Like him or not, Todd Golden is a very good coach

Be interesting to see who has the better team this time next year assuming TG is still at Florida.
Both he and Pope lose most of their rosters.
Golden may be in worse shape if he loses Condon to the draft.
I believe if we retain Oweh, Garrison, Chandler and Kriisa, we will be a lot better than most on this board believe. I’d expect we could be top 10 depending on what the rest of CBB looks like. Having multiple players already acclimated with this system is huge, aside from individual player progression.

Golden is Pearls adopted son, they talk daily. He can Coach and build a roster better than just about anyone. The Coed situation would give me pause if I’m looking to hire him away but the guy is the best young coach in the game.

I wouldn’t think twice about hiring him. Nothing was proven on that and by all accounts Florida had zero fear as an administration about the legitimacy of any of it. Anyone who avoids hiring the guy will have pie face. Indiana should go all in, so should North Carolina if he’s available when Hubert gets fired. Both schools are too sanctimonious to see that though, I’d bet

Golden is a guy I've been very high on since he was at San Francisco. Now I didn't know he'd accelerate things this quickly when he got to UF, but loved his style of coaching and most importantly to me in identifying a coach-he blends a great eye for talent with player development. That is so important-getting them is step one but getting them to be what you envision is the hardest part and he's excelled with that.

I live in Florida and have listened to Golden on the gator radio network numerous times. He doesn’t have much of a personality and is frankly boring to listen to, so i don't think he would relate here. No doubt his roster is excellent this year.

He could be the most bland vanilla human being ever. If he can coach, which he can I would gladly take him here one day

Yeah he’s a damn good coach. We will see if he got lucky with this team and the core he found, but his style and they way they rebound is elite. He would definitely be a great candidate to take over someday if Pope doesn’t work out, although I don’t find that likely.
I agree that we will need to wait and see. Sometimes you just get lucky. All three of those guards can shoot the lights out but took time to develop. SGA and Reed are our examples of guys developing from lower rankings but the Kentucky effect sends them to the NBA immediately if they show development promise.
It took SGA five years. Looks like Reed will take that long too.

Time will tell if he can sustain this level of success with multiple groups of players, but this year’s Florida team is undoubtedly one of the most complete teams in the country. Their guards are killers, and they’re complemented by multiple bigs that can defend, rebound, and score at the rim. Certainly not a team anybody will want to see in the tournament.

Where's the pessimism? I think Pope will be able to turn around the program. I'm just stating a reality. He can turn around the program (which I think he will) while simultaneously be evaluated by BBN. Every coach in our lifetime has faced this type of scrutiny from our fans.
Agree with cawood.. all your posts are pessimistic or backhanded complement to pope.. If you are a fan you sure as in hell don't write like one....

Idk, Mike white isn’t an all timer but he didn’t leave Florida bare. Let’s see what he can do when the 3 headed monster of Richard, Clayton and Martin leave. those 3 and their style of play is made for the tourney.

Hahaa, true. That escapade alone is why he'll never be at uk. One of my Gator alum buddies said golden has been talked to by the athletic dept about some of his coed interactions. I don't know if the salacious stuff is true, probably not. But I guess he was nosy with some coeds and was not particularly careful who heard.

Sounds like just as credible as the "sources" of posters saying Billy D was moving to kentucky and bought a horse ranch back in 2007.

This ...."friend" ...of yours just so happens to know the private details of meetings of an AD and a HC?

Try harder to be more believable next time or find friends that don't lie to you.

You got me.

Congratulations.

After 18 long years of posting here, and around 42,000 posts, you're the first one to figure it out. I'm really a closet Villanova fan, planted here years ago by Jay Wright to tilt BBN's outlooks toward pro-Nova propaganda. Our long-game goal is to make Villanova the most respected Wildcat in America. Before today, we were thinking that we might accomplish our feat within 70 years, but with this setback, it might be 100 years before we reach the goal that Supreme Leader Lappas set years ago.

We are working overtime lately to deflect from the Kyle Neptune debacle. So the Philadelphia Chapter of the Illuminati gave me my marching orders a few months ago from our secret lair below the Finneran Pavilion. After rubbing ourselves down with Rollie Masismino's ashes in our typical opening ceremony in which we wear nothing but some replica 1985 Ed Pinckney shorts and one knee-high sock in honor of Kerry Kittles, we thumped our chests three times each, shouted, "Hail Pinckney!" and then they told me the plan.

"Saul," said the current Grand Supreme Leader (whose Society name is "Kerry Kittles' Skittles"), "you've got to go over there to Cats Illustrated and point out two things that will take that Kentucky site down. Number One, write about the ceiling for their current injury-depleted roster won't win more than 9 to 10 SEC games. Number Two, make sure you factor in injuries and write in such a way that you utilize rationality and logic. Even in that scenario you will surely be able to spread some bad mojo over there. Number Three, make sure you point out how even though you believe Mark Pope is the man for the job, there are also other great coaches in the SEC who might make Pope be scrutinized over the next few years. That will take the place down and send them all into a panic. Just be careful. If and when @un4getables shows up, he might notice that in the four or five posts that's he's read of yours all-time, there's an outside chance he will only spot the 5 to 10% of your 42,000 posts that have ever been halfway critical. If he does notice, you'll be outed, so stay as incognito as you can. Good luck, and go Nova, Saul."

So I concede you the high ground, friend. You got me. My gig is up.

If you think my post was "worked up"....I'm not sure how you deal with real life stuff that can be far more "worked up"

As for your buddy? Sure...

Something about being a Florida sport coach that makes you be inappropriate with women apparently.

we will see

But I think he is not next Davis

Davis used Roy's players...

And Golden constructs this team by himself...

Big difference...

Yes, I agree he is dick in person

Golden has definitely benefited from the "fifth year effect"
He also pulled Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh from Australia.
You're not going to be able to duplicate this particular recruiting model year in and year out.

Eventually losing a guy like Walter Clayton is going to sting a bit. And I think they're losing him and their other 2 leading scorers (if the covid stuff is done, I'm never quite sure).

This is where you find out how good a coach is. A lot of them can throw together a team for a year or two, but eventually, they have to graduate. Golden seems legit, but next years team is going to be very different.
His 7' 9" project may be a difference maker. Only time will tell but Golden is not a flash in the pan. We will be dealing with him for years. It would be next to impossible to get an existing SEC coach that is successful to come to the pressure cooker of UK. Bruce and Oats did not show any interest. I'm sure if either had any interest in us, their agent would or could have made contact. Ask yourself if you are making $5 or $6 million per year, woud you leave Bama or Auburn to come the the pressure that comes with being the coach here. Don't answer that with your heart because you can't get your head around not being a Wildcat. Answer it a a business decision. Why do you think we ended up with Pope? I hope you don't think he was anywhere near the top of KY's list. Pope or his agent I'd bet my arm on was the contact side, not Barnhart. Not negative of Pope, but he was not on the radar the first week of a coaching search. Beard might be in a different situation because he needs to rebuild his image. What better way to do that, than to be the head coach in Lexington.

None of those three were holdovers from Mike.
I believe the only player on roster with a connection is Aberdeen, who was a White recruit.

I would honestly take their roster over anyone's going into the tournament. Guards for days. Wings that can shoot and slash. Big guys that can do everything. Solid bench. Hell our game with them was the best game of the year for me.
I'd just like to point out I chose Florida's roster over everyone else's and they proved me right. Wish I'd of bet on them back on March 5th.

Golden is a good coach and is one of the best up and coming young coaches, however we couldn't ask for a better coach for this program than somebody who played here and KNOWS what it means and to coach here. In head to head match ups, Pope leads five to one, four of those wins were at BYU and one at Kentucky. Golden didn't set the world on fire at San Francisco, never finishing better than fourth in the West Coast conference. Florida loses their three starting guards, they are not nearly as imposing without those three. They will still be a good team with their front court and I'm sure will get portal help at guard. Georgetown had most everybody back from their 84 championship team and couldn't win it the next year, a team has to be good and lucky to repeat consecutive years. It will be interesting to see how Florida and Golden do in the next few years.

i know, I was one of the ones hoping we might go after Golden before Pope was in the picture. I also thought Florida had a real good chance to win it all and they were my pick to win it all, I didn't have Houston in the finals though. They were a worthy opponent, I loved it went they took Duke out of it.
