It appeared he couldn’t walk. He’s been doing a podcast and it was evident his health had been declining. He was on Syvell Newton’s podcast during the summer and it was really fun to go back and hear his perspective on things back when he was our coach, especially the things he wishes he would have done differently. Listening to that I figured we’d be saying goodbye to him sooner or later.

Without Lou we never get Steve Spurrier. Lou basically recruited him after UNC and Florida passed on hiring Spurrier. Things aren’t always great for SC Football, but it’s scary to think where we’d be without Lou Holtz. YouTube recommended the 1999 Opener against NC State to me just this past weekend. I watched the first few minutes of it and it was ALL about Lou. This was even with NC State coming off a win against Texas the week before, and playing in a hurricane.

Forever grateful for Lou Holtz! Loved his support of us on Gameday Final back when he was ok with Mark May.

FWIW, I am seeing the rumors aren’t true. Who knows? Regardless, my feelings for Coach are the same.

He had a wreck in 2025 that severely injured one of his legs and accounts for much of the mobility issues observed lately. But he's 89, there can't be much juice left in the lemon. He did have prostrate cancer several years ago, supposedly successfully treated. Google's AI search isn't showing a current illness.

The reality is Lou is conservative and a Trump supporter so there would be little to no coverage if he was in hospice anyway. Prime example: the press-mainly ESPN-years ago used to always portray Bobby Knight as a character building, tough love style, in your face, championship coaching legend. He was on tv all the time after retiring because they loved his bluntness (Lou was too). But after Knight showed public support for Trump he was hardly ever mentioned again or given interviews. When Knight died, it got little to no coverage. They'll do the same to Lou. If Lou was a public Obama/Biden supporter every outlet would be covering his health status including People magazine.

Is your tinfoil hat firmly secured? Tom Brady is a Trump supporter and no athlete has gotten more coverage over the last ten years than Tom Brady.

First of all, he's right......

Second of all, it's kinda hard to ignore Tom Brady...... it's much easier to ignore an almost 90 year old coach that hasn't coached in decade or so.

The man who brought South Carolina football back from the dead!
He is perhaps the best "Mr. Fix It" coach in the history of college football. He took over 6 struggling programs and took them all to bowls by his 2nd year.

In his second year.... :)

I do remember the way he could build up the opposing team to be a world beater the week before we played them.
That first year was incredible. We started SIX different players at QB. That’s in an 11 game schedule. Our defense was actually pretty dang good…we just could not score points. Like, at all.

Lou was committed to putting his system in and in the end, it worked out. Always hated that 99 team didn’t get at least 1 win. It was cool for those guys over the next 2 seasons though.

There's a smattering of info out there on the googler about it to back up my claims but I wasn't able to find any articles that you didn't have to jump through hoops to read, so, no link.

Prayers for Lou and family.
I have always loved Lou and still do to this day.
