1. Lexington traffic is NOT bad. If you think traffic here is bad, you need to expand your horizons and get out of central KY sometime.
2. Housing here is NOT expensive. It's a very affordable place to live.
3. Like every city, there are dangerous spots in Lexington. I've personally never heard a gunshot in 20+ years of living here. Avoid trouble and it usually won't find you.
You got me interested, so I checked a few listings. I'm seeing great deals in Lex in Galberith area on fixer uppers. High crime? Sure, but I'd bet the crime rate in our area where we currently live is probably higher. Some older student rental 4-plexes, sale-pending, near campus are what I'd consider as steals. Just saw a new shotgun (1 BR/1 BA) on Chestnut for $60K. Wow! Parking is a pain-in-the-*** near those dwellings, though.

Tons of potential around Lex. Tons.

A lot of cities around the country are having problems. We have enabled drug use and lessened the punishment on just about everything because our jails are too full.

Certain drugs particularly are much worse. I know several (10+) highly successful people who smoke weed on the regular and never get into trouble, so I don't think legalizing weed has had much if any negative effect. Pills and meth seem to be at the center of most drug trouble spots.

I had a meeting in Jessamine County just across county line on Nicholasville Road this PM, had to drive from my office on Main Street in Lexington to his office. It is 7.8 miles per Google Maps.

Took me thirty minutes to get to Fayette Mall, nearly 40 minutes to cross Man O War, where I could finally drive something close to speed limit. About a 45 minute drive, to go less than 8 miles.

Memo to self: DO NOT SCHEDULE MEETINGS ON FRIDAY PM WHEN UK IS IN SESSION WHICH REQUIRE ANY DRIVING ON NICHOLASVILLE ROAD EVER AGAIN.

You didn't have a free road to drive as fast as you want on a major city artery, during the middle of the day, that has a lot of retail, and the largest university in the state on the way? That's HIGHLY unusual for a city. Pretty crazy stuff.

Just because you don't like it doesn't stop it from being fact.

I live in Lexington. Have for 20 years. Just because there are some redneck pieces of **** who would swallow Trumps load who think it‘s not a good place to live doesn’t make it so. Go back to your mom’s basement and jerk off to Don Jr’s Twitter, guy. You’re a piece of garbage.

You’re the piece of **** who can’t figure out how to work a self service lane at the grocery store. Cashier is your ceiling and you’re 7 feet short.

My lord, you are the most estrogen-laced poster on this board. And your reading comprehension is pure ****. I asserted nothing about Lexington. Bad or good. I love Lexington, you easily triggered snowflake. The talking point was liberal leadership. Nothing more and nothing less. Stick your head in a donkey's ***.

Yeah, when drug use is cited these days it commonly refers to harder drugs and not recreational. Probably should have led with that. Moreover making a point about the weaknes of punishment for harder crimes. But that too depends on where you are convicted and what judge/jury you have.

Tmfs, I lived next door to a Canadian in Lexington. Probabaly not KJR, but could be....

This frenchy twit decides he wants to buy a motorcycle. Potential seller brings one by, Frenchy hops on, goes vroooooom right across the street and puts a huge dent in someone’s garage door, walks around with a neck brace for a while after.

Lexington is dangerous, wear a helmet.

Lol. I used to work at a hotel that is a mile from Commonwealth Stadium. We had people come in with no reservation for orientation weekend and then be amazed that we were sold out.

Keep on glorifying!!!!
No one knows wtf this even means? Keep glorifying what? All I said is to keep the political **** out of every thread. Some of us can look at the world without politics glasses on, and you and your ilk obviously cannot. It’s a sever character flaw that you and others have. Quit ruining everything. You’re awful.

-i lean hard right on most stuff.

-those of you that are pushing the "librul leadership" bs...arent helping your cause. Lexington is a great place.l, its not sanfran/portland/dc/detroit et al. Calm yourselves.

-back to topic...if you are worried about gun violence, legalize recreational weed as a start. Tax it. Spend tax money on treatment for folks. Hammer hard drug dealers on all levels...we would have plenty o room in jails if we weren't wasting time/treasure fighting "the devils lettuce."

we would have plenty o room in jails if we weren't wasting time/treasure fighting "the devils drink." <- what they said about alcohol. Not sure alcohol related crimes went down with legalization.

Weed dealers won't find reg jobs same way with the boot leggers. They will switch to selling hard drugs. Legalize it all. Regulate and tax the hell out of it. Legal age at 25 when the brain has a chance to fully develop. Taxes pay for prevention and rehab programs. Make the drug companies open their own hospitals with drug/tobacco related health patients. Regular hospitals turn your *** down. Now way should I pay extra for premiums to pay for other people's dumbass drug habits.

Alcohol and beverage industry big reason it hasn't happened yet in my opinion.

-don't disagree. I would add fat people to the list...as obesity costs more than all others combined. Not my fault those people eat like pigs....shouldn't have to pay higher premiums cause they can't lay off dew/doritos.

agreed. #1 reason I don't want government run healthcare or healthcare for all. No way to be free. I want you to be able to do whatever the hell you want with your life/body but don't expect me to pay for it.

Others would say you have zero right to dictate to others what points they may offer. That, and being so immediately, incessantly offended as if the most "sever" (lol) of insensitivity had been cast upon you are major character flaws of your own. You are the purest of modern libtard: intolerant to anything that interferes with your comfort, your "safe space". Never will you be man enough to endure conditions you cannot control. Might as well begin your transition now. Google ******+Amazon . . . that may not help, just a random guess.

Lexington getting a rep as a violent city [laughing].

The murder rate per 100k is similar to the well-known murder capitols Colorado Springs, Long Beach, Charlotte, Minneapolis, St. Petersburg, and Anchorage.
It's hard to make a comparison to other cities when Lexington includes the entire county and other cities generally don't. Cincinnati has a terrible crime rate, but if it became consolidated with Hamilton County, Ohio, I guarantee that the crime rate would drastically drop overnight.

Heroin and gangs from further North.
Not a homegrown problem.
FWIW law enforcement in Lexington does a pretty good job containing drug and gang problems, in relation to other cities and considering its proximity to major interstates.

It does have bad traffic, have to agree on that. And it has gotten worse over the past 20 years, urban service area has not really expanded since 1995, and yet they estimate Lexington will have 375,000 residents by 2030, just ten years from now.
I don't live in lex but work there and the traffic is terrible. Granted I have to go into downtown and drive an hour just to get there.

I guarantee you would see overdoses plummet if weed was legalized. It would also put a huge dent IN the pockets of pharmaceutical companies, especially pain and nerve pills. Meth has exploded in my south central Kentucky town. It looks like the walking dead sometimes.

Yep, when people complain about gun violence, and yes it's a problem, no one ever brings up the 40,000 people who die a month from obesity related problems. But some people really can't help it, be it genetics or whatever. But I agree. If you say that you're fat shaming though. People are free to do whatever with their bodies, but they need to realize overeating will kill them.
