I think it's MC at the top and the rest all bunched up.

Hearing rumors SF and Marmion will play twice because of forfeits, would be interesting.

Thoughts?

I would have been hot on DeLaSalle this year, if not for a transfer out, which will hurt. 3-6 for the Meteor.

StF will be good but young, expecting a 5-4 campaign out of Sparty.

Marmion will be solid as usual, big, punishing. Expecting a good run from them this year, 6-3.

Fenwick is also young, so this will be the year of the junior in the Green. 6-3

Montini in the door at 5-4 or 6-3.

2016 will be a great year for all teams in the Green, no question.

I thought I heard Marmion had a transfer out and a few injuries over the summer that were season enders...

I knew about a transfer, but haven't heard about injuries. Could amend to 5-4 or 4-5.

From a Aurora Beacon article in late July...
- Transfer to "Brook
- WR torn ACL
- RB/LB not playing FB
- RB/LB torn hammy
Ouch, that is some attrition already.

If you want someone to watch this season, keep an eye on De La Salle WR Eric Rooks. Had an excellent season on varsity as a sophomore. The Meteors will be able to throw the ball and if they can run it, they have a good chance to be a pleasant surprise. Tom Duddleston started at QB last season and threw it very well. That experience assuredly will help. If the defense is better than last year, the Meteors can sneak into the state playoffs. Six home games at 35th and the Green Line "L" tracks can also help :)

Siu,

I heard SF is playing Marmion 2 times this year because both teams has forfeits. SF had 2 forfeits from Hales and another CPS school bailed. I was told the other day from a pretty good source Simeon backed out of the week 2 game against SF and we dont have a week 2 game anymore.

IF SF gets a qb on track and the run game comes along I think we can go 5-4. I just dont want to take a forfeit and not get playoff points. I heard a rumor about some team that wnats to play us in week 2 but won't say now.

Heard all the same info. A forefit would really suck for the kids. You only get a limited number of guaranteed games in HS FB and every one is precious.

mchsalumni,

Not so sure on us going 5-4 but I say you guys go 6-3. I think SF and Montini will have brand new qbs going into the season. it won't be easy for either team. You guys have that stud running back Walker that will really help.

I agree on Fenwick but I aslo think Marmion won't be as good as last year. Marmion has to play us then Providence then us again. Providence wont be as good but they will be good enough to beat Marmion. Even if we split against Marmion I'm, ok with this. I like getting marmion a second time AFTER they play Providence because they will have some bumps and bruises and so will we because we play Rice at Rice the week before.

I would like it way less if Marmion was playing a weakling between the two games.

obviously i'm incredibly biased as a former catholic leaguer, but it is sad seeing old catholic league powerhouses like DLS, Leo, and St. Laurence falling on hard times. Mt. Carmel, Loyola, and Providence are probably immune from the decline, but SR and Brother Rice are really at a cross-roads in terms of whether they can continue to compete against MC/Loyola or whether they will fall into the "second" division with St. Laurence and DeLaSalle.

Montini has strengths but they also have weaknesses. They had two big transfers to Waubonsie (one a huge very talented lineman and the other was a young stud playmaker) but got a big one from Glenbard South. Team will be fast but will they have the great play from the lineman like recent years?

The only thing I don't like about 6A is they don't have true seedings which may force Montini and St. Francis to bump heads early in the 6A playoffs if they both make it. SHG again playing in the south bracket will get a easy run to the finals. Wish 6A had true seedings like 7A and 8A.

How many playoff qualifers do we forecast south of say I80? Will SHG potentially be in the south with JCA? Or asked another way; Where do we see the line drawn to get to 16 6a qualifiers? Does it change much for who SHG may have to get through to make it to NIU?

Edit: I shouldn't post before 9am... Obviously used to having JCA in the playoffs. They are 5a not 6a! Doh. I, like Edgy has indicated, fully expected ESL in 7a otherwise they are a major southern bracket contender.

All... NLP stands a good chance in going 6A and if they do will be in the southern bracket. ESL hasn't petitioned up, and if the Flyers don't will be in the south. I guess they will be an "easy" win for the Broncos when Montini plays them in week two. Ratsy

NLP will be the favorite to win 6A. Surprised you said they may be in the south bracket?? I assumed East St. Louis to be in 7A. If in 6A that places another great team in the south. I still rather see true seedings in 6A.

All.... Having 16 true "southern" 6A enrollment schools qualify and make it into post-season play would be quite unusual for a couple of reasons. One there is not an abundance of those schools and two many of those don't make the playoffs that often. There will be some northern area teams that drop down into the south bracket when the 256 qualifiers are announced. If I recall correctly a few years ago a 6A enrollment NLP team was put in which would be considered the most southern quad before eventually being defeated by East St. Louis. Ratsy
