Lexington is getting a national reputation for violent city. I don't want to think it is true but shootings don't help the reputation. I would think it would be a safe city but it is very liberal and liberal leadership is not a safe environment in most places.
The last time I was in Lexington for a UK football game I asked a police officer about Lexington shootings. He said I-75 and I-64 intersect and this may be a busy drug traffic route. I don't know, maybe some local would have the answer to that. Drugs kill and drug dealers shoot

Thank you, beat me to it. Lived here my whole life, and can't remember ever even seeing a gun other than at a firing range, or on a police officer's belt.
By the way, our "liberal" mayor, Linda Gorton, is married to a retired General. I happen to know them both personally, and frankly LOL at some of the idiotic things some posters pull out of their ***.
Lexington has a nice rep with Detroit for whatever reason...
It's halfway between Detroit and Atlanta right on i75. It's short drive to Cinci and Louisville. It's a relatively sleepy college town compared to bigger cities, but plenty big enough to not look suspicious to small town cops. Huge rich white kid population to buy a lot of drugs for high prices. Big destination for southern/eastern KY.
There are detroit goons arrested frequently in Richmond, they buy up houses right near the interstate. They're booked, then released just like all criminals nowadays. No big deal. Can't imagine what it's like in Lexington.

Well, you should probably stay away from Shariatown and Gangdover Hills. Other than that, it's pretty safe.
That is the issue right there, intersection of 2 interstates, I have heard the same thing from local law enforcement officers. Stay out of the drug trade, and while not perfect, Lexington is as safe as anywhere

I am glad to hear this. I do not want Lexington to be a violent city. The drug trade has to have something to do with the shootings. Maybe. maybe not.
So cut down on your shootings and make your neighborhoods save. Are you able to walk down any neighborhood night or day without any fear? If so you are fortunate to live in a safe city.
I did but that was only part of our conversation. A very smalll part. He was a very nice officer a professional . Police officers are friendly and will engage in conversation. Don't be afraid of them.

^point being that can be said of *most* places in the US. There are some no go areas but that is pretty rare, and its always been that way.
Mash, I haven't specifically kept up with shootings in Lexington during the past year. However, it seems that I see this on the news a couple of times each week. Just for the hell of it, I might keep tabs for a few weeks. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
You mentioned, Richmond. The other day, I exited going north at the Cracker Barrell exit and turned right onto US 25. There was a panhandler at the exit (no big deal as I see them all the time). However, in the trees to my right, I could barely see a tent in the bottom of the ravine. Appears as though the panhandler had found a perfect spot to live in his tent and walk about 50 yards to his day job. Very innovative. [roll]

Wasn't that long ago a little girl was paralyzed by one of many bullets that were sprayed at her house. Were her parents in the drug trade? Idk, iirc, it was a single mom household. Who knows...
My point here is this stuff does spill over and hurts innocent people, and some of the latest Lexington shootings were just drive by spray up houses type of bs. That needs to stop. Whoever is responsible needs to be caught and not given some bs plea deal.
Oh you are right, and I am very familiar with that incident, am a member of BIAK [used to be HBAK, I keep forgetting that they changed the name], which organization helped build her a house made specially for her disability, she was at a sleepover playing in the front yard, IIRC.
But that kind of stuff can and does happen every once in a blue moon in any number of cities, and some rural areas, it is not just Lexington. And hell yes, they need to have the book thrown at them.

They've been breaking records each year for homicides....which can be a bit misleading stat. Memphis at a time was down on homicides, but wayyyyy up on shootings and attempted murders. They were just better at getting victims to the hospital and saving them better than ever. Idk if Lexington is way up in shootings, but I would guess they are.
I understand why this is a taboo subject for politicians and attorneys who are dead set on giving absolute minimum sentences, and offering pleas down to lesser charges to look better on "paper", but I don't understand why citizens would get all "muh city safe as anchorage!" about it, like any violence is acceptable as long as some graph says it's "normal".

This morning here in ATX, I noticed more homeless passengers than usual on the bus ride into work. They always sit in the back and are sleeping. Temperatures dropped into the mid-40s and we received above-average rainfall overnight. That crowd understands survival.
You knowing them ,and her being married to a general doesnt exactly mean anything at all. If any person is a democrat in Ky today they have to either be a decades long union member ( or some STRONG wallet connection) Or have more than 1 liberal bone in that body somewhere . Carry on . Guy I work with little brother was shot over the weekend down by 2 keys area in the chest. His aunt works here as well. said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and hit by random or some ****. fighting for his life and may be paralyzed. only 22.
