAT YOU CREATED, says “one more win tops”.

You have a lot of nerve accusing people of not being able to read after that embarrassment of a post. Not being able to read your post would be a life improvement

So one more win tops means no wins the rest of the way. lmfao ok.

See if you can follow along.

You posted the thread before today’s game. We won today. That’s ONE win. So to get to ONE WIN TOPS we would need ZERO ADDITIONAL WINS

Do you get it or do you want someone to draw you a picture or something?
