Yes, but apparently you aren't considering alternative points of view. Louisville struggled with other teams throughout last season, even lesser teams. The 1st half of the Clemson game wasn't the only time they were playing bad on both sides of the ball. More than enough evidence that you can't just right off that half as a fluke. The reality is, last year Clemson proved they can stop Louisville, but Louisville also proved they can score on Clemson.
The bottom line is this. Last year is over. It has nothing to do with last year. The teams are different. The game situations will be different. Trying to look back at last year to predict the winner this year is a fool's errand.
I didn't make any predictions on this year's game. I don't do that and won't do that. I'll be there and am looking forward to one helluva game. I do think at this point, Clemson's defense could be the difference but I do think Auburn is overrated based on their performances to this pointy plus Kent State is awful. Whereas, Purdue is vastly improved over what they were over the past two seasons. Plus UNC is far, far better than Kent State, so I think UofL has had better test to this point. Just my opinion.

And I would have to disagree with that last assessment. Purdue isn't vastly improved. They lost to Louisville and beat a MAC team (same league as Kent St). Nothing there to show "vast improvement." North Carolina hasn't won a game yet. Are they better than Kent St? Of course. Does that mean they are actually good? No. Of the four teams Louisville and Clemson have played, Auburn by far has the most talent. That's not even debatable.
Once again, the reality is that we are early in the season, and we don't know how good these teams actually are. All this back and forth is just fans trying to convince themselves their team will win.
Louisville is a great team, I've said as much earlier in a thread that I think this is our biggest challenge this year. You point of view on last years game is lacking though. Clemson was the better team. That was proven on the field. Sure there are upsets every weekend but you can't really call it that. If clemson had went on to lose 4 games and Louisville had only lost to clemson you would have a case.
That didn't happen though as clemson was the one to go on and win the division, conference title game, playoff game, then the national title. Louisville went on to lose a couple more games as well as your bowl game. I honestly think you where better than your record last year. I just don't think you have a case when talking about our game, the better team won and the turnovers made it closer than it should have been.
This year you have home field advantage, a great offensive mind as a coach, the most dynamic QB in the game. You should feel good about your chances. if I was in your shoes I would feel good about pulling off the upset as well. We though feel good about our chances to win the game. Either way looking for a good game that represents our conference well. after Saturday If we win I will be a Louisville fan the rest of the way and if we lose I will be a Louisville fan after you lose two games in conference.
Clemson's a great program and deserved every bit of last season's results. You guys were ready for the big stage, and U of L wasn't. We had the ability, but it takes more than that.
The Tigers were deceptively good last year because they didn't always overpower teams but usually had the answers to what the opponent could do. Similarly, U of L was probably better than any team in the country the first half of last year, but went through some issues the latter half that rendered us a watered down version of how we started. Clemson could figure things out whenever needed; U of L could not.
The one thing Clemson can take from last year's game is that the Tigers beat U of L playing close to their best. Both teams made mistakes in their DV showdown, but that's to be expected with a lot on the line. As close as this year's game is projected to be, I like that this is a home game for Louisville much as that probably made the difference in last year's game.
Thank God that U of L landed in the ACC where these games are a reality for us. Old timers with a longer view this situation as impossible to lose...

Yeah clemson was a heart attack waiting to happen the first part of the season. It was almost like they didn't think they could lose and where just going thru the motions for awhile waiting for the playoff. Now the big games like Louisville and FSU they came out on fire then the game got close or either completely lost the lead and had to rally. Then against teams like Troy, nc state, etc they just simple played down. The Pitt game was honestly the best thing that happened to the team. It's like they saw hey they can be beat. Clemson was a completely different team after the loss.
We can't play like that this year and especially against Louisville cause we will be run out of the stadium. I'm hoping they come out on fire and never let up cause if they give Lamar and company a chance to come back or get a couple TD lead I don't think we can recover this time. Also if they come out slow y'all can take over the game in a hurry even with our defense. Just have to play sound football.
Should be fun though and I'm hoping for a good game with no injuries. Honestly I know y'all where happy about the game against FSU last year but with two top ACC teams playing prime time it kinda hurts the view of the league with such a dominant performance. If someone dominates this game I'm hoping it's a good game for the first half or 3 quarters with someone pulling away late

I agree for another reason... The team losing gets portrayed as overrated which diminishes the win. And I believe it took FSU several more games to recover from it psychologically. Better that these games are highly competitive like the DV game was last year...
I agree. FSU was better than they showed there last season. If either of our teams completely blow out the other it won't be like the SEC where the storyline goes that both teams are great just one is over the top great. it will be the opposite where the storyline would be well Louisville just wasn't that good or clemson just wasn't that good.
I'm going to say this too. I really like the fact y'all are in the conference now. Also love watching your baseball team play!! Just love how McDonnell coaches the game and how his players play the game. I think your football team and basketball team is a big plus for our conference as well. Baseball and basketball are both elite!! I Could only dream of having clemson basketball on you level.
Don't mean at all to sound disrespectful with this but I see your football team as a great program not elite. Think your just like we where a few years ago during our Boyd, spiller years. Being a team that can beat anyone on any given Saturday. Have all the nice toys (skill players) a team could ever want. The one thing back then that held us in the top 10 to top 15 range and not the top 3-5 was in he trenches. If we came up on a team that had a great OL or a great DL we sometimes won but we also struggled at times. We had good starters but if we had one injury it would be catastrophic to the team. I don't watch you every weekend but I just feel like that's where you are.
I go by that with looking at the sacks allowed last season and watching good DL players but it seemed like you didn't rotate a whole lot and they got a little tired over the back half of the season. So I don't say that To be disrespectful in any way. I say that cause I see y'all building just like we did and good things coming to your team in the future. Just wish like h^** that when you get that OL and that depth all over the trenches they would split Clemson, FSU, and Louisville up cause that's a straight up dog fight for the division crown with where these three programs will be in the next few years.
There's another obstacle U of L faces WRT to a football program like Clemson's, and that's location. We can't recruit a team full of 4-star and high 3-star players in our backyard. And the climate here isn't conducive to football year round. Obviously, national programs north of Louisville have overcome that, but there are few, if any, that are in building mode.
Offsetting that is Louisville athletics are the only action in a good-sized town. Some kids nowadays wanna come here because of that, e.g., the football program is billed as the town's "NFL team." Louisville's not much smaller locally than Nashville, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis which have NFL teams.
Could be a beauty-in-diversity situation. We're different but with a common objective: to excel in football...

I agree with this 100%. High 30's and that means LJ has run wild and Clemson loses by double digits. Clemson will play very aggressively on defense and try for a lot of 3 and outs (see the 1st half last year). While the offense will try to hold on to the ball and make long drives (which Clemson was UNABLE to do all year last year and they specifically shiiit the bed in the UL game by turning it over 5 times). Clemson does those two things, they win by double digits. Color me skeptical until I see it happen on either side... I'm thinking a knuckle biter to the end..
Louisville's run defense is the 2nd best in the nation. Gotta think that the pass D will be helped by Jaire's return (if that happens - and I have serious doubts).

I think pretty much everyone here will agree with you on that. Gotta have a few titles to be "elite."
