Looking almost certain

Looking almost certain now that there will be no announcement until after the Iowa game. Only a week away so it would make no sense at this point to announce before then. And Trev said that his timeline is to have a coach before the early signing day and transfer portal timeline. The interesting thing will be if no announcement is made on the Monday after the Iowa game. If not, it might be a bad sign.

Unfortunately for us, I think that if you did have a splash hire on the hook you would want to announce it ASAP in order to have your recruiting in a high gear.

My guess is the next guy here isn't going to move many needles on his name alone.

I hope they're youngish and can really develop. It's going to be an uphill battle for any coach who can't recruit.

Apathy might not be a thing for those who've seen those championship teams, but the younger generation might not be as interested in an Iowa type program even if it has Nebraska as it's name, however I've seen a lot of people talking about raking leaves in lieu of watching Nebraska catch L's.

No inside info. but IMO, the deal is done for whoever it is going to be. Trev has had a lot more time than is usual to get this done. I just hope he spent the time wisely. But it just makes little sense at this point to announce it before the end of the season.

I don’t see panic on trevs face or hear it in his voice, tells me he got his guy already. The new coach may not wow us but who wouldn’t be excited to watch a FB team next fall that comes out fundamentally sound and can play to its own talent level.

I read Trev's interview it didn't leave me feeling confident......he sounded and alluded to being cheap.

I feel like Trev is doing this on purpose. Let's a few leaks fly each Sunday to get the base revved up again only to come crashing down. I'm starting to get to the point of I don't give a ****. Outside of trying to keep it under wraps for an existing coach there is no reason to not announce it outside of we are just striking out. Just sucks how far NU has fallen and I really don't have all that much trust in Trev or our admin as a whole. Because I said that he will probably make a homerun hire or the perceived ****** hire will do well.

I wouldn't doubt that the administration is responsible for instigating a few diversionary rumors. After all the best way to disguise or hide what's really going on is to spread some disinformation to create confusion and get people to follow false leads. The more false leads out there, the better for hiding what's going on.

100%, but Nebraska has just been a clown show for so long. Enough with the drama. Just ****** get someone in place and let's try to not **** it up anymore. If we hire someone who is already a current head coach and it took this long to announce it that is just more egg on Trev's face. I hope he shuts me up and produces with a big name. If that is the case I will kiss his *** again and take back my comments.

I really thought we would have our guy by the Monday following Thanksgiving but I had forgotten about the conference championship games. Funny how that happens when you haven’t played in one of those in a decade

I’ve heard that rumor a few times now. It does worry me a little bit. But I keep telling myself that a guy consumed with frugality doesn’t spend 7.5 million to fire Scott Frost instead of waiting two more weeks.

A cheap hire might have just as high of a probability of success as an expensive one. I’m not advocating for that and I believe Trev wants a proven guy, BUT I don’t believe Tressel was an expensive hire. I just don’t see a guy like that out there in the MAC or Sunbelt.

I believe it's Rhule and it is not being announced until the season's over out of respect for MJ.
I also believe it's Rhule because we have not heard any denials about the rumors from his camp in the last several weeks. Patterson and Dion have spoken up to quell the speculation but not Rhule.

Yep, my gut is saying Rhule as well and for the same reason. But who really knows?

Rhule doesn’t have a reason to quell the rumor. The other guys are still coaching. The more his name gets brought up the better for Rhule.

He’s the only guy that we’re certain has gotten a stadium tour. When you get to that point you know there’s serious interest from both parties. Lots of heavy petting but no consummation of the relationship yet…..

Biggest hesitation on Rhule is he just got millions of $$$ from Carolina. Why on earth would he be looking to jump back into football. Let alone at a challenging rebuild?

No shortage of conspiracy theories on the new coaching hire for sure.

1. Why wait IF the person is not currently employed? They can get a start on recruiting, organization, etc. Let Mickey, if it is not him, complete the year.

2. It does make sense if the person is still coaching somewhere and his team is in contention which would seem like a no brainer. Then of course, you have all the drama of the bowl game, does he stay or not like with Frost.

3. I don't think Trev is playing cheap or any games. He has been up front from the start, he has apparently spoken with lots of people and he said money wouldn't be an issue but they didn't want to overpay as well, who does?

4. In the bigger scheme of things, I am not sure any of it matters to our overall fan base. Sides have been taken, Trev is already either a goat (not GOAT) or a hero. There will be plenty of criticism of him no matter what happens. No way I would want to be in his shoes and anyone who says they would is clueless.

My opinions of course, as always.

I think a candidate that doesn’t require a buyout is going to be preferred and obviously easier to attract

I've seen nothing to make it certain that he's had a stadium tour.

I think he is content in Cinncy. He is going to be in the Big12 where he can compete for titles on a regular basis.
that would be a win..I'm not sure day is leaveing fickles dream job anytime soon. and you have to repect a guy that can get a g5 into the playoff
