holy crap, we are in the running to host the entire NBA playoffs!!! that'd be cool!

"That postseason could be played in one city so as to avoid the issues that come with traveling during this pandemic. A number of non-NBA regions, including Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Hawaii, Louisville and the Bahamas, have been discussed. One NBA city was listed by Berman as a possibility: Orlando. The Magic would be the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference if the season were to end today, giving them theoretical home-court advantage so long as they remained alive."

I’m not an NBA fan but geez it would be nice to have a lot of the country focused positively on our city.

Well I “get it” but how would the USA viewing an almost totally empty YUM! Center be a positive. I guess I just don’t see it the same way.

The word Louisville being said over and over is worth tens of millions in media exposure. And the ratings would be huge because people are so sports starved.

This would be great exposure for the city and for the University, not to mention the revenue which the area will be in desperate need of. I for one hope it happens.

factor in a few months more of development of the 5-15 minutes virus test and you can conceivably allow crowds by then where everyone is tested before entering. you're talking end of june at the earliest. maybe not but if the city remains flat on the curve i could see people in the stands. even if only locals and no one else comes across border.

and even if you hate the nba, it's more about the local economy and possible future events coming here if we put it on right. even if only nba teams come and no fans it's also a possible interview of receiving a future team. and enough hotels restaurants and bars will benefits and locals will go out hoping to run into players. would jsut be a boon for the city and like cue and others said, the exposure both nationally and worldwide woudl be astronomical

Why would Louisville or these other cities be listed as possible sites? They don’t have NBA teams are they trying to do a litmus test to see about future expansion? Screw the NBA let them host it in an NBA city.

If this “NBA” thing becomes a reality I’d be shocked, SHOCKED, if Vegas wasn’t chosen. They are much closer to being on the NBA short list than Louisville is. And that’s regardless of what the so called experts AND Dan Issel think. Yes, we have the arena and the basketball history (Colonels) but we do not have the population density for success.

They just want a neutral site so it seems fair...

It’s funny everybody else is canceling events because of the virus why would we host an event. They just canceled the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament which is held in July.

Pretty sure nothing would happen until the all clear was given regarding this virus. All of this may just be wishful thinking. We'll see.

the nba won;t restart without guarantees of no spread. no dates set yet but i'd guess things have to be under control. they are nto going to travel under no travel restrictions. everything would have to be lifted

it's more to do with cities that were proactive in social distancing. cities mentioned are low on radar of outbreaks meaning mroe control for everyone. vegas shut down everything weeks ago jsut like here in KY. everythign i read before says it's simply a matter of going to a city where the virus spread was minimal. and in palces where the arena was not being used and could be islated

You’re not even considering that some of the players will not even participate. There is already a few that said they won’t play even if the season were to commence. Life is more important than a game for the entertainment of others.

While the rest of the world is canceling large events yeah that’s what I want in Louisville. New Orleans is paying the price for not canceling the Mardi Gras. I care more about the people of Louisville than I do about the crappy NBA.

You’re getting way ahead of yourself. No events where people gather will happen anywhere in this country until the government give the green light. Any dates mentioned are very tentative.

Not sure how much commerce is created with NO fans in the stands.

At least that will prevent the visual of several thousand people half filling the lower bowl...

Not this year...

"Though news of the coronavirus pandemic has been discouraging, NBA executives still cling to hope of arranging a one-site, fan-less, 16-team playoff and a five-to-seven-game regular-season prelude, according to multiple NBA sources..."

My understanding was the games will be no fans allowed wherever the site also. Attendance would be low during an economic downturn if allowed.

Unemployed or recently hired people would probably have other priorities?

But hell yeah TV ratings would be good. Not sure what power if any Beshear has to block it?

Come play games in our empty arena and increase the chances of spreading deadly virus? Sounds great!

The teams would be dining locally and buying from local merchants. That’s hundreds of millionaires and a few billionaire owners that’ll be located in our city. All concentrated in LOUISVILLE

That’s too much money and exposure to pass up.

Western conference in The Yum and Eastern Conference at Freedom Hall.

These seats could be full. Business owners don't give a darn if they're filled by NBA fans or Louisville fans. But some people can't shelf their pride for one minute and don't realize there is a world outside of their bubble.

Since each team has a 15 player roster and no fans will be permitted I don’t think that will generate 100’s of millions of dollars for the community. Under normal circumstances with fans filling the arenas they might but not this year.
