This years WWS team beats last years team by 3TDs. They are the most under rated team in the area.
Any word on how this battled scoreless for four quarters? LWC and Lockport games have always been battles, but no scoring?

WIU, it was a tight defensive field position type battle the entire night. Three yards and a cloud of turf pebbles.

The first time LWC got into the red zone, they kicked a field goal. The first time Lockport got into the red zone they scored an touchtown. Both was in overtime when the ball was set at the 10 yard line.

Surprising we’re both defensives that good or were the offenses bad? In your opinion how would you rate these teams?

I think that both offenses need some work especially in the passing game but both teams played hard. The defenses stepped up and both played well

One wonders how much the recently "resigned" LWC AD (who came over from LWN when it closed) was involved with keeping Cordell over going with Czart at that time some 4 years ago?

I am sure he had nothing to do with any incident with the current AD or his own hiring.

The point being is Czart was without question the proven program builder with 3 state championship rings and steller HOF recommendations. How Cordell was hired before Czart is beyond my simplistic mind.

The Outfit you obviously have a relationship with George. He is a great guy and the decision was based on Cordell having one year under his belt after the prior hall of fame coach and AD at LWC had alienated everyone at Central and departed due to health concerns with his parents , contributing to the debacle just prior to a new school years start. Back to Coach Czart and the win last night...you have a 7A school losing to a large 8A program in OT after a scoreless 4 quarters. LP has one of the largest student bodies in 8A. I believe it is too early to start a political fracas over the outcome of a single game. I like BOTH hires and either way I am more upset....because Coach Czart is a tremendous, outstanding classroom instructor in Math. Lockport will take time and it will be great to see them as an 8A powerhouse again...but the road is long. Good luck to both LWC and the Porters going forward.

I really enjoy reading posts about Czart from LW folk always acting like the guy walks on water yet when LWN choked away a victory by not taking a knee against WWS in 2014 the same folk couldn’t fire the guy fast enough.

my observations come from a team that hasnt won a meaningful game in years. From the current head coach at Lockport being passed over for after literally built the program at North from the ground up for someone who obviously has some plus sides to his credentials but NOT like Czart does.

LWC, as much as it pains me to admit it, has had some recent successes in the state playoffs, losing to Lockport is one no one saw coming. Me included.

As far as him walking on water- so easy to second guess things. I am sure there were reasons why they didnt take a knee. I dont know enough about the situation nor see the relevance to dig it all up. The current HC at Lockport has had many great victories on and off the field concerning kids than a solitary blunder Vs. WWS.

I am I LW fan and I don’t think he does. I am still wondering what the big deal is with this game? The score alone tells you the game was struggle for both teams and I am not sure either of them are a concern for any of the top teams. Offense on both teams need a lot of work and I am not sure either team has a good defense. Maybe they were both just bad on offense that it makes the defense look good. Anyway they both play East before the end of the regular season let’s see how they stack up. If they can go toe to toe with East then we can talk.

East has bigger fish to fry at the Brook! No pun intended. Lol

Outfit..There also must have been a reason Lockport let Coach Czart go to LWN to begin with? Coach Czart was moved to LW West after the North HC gig and school closing. Coach Cordell was already in place at LWC so it was not a simple hire for the Central position. As stated at the time with this same debate the Phoenix faithful at LW North were calling for his head. ClownBaby nailed it. How can you really come down on this situation when two quality coaches face off in an OT game, when the outcome hung by a thread? Both Coaches deserve the respect they have earned in programs they have been associated with...nothing more needs to be stated about their paths to today.

WIU- Czart left when Kooi left with the intent of taking over a new program that he would be w me to grown from the ground up... Kooi and Czart Having been college teammates they were a package deal as close as they came while at LO.

Czart always wanted to be an HC and was hired as an assistant at LW with intent he was going to be the hire at North. He coached the North team as Frosh & sophs. KudoS to LW to having the forsight to bring a guy they wanted in 3 years early to let him do it his way.

Czart chose West after not being hired @ Central. Obviously having history with Ernst and Gliemi made that easy. Per my recollection All HC’s had to interview for jobs of their choice. Czart was odd man out per hiring decision.

Your opinion, while respected, is yours. I respectfully disagree with your assumption their both quality coaches having seen examples of both their scouting reports, teams play, practice , and most importantly deal with kids on multiple occasions.

As far as their paths the win and loss I think shows the direction of both programs

Am I an expert hardly. Can I have an opinion as you have? I should hope.

I am sorry the goal to “lead the state in high 5’s and chest bumps” while very positive- isn’t a goal that will help your team win games in overtime!

Thank you The Outfit for your opinion. The interview process was a union formality for all with the closing of North. Thank you also for showing your alliance and bias with your comments regarding Coach Cordell and his techniques, and staying old school with your opinions on process. I am an older follower of HS football and have managed to allow myself the opportunity to move forward with critical thinking regarding the importance of the men leading our youth today. For all it’s worth I respect BOTH the coaches that played to a scoreless tie in regulation and look forward to seeing the progress of the student athletes for LP and LWC. To draw conclusions that you have regarding a hiring, based on a “showed them attitude” over a 4 point win in OT, week three, also uncovered your mission. Now I am going to enjoy my morning exercise, allowing myself to hydrate during the process, which was not an option during my playing days, and be thankful we have coaches in this day and age that make a difference with our students. Times change my friend and looking forward is a gift. Now, can you find some refs for the sport?

Now ... back to the actual game from Friday night. It was largely played between the 30-yard lines, because both teams appeared to be evenly-matched physically. LWC probably had the edge in time of possession and total offense. Neither had a player(s) too much bigger, faster or stronger to turn the tide one way or the other. LWC had a chance early on with a FG attempt from 30 yards out from a hash that missed. Late in the game LP had a pitch pass deep into LWC territory that was called back. The special teams were evenly competent to disallow any big plays in that area. LWC defense sends pressure in multiple ways where Lockport gambles less, but played soundly. When the LWC running game was able to turn N/S, chunk plays did not occur and throwing is really not their strong suit. LP had limited success running between the tackles, not the speed to get outside and the passing game just did not have the separation or accuracy with consistency. This game just became a new bitter rivalry IMO.

CB, think most of those people are gone now since that was 5 years ago.
Czart has a good record and has done a good job so far when he has been head coach.

Here is why I don’t get the critique of Cordell vs. Czart. Throw out the first year in the programs. Czart was 0-9, Cordell 4-5 coming after Venerable left. Cordell .696 with all 3 years in the playoffs. Czart .729 with 6 of 7 years in the playoffs. Other than 15-16 when LWN was 11-1..all about even. Different approaches to the game, Wide gap in age, and now you look at LP with 3700 kids to LWC at 2100...a 75% difference. BOTH good coaches by most standards. I hope they both perform well as the season develops but this one game was not a reason for the critique of LWC or district coaching choices in my opinion when you weigh the factors. Has Zvonar ruined it for the SW districts?

Reading in the Patch...Lockport 134 yards of total offense. LWC at 205. Not much needs to be said if this is true.

i totally agree with you WIU!! Czart, regardless of offensive output, found a way to win. That's how I read your stats.

Talked to a LWC parent this AM and the feeling at Central is bleak. Hoping a win against WEST saves face and puts the Lockport debacle in the distant past.

West and Central have HUGE games tonight. Neither can get caught looking ahead to the night LW shuts down for the annual showdown.

Just curious The Outfit, did you talk with the parents of the young man who quit the LWC team just before the Lockport game over playing time after 2 games?
