They need to stop hurting the game with these type of rule changes all under the false pretense of ‘speeding up the game’. You want to speed up the game? Stop with all the damn tv timeouts that seem to get longer and longer each year.

7pm game doesn’t really start until 7:25 because we have to have ESPN, CBS, NBC etc spend 20 minutes telling us what to expect and discussing other games from the day, (or who should be in the playoff instead of team X because of some stupid ‘eye test’). Then we go to 5 minutes of commercials.

Then we come back and have kickoff and the return. Then we’re back to 5 minutes of commercials.

Then we watch team Y go 3 and out and we’re off to 5 more minutes of commercials.

The people in charge of this sport can be so stupid at times. They will kill the goose with the golden eggs before they’re done.

Not going to lie. I was going to vent with a reply, but you pretty much hit every point I would have made. Well done.
May I add, find a TV time out schedule similar to basketball. Set times that we go sell pickups.

Stopping the clock after 1st downs is foolish to start. I'm on board with this change.

Also, people want to ***** about all the commercials, but also want to be able to see as many games as possible on tv. You have to pay for tv coverage somehow.

I'll get off your collective lawns now.

So you are good with fewer plays in a game?

I have to laugh at whatever reason they came up with to keep it for the last two minutes of the half. It's like saying personal fouls within the last two minutes will now be 20 yard penalties but before then they are 10 yard penalties. What's so magical about 2 minutes that we need to play by new rules?

What did everyone expect? When the game and commercials are competing for air time, you know who’s going to win that one. Frankly though I’m at my saturation point. I already have too many cars, insurance policies, sporting equipment shoes and soft drink cans and bottles. They should start running some NIL contribution campaign adds during the game with a running ticker to see whose leading for this year’s crop of 5*’s.

With all the changes to college football lately, this is the least I would find to complain about. Thankfully, it will still stop in the final two minutes of each half when time-saving matters most.

So after an “explosive” play, the player needs to remember not to celebrate but rather run back to the subsequent huddle and act like they’ve done this before.

Joe might like this rule. 👍

The more I think about this, the more pissed off I’m getting about it.

There is one silver lining in this change: this will allow for more upsets. The clock stoppage decreases the number of plays. The greater the talent difference, the greater number of plays, the more likely the more talented team wins. This will be the biggest outcome of this rule change.

You guys know the clock stops for like 2-3 seconds to set the ball and then the clock rolls again anyway? It’s more aligning with NFL clock rules and nobody complains about lack of plays in those games.

Not on longer first downs made. They have to "move the chains". They estimate this will shorten games by 15 minutes plus. That is a lot more than 2-3 seconds per first down.

They can then easily add twenty 30-second commercials without making the game experience longer. Win-win! 🤪

Works for NFL.
Personally, as someone who doesn’t watch the NFL much and strongly prefers college, it’s very noticeable the ration between amount of football plays compared to commercial time in the NFL. it’s not as great in college compared to the past but it’s better than the pros. This trends it even more in the wrong direction (on top of the OOB change a few years ago).
