During the season, I revel in hating all the Big 12 football teams except my beloved Red Raiders. Strangely, even with all that hatred built up inside, my heart tends to soften a bit as bowl season arrives. Maybe it is the Christmas spirit or maybe even all the holiday cheer. Nevertheless, I find myself cheering for all the teams in the Big 12. I cheer because I want the Big 12 to show they are the best conference in the country.

Without a doubt there are several great football conferences across this great land. The question I want answered is whether the Big 12 is the best. Rather than trying to compare the strength of schedules, win/loss records, or some other annoying statistic, it will be decided on the field. What better metric is there than head to head results? This bowl season the Big 12 will play schools from the ACC, Pac 12, and SEC (and possibly the Big 10). I am sure they will all be great games, but the stakes are high. Our conference is under attack. Under attack because we don't have a championship game. Under attack because we supposedly rely too much on high tempo offense. Big 12 teams need to go take care of business and silence the critics. For some, not even winning all of the bowl games will change their thoughts on the Big 12. But Winning is the strongest statement that can be made in the argument over which conference is the best. Maybe it ends up only counting for off-season bragging rights, but that's OK too.

Then again, you may not be able to get past the disdain you have for your Big 12 foes and will get more gratification if they all lose. I will not blame you for that. I am sure all of us Red Raiders will have a hard time pulling for a certain guy on a certain team that could be playing for it all on January 11th.

Whichever way you lean I wish you all a happy bowl season.

Go Big 12!

The Big 12 bowl games will divvy up bragging rights and potentially a whole lot more. Texas Tech and Baylor get the party started on December 29th. Consider this the Big 12 call to arms!

No one cares about this irrellvant topic. The Power 5 is established and the table has been set. The existing players have a reservation for good at the big boy table. If someone runs around chirping that any of these conferences are the best, or in other words, conference pride this and that they need to get a life.

I think most people are going to be interested in watching more than just one bowl game this year (Cactus Bowl). Seems only logical that most fans ( not all ) from Big 12 schools would like to see Big 12 teams win as many bowls as possible. There is a bigger world out there beyond the borders of West Virginia.

With 10 teams in the Big12 with all teams playing each other plus OOC games and having 7 teams in bowl games says alot about the quality of the Big12. This is the most competitive league top to bottom and WVU is on track as far as competing. Looking forward to some great bowl games.

Well, let's just hope we do better than the 8-14 (2 losses to non-P5) since we joined the league.

Thus far, Bowl seasons have not done much to support the Big 12 is the strongest conference argument. (Nor have regular season Power 5 match-ups). Oklahoma (until this season) and UT not being in peak form has lent some support to it being the most internally competitive conference, but, yippee yay when we haven't been one of the teams competing.

When most of the conference has 3 easy wins OOC and you don't even need a 4-5 conference record to make a bowl, a lot of teams making a bowl shows only that if you don't lose to ISU or Kansas all you have to do is win one other conference game. Even Texas could have won 7 games this year if it played the OOC games Baylor, OSU, KSU and we played and it might have been bowl eligible playing any other team's OOC schedule.

Baylor will need a QB. Johnson is good to go having passed the concussion protocol already, but he hasn't shown much. No definitive word on Stidham so far. Briles said he will start Johnson but whether Stidham will be available is still vague:

Latest on Stidham's Playing Status
Tuesday, Dec. 15
Shehan Jeyarajah of the Dallas Morning News reported Stidham hasn't been ruled out against UNC yet.

Briles Comments on Stidham's Status
Monday, Dec. 14
When asked if Stidham would be ready to play against the Tar Heels, Baylor head coach Art Briles responded, "It doesn't look like he's going to be ready," per Matt Murschel of the Orlando Sentinel.

I think both OU and Clemson are better than they were last year. Does Mayfield mean OU has improved by so much more than Clemson that last year's 40-6 Clemson win can be discounted. Maybe, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Doesn't mean squat to WVU if OU or OSU wins or loses. Sounds like a fan not satisfied with his school of choice. I went through the entire bowl listing. There are no more than 7 good college football games. Probably 5 if you're honest.

Happy with WVU and happy with the Big 12 - not exclusive things. It would be nice if the defending national champions visited Morgantown next year. A strong conference helps all the members especially in the rankings and national exposure. There is a bigger world out there beyond the borders of West Virginia.

I really want .... and half way expect ..... OU and Baylor to lay the wood to Clemson and UNC.

Let me tell you that the Clemson QB is an awesome player. He 'sees' the entire field and as a result can do about what he wants to do. He is the type QB that every team dreams of having. Yes................even WVU.

Greggys just upset that the ACC sucks, Heinz sucks, Oakland sucks, and pitt sports suck. He has to come over here just to feel relevant and joyous. Poor thing. Just go to the corner greggy and get a hug from that crack head ***** working your corner. You know, the one(s) with the pitt gear that she got at Gabes.

I always root for my Conference Mates in OOC and Bowl Games. They say you are judged by the company you keep and I like to keep Good Company. Go Big 12!

And yet here he is discussing it on a WVU board.......weird isn't it.

Honestly? You don't think the SEC Brand helps their teams with recruiting?

dont mistake the Big12 with the SEC. Using them in the same sentense is goofy. There are recruiting ceilings at places like WVU, Kansas schools and other Big12 schools besides Texas and Oklahoma. So when WVU and others win lame bowls it means nothing. If it's about WVU then don't hold your breath. The Big12 will never bring great top 15 recruiting classes to WVU. That means WVU will not compete consistantly for top three in Big12 so get use to what last few years looked like. Hous just need to embrace reality and own.

Your "reality" and mine are two different states of mind. I never said WVU wold be pulling in Top 15 recruiting classes, your words, not mine. I DID say that a successful Big 12 will HELP WVU and the other conference mates. Your comments about WVU could have just as easily been said, and probably were, about Ole Miss and Miss State yet both were One and Two in the country at one point last season. And don't kid yourself, they both HAVE benefited from the SEC brand. I do believe a Rising Tide Lifts All Boats. A successful Big 12 Bowl Season is GOOD for ALL. You could never convince me otherwise.

The Cactus Bowl will do next to nothing for WVU recruiting on the entire east coast (or anywhere else for that matter).

Sure, recruiters can say we played in the game.... ...but I doubt many kids (even a lot of WVU fans) actually see it. A 10:15 advertised start time (so expect at least 10:30 pm ) with the game ending 2 am 'ish.

At least it's a weekend game.. ...I guess.

I understand guys like you can't be convinced of anything. I get it. I get a kick out guys like you that bring up the Big 12, WVU and the SEC in the same sentense. Funny stuff! Dude WVU is not a top 20 program. Can have a top 20 year but far and few between. Don't come down on me for stating the obvious. Check your history and you admit I'm obviously right. Embrace WVU for what they are. That is a middle of the pack Big12 program. Nothing more.

Well, the OP might as well cheer for Oklahoma and K-State, since his beloved head coach cannot beat them in the conference schedule........
