Went to a recruiting visit this past weekend over the border, about 10-12 kids (I'd say 7-8 were Illinois kids from (Plainfield, Brother Rice, Marist, Bolingbrook, Oswego and Effingham). What's eye-opening is when you are in a meeting with the position coach with only one other player and the coach looks at one (from Ohio) and says looking forward to seeing you play over the next few weeks and then looks at the other and says do what you can to stay in shape and get stronger. Then ends the meeting with We don't offer until November and we are likely only taking 1-2 at your position. Just a reality of the situation Illinois kids are in right now.

Huh! I brought up this possibility a couple of months ago and was told " No that won't happen as virtually all the scholarships for 2021 were allready given out based on previous years performance and that basicaly, senior year does not count".
Certainly wasn’t me that argued that

At I-A level, thats most true, but lots open at FCS, D-2 level as coaches look for top players who fall through cracks. This is likely where illinois kids will suffer the most.

I was at the Chicago rally and salute the effort. turnout and passion of the multiple speakers. I just do not think it will move the needle enough for a fall return to play. If what occurred today was the first step in a movement starting in the summer and gathering weekly steam, it might have been another story. JB is dug in and today's noble efforts will just not muster the kind of pressure needed. Fall "high-risk" sports along with any timely return to widespread public school in-person learning are not looking promising.

This is actually gaining a lot of steam in the past couple weeks. Expect announcements in the coming weeks for more schools going to a hybrid model. A necessary step before full return (possibly after winter break)

I was there as well, the girl from St Laurence was great, I watched Springfield live, I think that will be more impactful.

Is "possibly after winter break" considered a timely full return to in-person learning?

I think there needs to be a united "Friday night rally" under the lights at everyone's school beginning at varsity game time happening simultaneously including coaches, parents and students for all sports. Of course it should include masks and social distancing,

It should include speakers as well as a outdoor pep rally, show your halftime show, show posters and have the rally..

Each school then would upload the protest events on social media for all to see.

Maybe every schools event could be streamed. Do it the way we know how to do it on Friday nights!

Of course at Montini I'm expecting fireworks like when they hosted Brother Rice.
Nice idea although probably a hard sell considering HS outdoor graduations in stadiums were forbidden even into the summer months. One interesting thought voiced by a rally speaker was how it was too easy for the shutdown-leaning politicians to say, "NO," when they should be asking, "HOW?"

Hard to get media (especially TV) to every school it's all about TV with these things...

John Holecek made an appearance a few days ago on "Chicago Tonight." He said that all of Loyola's teams, from tennis to lacrosse, have had thousands of interactions in the last few months and not a single transmission.

Wow, a lot went on this past Saturday didn't it? I am an optimistic person and I'd like to think this could give us fall football. But, JB is running out the clock. This Friday would have been week 5, right? Too late now for anything to happen in the Fall. Gotta hope for the spring I guess.

Something I neglected to say in my earlier post is this. With the national events that happened on Friday and continue to happen, COVID is getting knocked off the front pages and isn't the lead stories in the media. I am sure JB is OK with that.

Why do news reporters wear masks outside when nobody is around ?

Better hope basketball goes in the winter now. I’ve said before and I’ll say again. There will be no football in Feb or March if there is no hoops in Jan and Feb.
