I'll take your word for it. All I know is he has 0 ncaa tournament wins n 9 seasons and has lost to a double digit seed n the first round twice.

I think he will do fine here though but the above monkey needs to be gone by seasons end. He has to win at least 1 ncaa game this season or people are gonna be ending their honey moon.

We DON'T have enough great players YET.

Coach Pope will bring in BETTER players that can run his system more efficiently because they will be MORE talented than this group. He put this team together in about 2 months. This coupled with the fact that the SEC is better than it EVER has been this season and you get what we saw today.

The more tape teams get on this team, the more opposing coaches can STOP what you do best, especially when your players aren't MORE talented than their opponents. That will change when Coach Pope gets better recruits.

It's SUCKS now, but I'm not getting too caught up in this team's success or lack there of right now. Heck, this team has PROVEN they can beat great teams, just not consistently. Hope they can get on track. It's not impossible.

Pope gets a pass at least for this year from me. I’m gonna give him time to settle in here before I lose my patience with him.

Vandy is not more talented than this team.

They were, however, better coached and gave more effort consistently.

And that should be worrisome.

He can start by playing Garrison a lot more than he's playing now. Aside from Oweh, Garrison is probably our most talented player with arguably the highest ceiling on the team. But the kid needs to be on the court in order to develop like he needs to. However, we keep seeing this Amari kid soak up all the minutes while trying to run the entire offense from the top of the key. Didn't we see the same exact thing from Cal in which people bashed him for non-stop?

Start Garrison and play Williams less may light a fire under Williams or he may just disappear, but we need to find out

We had too many turnovers today and the worst ones were at the end of the game. Vandy played very good and were at home. We were missing our starting PF.

Vandy may not be more talented, but they are NOT less talented than we are. They made plays and we didn't. But, like I said in my previous post, this group is NOT talented enough to play recklessly and win, especially on the road. Vandy is MUCH better in that CRAPPY gym.

Give him time and he will PROVE how much better his system will run with a roster upgrade.

And VANDY is no slouch.

I’ve followed Pope’s entire career at Utah State and BYU but I saw more games when he was at BYU and we play exactly the same way as they did.

as I said in another comment his BYU teams could all shoot and pass and look pretty on O but they were always soft.

I respect his basketball mind and that’s his greatest asset. But in my estimation he is not the type of coach who instills toughness or holds players consistently accountable on things like effort.

And this is not the WCC.

That was the point lol. We can beat the good teams but are struggling against the not so good ones.

And a lack of talent had absolutely nothing to do with losing this game against Vandy.

And I'd be just fine if he disappeared, in fact I think that's exactly what he would do if Garrison took his playing time. The guy is a big crybaby when things don't go his way in a game.

So, do you NOT believe that Coach Pope can recruit a MUCH better roster at UK than he did at Utah St AND BYU?????

I CERTAINLY do!!!

He had basically 2 months to put this team together and has MORE top 15 wins than ANY other team in the country!!!

Did he do that at BYU?????

Starting next season, UK will be MUCH better and will be able to bring in TOP talent because his style is so appealing to players.

He's too nice, you can't sugarcoat everything and tell the players they're great when they aren't.
He's going to have to becone a tougher minded coach, that nice guy stuff is good if you want to be their buddies later on, but it's not good if you want your team to be tougher.

Didn't say we did. But to CONSISTENTLY win in this league now, you MUST have better talent. Right now we have a team that was thrown together in 2 months and is STILL learning how to overcome some GLARING deficiencies. Hope they can figure it out.

Yeah, I get losing @ Auburn, @ Alabama and @ Tennessee, but we have more talent thn Vandy, UGA and Ohio State.
