Don’t know if he plans to come back to US events later in the year, but he finished fifth in the opening European event. Good job.

After third round Lipsky and Fitzpatrick are tied for 22nd in the European event. Another good round tomorrow and Lipsky will be well on his way to retaining his European Tour card for next year, which would give him a lot of freedom to go back on the Korn-Ferry Tour to try to get his PGA Tour card.

I am positive that's the plan. The KF tour doesn't start for another 3 weeks and he's 12th in the KF Tour rankings, which are carrying over to this year. If I were Lipsky I would play the next 2-3 weeks in the Middle East, where he has had a ton of success, and then come back and build up points for the PGA. The KF Tour must suck compared to playing in Europe. He also performs better there.

He only needs maybe EUR50k (if that) in earnings to retain his card in Europe. Just checked - the 115th place guy in 2019 earned slightly less than EUR295k. He may just need to play in a few more tournaments if there's some kind of minimum commitment. There's no reference to a minimum # of tournaments but I recall that being a balancing act for guys like Luke Donald.

His winner's exemption is going to expire this year.

Yes, the minimum number of tournaments will be the issue. I think he has to play about 10 or 12 of them. Luke had the advantage that he was able to play in a lot of majors and WGC tournaments each year, which count as both PGA and European events, so he only had to play in about 4-6 purely Euro Tour events. Lipsky won’t have that luxury.

Lipsky is in this week's Euro Tour event as well. Pretty high-powered field; lots of world top 50 players.
