I'll describe it the best I can. I was so shocked that he was allowed to tear into Stoops I might not get it perfect but it went something like this: He said his name was Dale and he took off like a rocket. Said Stoops says the guys need to be bigger, stronger, faster etc but reminded him that he said that three years ago and now he's had those three years and he says the talent is better so why are we still getting beaten while an underdog to a team like Vandy. Told him he can't say he's upgraded the talent one day and then use the lack of talent as an excuse the next day. He said Stoops claims UK football has been terrible for over 50 years and that was BS. He said Brooks had some good teams and we finally put money into the program and he didn't appreciate Stoops saying UK football has never had a winning program. Stoops sort of apologized for the comment but Dale went after him again and Stoops told Tom to let the guy keep talking. Dale said the fans bought in and they're doing their part and said Stoops doesn't even have a special teams coach and ended by saying that if we finish by losing the next two games that there won't be any fans in the stands next year and UK fans deserve better than what we're getting and it's time to see improvement. Then when he was hanging up to listen it seemed like Tom and Stoops were taking his comments a little light hearted and he jumped back in and told them it wasn't funny. Then Stoops started to acknowledge Dale's comments and the feed went haywire for five minutes so we couldn't hear what Stoops had to say. More than anything it was the passion in Dale's voice. If this guy could have suited up he would have beaten Vandy by himself. I really hope this wasn't a set up because he hit almost every point the fans are pissed about and he was madder than hell but he was very fair.

That pretty much covers it except he did ask how long it would take to get big enough and strong enough to which Stoops answered "I don't know". My personal favorite was when he said "there are people all over Kentucky right now saying 'hell yeah, Dale'". Dude was on a roll.

Stoops is getting where he does nothing but make excuses! We don't have this, or that, have to get better. That's on me! He sounds like Al Golden! When do you say it is on you and let him go?

He does spend a lot of time making excuses and even more time saying he doesn't make excuses.

I would guess that what is taking place right now is very similar to what probably occurred with brother Mike at Arizona.

The real question I have is whether or not "Ronnie from Marshall County" called in to give his take.

Missed the first couple of minutes...

Stoops said he's happy with special teams as a whole, still prefers the committee approach..

I don't get it. When you have a "committee approach", there is no accountability since it is spread around. That is why we have not seen improvement. Management and Head Coaching 101.

Stoops does have way too many excuses for a head coach. It's kind of pathetic. Like when he says if it worked theyd be calling me a genius when asked about horrible play calls. And when getting criticized he says it's harder than it looks and tells the fans to try it out. You're getting paid 3 million a year to do something you're not any good at shut up and get better.

One thing I have learned in business and the real world, it is alright to have excuses and explanations for problems or issues, but real leaders and managers.....and head coaches say, "Ok, here is the issue, it is because of this.....and these are the specific actions we are taking to remedy it.

The poor managers and head coaches keep recycling the same issues, problems and excuses but never take action or change anything specifically. They keep hoping the same process will lead to different results. That is what I am afraid we have with Stoops.

What bothered me was Leach and Stoops laughing like this guy was some sort of crank.

He spoke truth passionately.

I hope he actually didn't say that. How in all that is holy can he be happy with the special teams?

Probably because we've gone from last to third to last in the country in offensive starting field position. I'm sure he gets a bonus for that.

Kudos to Dale & for Stoops letting him talk

Kudos really? He gets paid millions of dollars to listen to that. He's doing nothing more than fulfilling a legal obligation. He has a pre existing duty to listen to it.

Replay with video (which makes the call even more interesting) can be found here.

Dale begins at the 18:45 mark.
Thanks for that 18:45 time stamp, appreciate it!

Every time I listen to Stoops talk, such as post-game press conferences and this link, I become less and less convinced that he is the man to be head football coach at the University of Kentucky.

In addition to casually crapping on Rich Brooks (and every other coach at UK), the guy is one big, easy excuse machine. Does it really take 6 years of Top 20 recruiting classes to perform like you know what the **** you are doing against Lafayette, EKU and Vanderbilt? Really?

How about the coach learn a phrase like "in the meantime", for use during his no fault 6 years of recruiting (after which he will finally be out of excuses). A use for this phrase might be, "I need 6 years of Top 20 recruiting classes before I can be expected to compete against good competition, but in the meantime we will go out every week well-coached, well-prepared, and fired up and ready to hit somebody. The coaches will take care of business with the players we have against teams like Lafayette, EKU and Vanderbilt."

Bottom line: this guy could not coach his way out of a wet paper bag right now. God help us if he never learns how before his recruiting excuses have run out. And as for that recruiting, what the heck are recruiting classes 4-6 being sold to come here? A prestigious bowl game? Player development to move to the next level?

Another caller asked why we went away from Hyde as a FB in short yardage situations. Stoops said that Hyde had done some good things and the staff needs to revisit what was working. REALLY? UK had 8 downs with the football from the 2 and 1 yard lines. You can't find a way to punch the ball in?

I really want Stoops to be successful, but I am not buying into the mess he is running over at Nutter anymore. I firmly believe he is in over his head and frankly does not know what it will take to fix this situation. I have seen so many failed coaches who were saying the same things he is saying now. Its easy to talk which this program has been great at the last 3 years, but its another to execute. Its not FSU where you can go get a bunch of 4 and 5 star talent to hide your coaching mistakes and play in a crappy conference.

The next two games will tell us a lot about the character of this program. I am praying the team and staff can show us something and get to a bowl game. KY Football is in a seriously bad spot right now where it is close to completely spiraling out of control. The good news is the recruits still seem to be on board. That is our only saving grace and just have to hope the right moves are made in the offseason to right the ship.

I did not hear the call, but the passionate KY Football fans are beyond pissed off and many are losing all faith this program will ever compete in the SEC. Stoops has already lost the casual fans and is starting to lose the hardcore fanbase. If or when he loses them then we are right back to the Joker/Vandy game situation and the program is set back another 5-10 years.

A previous caller had asked Stoops why it was taking so long to get results. Stoops said it was tough to build in this league and especially tough when Kentucky has played bad football for 50 years.

It sounded like that was what pissed Dale off, as he immediately said that we played pretty good football under Brooks. I don't remember there being a specific complaint that he had, just ranting in general.

We have actually had moments of non losing football. Some of the Curci years. We played good football at times under Claiborne. Claiborne was 41-46 and I think most reasonable UK fans would give him a pass for the 0-10-1 first year because he redshirted everyone. After that he was 41-36. It was mediocre football but it wasn't losing football. Billy Curry was just a dud and he set the program back. Hal Mumme energized the state and the fan base but that stupid assistant coach derailed what was looking to be a decent football era. Guys Morris was 7-5 our last year of probation. We played decent football at times under Brooks, then we got Joked. So Stoops was way off base and not fair by saying we have had 50 years of losing football.

I can live with the every loss this year but not that debacle in Nashville. They bungled the QB position that game, special teams, play calling, etc...it was a game where the coaching staff could have coached us to a victory and they didn't. The next two games are huge for the future of Stoops at KY.

clicking on the link I cant find anything where to listen to it. Is there somewhere else on that link to click to listen to the show.

There will be a video square a little bit down the screen. You can hit the tiny PLAY button (small triangle) on the bottom left hand side of that video square. Hope that helps.

If he can't do better with the questions then it's time we let him go.

He cost us the Vandy game and his staff is a joke. We need to turn up the heat, that won't stand.

Get it in gear or get out!

I do think Stoops made a valid comment on the special teams coordinator question.
We had a ST coach the last 2 seasons and we weren't very good then. Its not a magical solve to roll out Peveto or Naviar again and expecting great results.

I think sound special teams play is a reflection of the head coach. In year 3 its clear that one our biggest issues is being fundamentally sound and clean in games. We can control mental errors and we make so many its laughable. To me, that's a reflection of the leadership. Deep into year 3 it should not be that way.

Our ST play is every bit as bad as out offensive play and a ST coordinator is likely to solve the big issue.

Bottom line: this guy could not coach his way out of a wet paper bag right now.

This says it all.. Fundamentals are missing. Disorganization is rampant. Discord in the ranks and among the coaches. All falls on Stoops' head and shoulders. He may have been a good DC but he is in way over his head as HC. Obviously doesn't know how or won't manage his coordinators and assistants.
