We'd be taking a big gamble here but I have a gut feeling this is the man for the job. His age will help him relate to the players and potential recruits and his playing days suggest his has the right attitude for the job.

I know a lot of Sooner fans want a guy that could double as a co-coordinator with the lack of faith in Mike, but I think we just need to focus on getting a guy that can recruit and get our defensive lineman to give 100% on every snap.

Bring an DC expert on board that runs the 3-4.

From the looks of it Mike Stoops wasn't an expert at it.

It appears to me that Stoops is in on some good coaches to replace Montgomery.
I believe when the scenario plays out, OU will have a first rate coach and recruiter joining the staff...the sooner the better.

Let's hope Bob can make another great hire. Stoops has made a couple of solid hires in Monty and Bedenbaugh in recent years. I know it sucks having to replace coaches that leave for other opportunities, but I've always believed if your staff is always getting picked apart from year to year, then you must have some great coaches for others to want them, and that means the head coach is doing it right. In recent years, OU really hadn't had much staff turnover by other programs sniping at Bob's staff. The only rollover I can think of in the last 4-5 years has been firings. When your staff isn't getting lured away for opportunities to further their coaching careers then I think that speaks volumes to Bob's staff the last 4-5 years. And compared to 3-4 years ago, only Cale Gundy remains while the rest of Bob's staff has been a total makeover.

By all means, let's take a huge gamble on a DL coach when there are plenty of good and proven DL coaches who can also recruit.

This is the mentality that got Bob Stoops in this current mess. Think Bruce Kittle here. Calvin was a good player for OU and he may be a good coach and recruiter. However, Bob needs someone who is proven and who can both recruit and coach.

Roy I just don't see any of these guys as "homerun" hires and I think its worth gambling on a guy who is young, energetic, knows the the program and has ties to Oklahoma and Texas (he's from Houston). We need a coach who can relate to the players.

Just my 2 cents.

Thinks like Nick Saban.

Stop gambling with hires and get proven coaches in their schemes.

We need someone who has a proven track record, not another Josh Heupel experiment.

This please. OU lost 5 games last year. We need experienced Coaches. No time for experimenting.

Just curious what brings you to this conclusion?

Yes, Mike, we can do this!

or

No, Mike, that won't work.

Which one do you think will last the longest?

Not sure what you mean. Would truly like to know, if you know something I don't it would be nice to hear it.

OU just started interviewing candidates, CT was a good OU player but has the least amount of experience, being a former Sooner buys some cred, but sure doesn't mean he'll be the difference maker OU needs for coaching and recruiting.

Bring in the most experienced with previous DC experience and pay him to come to OU. CT might be a sentimental favorite for the homers but he's not the best candidate on the list. Brik Haley would be a home run, Unfortunately the presence of Mike Stoops will preclude hiring anyone of Haley's success, experience, and recruiting expertise.
