Since OU handled business today I think we can discuss some non sports topics now.

The Martian - Not a bad flick but definitely not as good as the hype. The odds of survival in this guy's situation would be almost nil but he solves problems easier than we could find our car keys. Worth a watch regardless but don't go in expecting greatness.

American Ultra - Don't avoid this one because of the stoner theme. It's a unique take on government trained Jason Bourne genre. Jesse Eisenberg is one of the better actors out there right now and Kristen Stewart is tolerable outside of the Twilight crap.

Anybody got any recommendations for new releases to DVD?

It's not a new release, but the story behind it I always thought was pretty cool. A new Warden shows up as an inmate to see what's really going on and how corrupt the guards are. Guards running scams. Guards making money with bringing in contraband. Guards stealing. BC figured you may like it since didn't you work in corrections before? Though I know you said you are in a new line of work these days. This movie may remind you of your corrections days.

The first was okay but the second was awful, ruining what little the first did offer.

Never heard of it but I do like the cast. I'll have to give it a watch, though I don't know where I'll find it. Sounds better than The Shawshank Redemption, which was a good, but imo, highly overrated movie.

A much slower pace. I read about it online in several places and they said it wasn't based on any known true story. But it came from the days when a warden was kind of like a concentration camp comandante. Redford and Jane Alexander show us the view of the left. But the hero is the substitute warden, rather than the prisoner who never loses hope, like Shawshank.

Same sort of ending for the bad guy prison guards.

Literally...proceed with caution if you wanna watch this film. Everyone has that movie they claim is the most effed up movie they have ever had the misfortune to watch. This one takes the cake for me, and no other movie I have ever seen is even remotely close.

Ya it's one of those movies I can't help but think there were people who actually thought it was a good idea to film something like that. Or that someone actually found it normal to think of that kind of story to write into a script. First time I tried to watch it I turned it off. Later on got talked into watching the rest of it and had to keep telling myself "it's just a movie" and finished it just to see how it ended. Most effed up sheet ever!!!!

I'm a movie bluff and pride myself on movie trivia from the 60's - early 90's.....but have become tired of Hollywood. I haven't been to a theatre in years. I reply on movies I've seen from years back and an occasional On Demand movie that sounds like something I would enjoy. I like all kinds of movies even those that haven't received high marks like Funny Games. I really enjoy that flick but many find it too disturbing. I found it a story that could actually happen in today's effed up world. Naomi Watts is one of my favorite actresses so that may have something to do with it.

I agree and Kirk directed the movie. My favorite was Dern to Douglas "that's why I'm a theft and you're a liar". My favorite Bruce Dern character was the scummy cattle rustler he played in The Cowboys, which was also one of my favorite John Wayne movies.

How much does it cost to buy DVD's from Amazon? I've had it with some of the Dish channels, they keep playing the same movies over and over. How many times can you watch reruns of Die Hard?

Very rarely do I pay over $5.00. But, there is a $3.95 shipping charge unless you buy a large order straight from Amazon, which I never do. I often pay 1 cent plus $3.95 shipping.

As an example, I have been wanting to buy a copy of Made for Each Other (Carole Lombard, Jimmy Stewart). So, I type in DVD Made for Each Other. I get a lot of options. I pick the version that I want, and look for more buying options. Clicking that brings up that I can buy it for $3.95 new from Amazon, or a very good used copy from another distributor for $0.01. I'll buy the used copy.

Some cost a lot, if they are not in production any longer. But, I usually don't go over about $15 no matter how much I want it. I want some that simply are not available any more, like the Loretta Young version of The Farmer's Daughter. But, there are a lot under $10.

Sometimes, more recent movies may still be owned by Hallmark or Lifetime Movies, and you have to go to their sites and pay their prices.

I watched Double Indemnity again last week along with one the best Bogart movies, IMO, The Caine Mutiny with MacMurray and Van Johnson. I've watched so many of the movies you listed on TCM. I'm in my 40s. But when I was a kid one of my favorite cartoons was Star Blazers. Anyone else here remember that cartoon as a kid?? Of course I didn't know as a kid, but it was a Japanese cartoon brought over to the states. Well a few years ago I caught wind they had made a modern movie on the cartoon. I looked it up and it's actually pretty good. I had to download it by BitTorrent. You can prolly find it on YouTube nowadays. Brought back memories from when I was a kiddo. Lol

I have had three problems:
1. Ordered DVD for Daddy Long Legs. Got book. Sent an email. They shipped out a DVD that day, and let me keep the book.
2. Ordered Arabesque. Got Designing Woman. Sent Email. They sent me Arabesque that day and let me keep Designing Woman.
3. Got a copy of Rhapsody in Blue that had a glitch and stopped after an hour. Emailed them. They sent out a copy that day.

In other words, they have stood behind their mistakes.

I believe I've seen the chronological version once and agree wholeheartedly about not needing the 3rd. I love Pacino's work for the most part as well as Clint Eastwood's plus all those movies from the 1940's & earlier.

'The Longest Yard' with Burt Reynolds was ten times better than the Adam Sandler version.

I dare anyone to remake "Gone with the Wind". they would be laughed off the planet.......
