I think a lot of questions about next year's team will be answered. Namely, we might be able to tell which direction the program is going to go. Might.

I like that Stoops sees he needs some experience to assist him at head coach. It is disappointing that it took him 3 years to figure that out. I hope all these titles he is handing out doesn't cause any power struggles though. We now have 2 offensive coordinators and 2 defensive coordinators. Hopefully all these changes improve our play and add a few more wins to the total next year. I still am not sold on Stoops, but I will give him 1 more year to prove himself before I completely write him off.

No power struggles, just more money.

See, that's the problem with assuming something without knowing for sure. From KSR:

"Eddie Gran was a candidate for the offensive coordinator job last season, but when Shannon Dawson got the job, I think most of us assumed that Mark Stoops decided to go with Dawson over Gran. Stoops just told reporters that wasn’t the case. Stoops said he offered Gran the job last year, but Gran “wasn’t quite ready to come.”

“He was on my radar from day one,” Stoops said of Gran. “Then he went to Cincinnati, became the offensive coordinator and did very well. Did that for two years and I talked to him a year ago, and Eddie wasn’t quite ready to come. He had only been there two years at Cincinnati with Tommy and wanted to stick it out and this year, after I made the change, I pursued him and wasn’t going to let him tell me no.”

Building up coordinators is part of being an HC. If Ansley is a hot commodity, as Stoops suggested, let him know that he can stay here, get more responsibilities and start to build his resume for an eventual DC position, here or elsewhere. Smart move by Stoops. I thought he would do this with Buh, but if Ansley is ready, good call.

At least that answers the question as to why Gran wasn't pursued last season if that's the truth. It's why I said I think UK had to settle for Dawson and he didn't pick him over anybody. We'll see how this co-DC thing works out. Just hope it isn't too many cooks in the kitchen. Hopefully, it will allow Stoops to just worry about being a head coach.

more money and keeps other teams from just offering the same db spot. teams are gonna have to really offer him a lot of money or an dc spot to get him away now. cant say im mad. he's killing it recruiting and he's already got a couple big timers for next year with us high on their list. '

the staff as a whole is starting to look like an sec staff. we just have to start getting it done on the O side of the ball. give gran a couple years with this talent and recruiting and i think he'll get us there. at least he'll improve us enough to win games like vandy and ul last year where the D played good enough to win the game but we got squat from the O.

Does explain alot about why Gran wasn't pursued last year. Still think Brown kinda screwed us by leaving after 2 years...he should have stayed 3 years and then left but whatever.

We now have experience on the offensive side and we've got coaches who are turning down offers elsewhere to stay here, that tells me alot about the type of coach Stoops is. And why I don't believe for a second all the talk about him micromanaging everything.

I fully expect this offense to take off next year. Should be one of the more explosive offenses in the SEC. Lots of talent, lots of experience. Now just need to shore up that oline and we're good to go.

I wouldn't over think the Co-DC promotion. It's to reward Ansley for the job he's doing and show UK recognizes that and want him to stay. Stoops stressed there is no reduction in responsibility or a demotion of any kind for Elliot. Ansley will just be specialized to his area of expertise to provide opinions and insight to Elliot to make decisions.

Encouraged to hear Gran and Hinshaw talk about Conrad and how useful he will be. He was criminally underused last year.

Gran speaking highly of C.J. Conrad and using the tight end to exploit match ups, should make this board really happy. I'm definitely a fan of TE's, mainly the ones that a linebacker can't cover.

Disagree about Brown, Stoops knew he was interviewing for a HC job just before he hired him at UK, then Troy came open, a school where he made a name as an OC.

Obvious both Gran and Hinshaw love idea of working with him without going overboard.

Listening to these guys and how they handle themselves, I think it's safe to say we fans will come to love these hires.
in retrospect it is almost jarring what an awful fit Dawson was

throw to tight ends? nah, never did that before, will give it a try here (maybe 3 or 4 games Conrad got out into paterns)
running quarterbacks? nah, don't do that. Meanwhile everyone else in CFB uses the QB in the run game to put pressure on defenses (especially our D, lol)
wildcat formations? nope, never did that before either.

Love that we are hiring this team of coaches. They clearly work very well together. Hinshaw in the booth and Gran on the field during games. They ar flexible and will plug our talent into the best situations to get yards. The players have to be pumped!

I'm sure he's fretting you writing him off. But, then again, he will save the postage on your Christmas card next year if you do.

I am completely pro-UK biased and jaded, but you could not be more right IMO. Gran and Hinshaw exude confidence and ability - never got that feeling from Dawson.

These guys make a great team. This is a huge jump from the 2 coaches they replaced. I like that they say they will take what the D gives them and they will adjust/adapt according to our personnel.

It is semantics, but I don't get why Gran says he isnt air raid. every UC game I viewed his O was spread 4 wide with the QB in the shotgun, lots of short passes. And I don't get the people on twitter saying "horray!" about us allegedly being pro style vs air raid. Does anyone expect us to be lined up with the QB under center with a fullback & halfback lined up split or in an I, with a TE, and only 2 wide receivers?

Also if there are any worries Stoops will micromanage these guys. Forget it. They know what they are doing and Stoops knows it.

That isn't pro style these days.

Almost every team in the NFL is in the shotgun with multiple wides and tight ends for a good portion of their offensive snaps.

Was very impressed by both coaches. They seem to work great together. I love their their system is flexible and adjust to their personnel and opposing defenses. They both talked about Conrad alot and hopefully they will turn him into the next Travis Kelce. I expect the offense to take a big jump next season. I dont see the offense loosing us games like it did against Vandy, UF and UofL. Was glad they classified that Stoops wanted Gran last year but he wasnt ready to move on yet.

My "yay" on Twitter is more related to semantics than actual offensive implementation. I think many (casual) UK football fans (the majority?) expected to see the Hal Mumme/Mike Leach version of the AR - the "throw it deep, Jarrruuuddd" crowd. I think it will help manage expectations by simply no longer referring to the offensive scheme as the AR. Also, from the games I watched of UC, the use the TE and QB run option a lot more than a conventional AR would.

Not sure how anyone could have thought we were going to be Hal Mumme type Air Raid, you have got to be able to run the ball in the SEC and most of power 5 football conferences to win games.

Pistol formation. QB is reportedly in short shotgun and passing is quick with read option aspects.
