The only schools with more 8A championships than Lockport are Loyola and Maine South. That's it. Not LWE, not Mt Carmel, not Wheaton South, not either Naperville school. Loyola with 5 and Maine South with 4. Lockport, the only public school in recent history that I've seen manhandle Loyola. Lockport, a defending 2025 semi-finalist hailing from the top public conference in the state which is a week in week out gauntlet. We're talking about a program that on top of that grueling conference that includes not one, not two, but three Lincoln Ways on the schedule decided to add 7A powerhouse Glenbard West and 8A powerhouse Naperville Central. We're talking about a Porters team that played Glenbard West to a 1 score game. You know who else played GBW to a 1 score game? The defending 7A runners-up St. Rita of the much ballyhooed CCL. We're discussing a Porters team that has won 6 of their last 7 games and that 1 loss was to a team that is ranked #1 in the Chicago area and #2 in the state, so what are we actually talking about?

I got a chance to view these Porters 3x including a dominant performance against LWW and Stevie Patriots, much like Bears (either current or 85) they took the Patriots behind the woodshed. One word to describe them: Big and Physical. One word can't do it. Who is that monster on the DL #99? I saw WR's with speed to burn and a QB with the arm to get it to them. In their 6 wins the Porter D has posted three shutouts and held a tremendous LWW team to 15 points.

And we have to address the elephant in the room. H-F which defeated Bolingbrook by 31 points was a 31 point loser to LWE. Lockport was a 40 point loser to LWE. So that means H-F is 9 points better than Lockport. Thus the Porters should be 3 TD favorites come Friday night.

Can’t be!

The same Lockport that lost to 7A Glenbard West - who lost to York - who lost convincingly to a 6A CCL team with a losing record (4-5)?

Massey got their mistake fixed and changed their prediction, but those in the know still understand Lockport to be the huge overdogs.

@Edgytim has some interesting things to say about this matchup over on the other side. Is edgy the source behind Massey and Maxpreps
The Porters certainly can beat Da Brook but it will take a near flawless game from Lockport and the Brook to make mistakes, which according to Bones, is a historical issue on ST.

Lockport plays good assignment football on D so they will make you put drives together. On O their QB is pretty good, good group of WRs, RB doesn't stand out to me and OL is above average.

Porters need to come out of the gate quick and get them on their heals. I expect Brook to win by 10-14.

Id say talent levels. Of these programs Lockport does more with less. I dont even remember a single name from the '21 team, they just played well. They are the definition of coached up.

They have really good HS football players most years and not a ton of high level college talent. You can do a lot of damage with really good HS football players.

The only consistent special teams issue this season has been XPs/FGs. However, in week 9 they went 6/6 on XPs and 1/1 on FGs and a drastic improvement from the prior week. Otherwise I give the S/T this season a B. Which to me says they did what they were supposed to do. We were better at returning punts/kicks for TDs last season, but also more likely to muff or fumble. S/T got a D-/F last year.

Then how would you account for the difference in the typical LTHS season and the championship years? I agree that you can do a lot of damage with really good HS players.

I cannot really go back to the champ years. The B2B they did have high level talent at least at QB.
Injuries, path to Semi/Championship game varies year to year, sometimes you get good match ups, talent level is always different year to year...etc

I'll just add, with a school the size of Lockport, you expect them to be good so often, right? Like at least now and again as they are. But then again... Stevenson, you know I'm talking about you! :ROFLMAO: Lyons, Aurora East, New Trier, Cicero Morton, Waukegan... we see you also, bummin' it up! ;) JK, I know a couple these teams have titles in the "modern era" I think...

A deeper dive at the "path to semi/championship game" part from SiuCubFan8... mostly because I like this stuff and now I'm curious...
