I made a large error on that list. I left out Tony's of Lexington. It's a downtown restaurant that is a very high end steakhouse. It's extremely good but if this is your one trip to Lexington I would choose Merrick Inn patio over Tony's every single time.
Yes - Tony's was my choice the weekend bfore my heart attack - AND I DON'T CARE - I've gone back - just not had the sauteed pork belly for appetizer ......WHIL EMY WIFE IS WITH ME:grimace::grimace::grimace::grimace::grimace:

Visitor here - based on some of the comments I guess my reservations at Merrick Inn for dinner Friday night and Dudley's for lunch game day were good decisions. Additionally we plan a Sunday trip to the Ark. Any reviews or suggestions on that venture would be welcomed.

I went to the Ark last week and thought it was great! We bought a combo ticket which also covers the Creation museum even though we didn't have time to see it the tics are good for a year.

A question about Country Boy - can you buy it in cans at the brewery, or only growlers? Where can you buy their beer in cans (in Lex)?

Taking suggestions for a replacement - staying at the Marriott Griffin Gate so something within an easy drive. Thanks

I'd go with limestone blue. I'm assuming Middlefork will be unavailable. And I'm not sure they do lunch anyway.

Local taco is another option.

None of those are close to where you're staying. But not hard drives either.

Griffin Gate is situated maybe 5 minutes from downtown and Rupp Arena, and is practically on New Circle which will get you around the city easily. Honestly if you don't mind a 15-20 minute drive there's nothing in Lexington off limits. There isn't a whole lot out by Griffin Gate so you'll be driving in town anyway. Heed the suggestions in the thread, they're all legit. Merrick Inn is a must IMO. Great meal and then enjoy a bourbon and cigar on the patio.

Pazzo's has the best wings I've ever had. B-Dubs is a pretender.

Most perplexed I've been with a post, maybe ever. Maybe they changed or something.

Because it was either last fall or this spring that I was there and got the chicken wings, and they were truly the most awful wings I've ever had occasion to eat. Tasted just like the frozen bagged stuff you get at the grocery, and baked. To my knowledge they don't have a deep fryer. Any baked wing is going to be bad, but these were remarkably awful on a different level.

Maybe they changed chefs, setup, etc. So I'll concede it's possibly different now. Would almost think it would have to be, because those wings were terrible.

Maybe somebody can help me, I was making some beer cheese the other day and I was trying to remember the bar I used to go to in the late 70s that had the best beer cheese I have ever tasted. Thanks in advance.

For lunch? I recommend Windy Corner. I live at Griffin Gate and it's close to there. Good food. Plus you get to see some horse farm country.

Great suggestion...would I need reservations for lunch? I like the opportunity to see some horse farms.

CB3UK is correct. Also, the Marriott is a 5 minute trip down the interstate to Malone's in Hamburg.

I'll second his suggestion. Beautiful drive through the heart of the Bluegrass. You'll see some of the best scenery we have to offer en route to a delicious lunch.

Edit: no reservations required at Windy.

If you want great pizza, Pazzo's or Joe Bologna's.
Gonna have to disagree. For great pizza, try Pies and Pints or even Rolling Oven foodtruck. The last time I had Joe B's, it was awful. I've heard Pazzo's revamped their menu so I'll have to try it out...

Yes they're baked. And they were big, juicy, and fall off the bone.

I've never liked Joe B's or Pazzos either.

Best pizza in town imo is Goodfellas easily. With Pies and Pints 2nd.

Tony's would be just OK if the prices were about half what they were. I was very underwhelmed the one time I went there.

You can buy cans at Country Boy, but most Liquor Barns or other liquor stores have their cans.

I agree that Goodfellas is the best pizza. Puccini's and Mellow Mushroom aren't bad, either.

I would definitely consider Windy Corner for lunch. For anyone from out-of-town, you really should make sure you get to Ramsey's for at least one meal.

Thanks, shotgun wedding is what I am looking for. Sounds like a pre-game stop at their brewery...

Willie's locally known is a great local spot down on Southland drive, and Seafood an oyster bar you can't go wrong with The Ketch, also down on Southland drive. If you make it to Willie's try to go early and get the burnt ends and some smoked deviled eggs, they have a good selection of beer on tap as well.

We are going to make a reservation at the Merrick Inn tonight. Are there bars within walking distance of the restaurant?

No. You could go across the street to Drakes/Malones but that'd be no different than enjoying the Merrick Inn patio after your meal. Tates Creek is a major artery so you'll need to drive across the street if you even wanted to do that. You'll need to drove/taxi/etc wherever for drinks after Merrick.

We had dinner at the Merrick Inn on Friday night. The atmosphere and food was great. This place is a must for anyone traveling to Lexington. We had lunch twice at Cheapside. We liked the atmosphere. We drank at McCarthy's during the day on Saturday. We enjoyed the environment. We went to the Campus Pub twice. It was within walking distance of our hotel. The people were very friendly even after the game.
