So, many are anticipating us losing, in total...

Jeter
Bolden
Giles
Obi
Jefferson
Jackson
Allen
Kennard
Jones

So our top nine guys in total minutes played, and Obi. Roughly 260 TOTAL minutes played will be returning, and that includes walk ons. Only roughly 70 points TOTAL scored by the guys who are left

Has any Duke team lost so many guys? Have many teams EVER lost that many? Maybe a few of Cal's UK teams?

This would be pretty damn stunning.

None of this should be a surprise right? You can take out Jackson from that list. No clue who is making some of these statements.
It is what it is, it is hard to be a college basketball fan when you don't see guys for multiple years and then you throw in roster turnover like we will see at Duke. On the Jackson statement in my opinion where there is smoke there is a little fire. There have been more than a few statements on the board about his dad and then about him looking into the draft. The way things are going, nothing would surprise me.

If we can lose in the 2nd round with them, we sure as hell can lose in the 2nd round without them. K knew this was coming, there's a plan. This isn't 1999 when OAD's were rare. K didn't win 5 national titles & three Gold Medals by mismanagement!

Looking forward to 2017-18 roster.

Him leaving Duke would stun me beyond belief I'll leave it at that.

Look coming into this year what did we think would happen?
Amile and Matt graduate (so does Grayson)
Tatum, Giles and Bolden are OAD

4 of those 6 have happened as expected thus far.

Luke played so damn well that in addition to landing on All American team after All American team, he is in the first round of the draft. They were drooling over him during the Duke pro day back in October.

Jeter leaves to transfer- as ****** as it is, it's hardly a shock.

This isn't and hasn't been typical for Duke, this year as it has been from the beginning is one we haven't seen as fans, at least in my lifetime.

I missed Allen, Bolden and Jackson's announcement. Sorry to hear they are gone. Wish all of them the best. OFC

What's next? Some poster will say DeLaurier will be leaving as well? How about that Carter or Trent are not coming to Duke or something? Sheesh

You didn't miss anything. That's why I said "many are anticipating us to lose." A number of people here and on other forums, folks who generally seem to know, have said there will be more guys leaving. Maybe it won't happen, that's why I said "many are anticipating" and not "we are losing."

I do notice you said "both" of them. So, which guy are you NOT wishing the best?:)

So the lineup, if Duke loses everyone and gets the players rumored, could be:

Duval
Trent Jr.
Knox
DeLauier
Carter

With White, Vrankovic, O'Connell and Robinson off the bench.

Seems like things could be a lot worse... if even 1 or 2 guys stay, that's a terrific roster
That line-up would be talented but would lose a lot of games with no experienced leadership.

if the lineup is

duval
trent jr
knox
delaurier
carter jr

how many are leaving then? potentially duval, trent jr, knox and carter jr - not as bad as the potential for leaving as this year, but it feels like thats the way of the immediate future - and also too far off to think about

I love this post. The team lost in the second round. Whatever players are here next year can improve over the course of the season and lose in the second round. I wish those guys all the best going forward but if you don't want to be at Duke, have a nice life! I'll be rooting for the guys who want to wear the uniform next year. With any luck, next year's team will care about defense more than this year's team did.

If we sign Duval and Knox - and then retain the services for Jackson, we are a top 10 team. I feel pretty good about all three of these guys, to be honest. If we then keep Grayson Allen for one more year, we are a top 5 team. We'll be okay. Obviously we won't have the same expectations next year, but we'll be a tough team.

Exactly. I'm not worried. People I respect feel good about keeping Jackson and landing Duval and Knox. That group, should it come to fruition, and Wendell Carter as a starting point most teams would envy. Add Delaurier, Vrank, Trent and company and Duke is tough. Keeping Allen or Kennard or even Bolden would put it over the top, but things should be just fine however it shakes out.

I don't like this stuff at all...

How many OAD are playing in the Final Four?

It's not the way to sustain excellence in a program...IMO

We are consistently becoming a first weekend exit from the tourney...

I don't care how talented a freshmen is coming in anymore or how many...

This is becoming rinse and repeat year to year...and most every year we bow out and don't even watch the second weekend of the tournament with Duke in it...

I know others feel differently....it's just how I feel about it....

We just won a ship in 2015, what else do you want from coach?

i think getting duval is the key for next year, and getting great point guards in the future is really the key if you consider the point guards and the success since duke players started leaving early for the nba ...

1999 - william avery - runner up
2000-2002 - jason williams - 2 sweet sixteens and 1 champ
2003-2004 - chris duhon - sweet sixteen and final four
2005 - daniel ewing - sweet sixteen (i thought they overachieved, supposed to have livingston)
2006-2009 - greg paulus - 2 sweet sixteens, 1 2nd round and 1 1st round loss (yikes)
2010 - scheyer - champs
2011 - kyrie and nolan - sweet sixteen (the lost year, to me anyway)
2012 & 2014 - tyler thornton - 2 1st round losses (tyler started more games than quinn both years)
2013 - quinn cook - elite eight
2015 - tyus jones - champs
2016 - derryck thornton - sweet sixteen
2017 - frank jackson? matt jones? grayson allen? - 2nd round

i know duke underachieved in some of the years (especially in the early 00s getting 1 seeds and losing in the sweet sixteen), but the non-paulus, non-tyler thornton, and forgetting this year since i don't think we really had a point guard until the acc tournament, things look pretty good in general

6 sweet sixteens
1 elite eight
1 final four
1 runner up
3 champs

just my .02 cents

It's crazy how much more weight an early tourney exit carries opposed to TWO, TWO champs in the last 7 years!!!!! The game has changed, times have changed. I would LOVE to have all these guys 3-4 years like the old days, but it's simply not the way it works anymore. Everybody freaking out needs to remember we still have K! I'd be very scared if we lost him, until then, the more adversity..... the more success I expect. K is going to be hungry next season.

This past season was not an epic disaster, it wasn't! The groom and develope programs don't have the standards Duke does. The great majority of those fan bases majorly celebrate a few sweet sixteens strung together.

"Losing nearly everyone..."

Except THR's Gary. He's definitely returning for at least one more season I hear. His Stats 'N' Stuff is getting an upgrade in the offseason. Pics and bar graphs will be added so that the posters over there can finally understand what in the world he's saying for all those paragraphs.

Wow--is this a Duke board or predictions of demise of the Duke program on a UK or UNC board? Our coach goes after the best players each year. Sometimes it doesn't work out perfectly. How many teams have done as well as Duke in the past 10 years? Duke is safely in the NCAA tournament every year, is mentioned as one of a handful of teams competing for the championship, sometimes under achieves and sometimes wins the whole thing! That seems pretty good to me.

Criticism is one thing, but giving up on the program in late March, that's an attitude for a different board with a less proven coach and program. Sorry that's how I feel.

It really would not hurt if Duke cleaned house. Good Luck Luke, Grayson, and Bolden.

Let's start over...
