Hey guys, I'm heading to Louisville tomorrow afternoon, having surgery Thursday morning. Long story short, my wife and I love seafood and I was curious if there are any really good seafood restaurants there? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

I’ve eaten at River House many times because I’ve had to and I think it is terrible and way over priced. If you want to spend an equivalent amount and get better seafood go to Captain’s Quarters or Mitchell’s Seafood or if you want to just eat good fish for a reasonable price try King Fish (beside River House) or my local watering hole, Cunninghams Creekside.

The Seafood Lady is REALLY good and has opened a second location in NULU....if you don't mind spending some $$$$ Seviche is incredible most nights.
Went to the one in Lexington a couple of months ago but is permanently closed .

I mean they have fish but it's not a seafood restaurant. However, only one that exist, plus they still have a car hop service and an old school counter dining experience. The old school counter, decorated in maybe a "50s or 60s" design, the person cooks and waits on you. They also have a bunch of desserts, including an awesome banana split. It's not a fancy dining experience but doesn't feel like a city restaurant, reasonable prices and one of a kind.

Just wanted to try to give you an idea, I feel like you're gonna think I own it or something lol. I started typing and at the end, I felt like I was typing up a review lol. Be careful and I hope your surgery goes well. If you go, let me know if you liked it. I think anybody in this thread will feel good, if they introduced to something you like. Your a solid poster here as well. So may have to spend an extra few days, if you get a bunch of recommendations lol.

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm glad to have several options. It's always nice to be able to ask questions like this on here, rarely disappoints.

Never been to the Louisville location but have visited all of the Jeff Ruby's in Cincinnati multiple times and Lexington location once. I dined at Lexington Ruby's in July and ate all seafood- incredible meal.

Lobster Bisque, King Crab and Lobster entree for me. They also have Sushi, a full raw bar, Tuna, Sea Bass,....plus if you change your mind and want a steak you'll be hard pressed to find a better one, or just go with both.

Mike Linnigs is pretty much all fried. Can’t recommend it. River House is over rated. Eddie Merlot had great tuna tartare but thx to the woke rioters they’ve left town. Jeff Ruby’s probably has best and freshest seafood.

I’d give a second for Seviche if you don’t mind spending a little more. The chef Anthony Lamas is kind of a celebrity chef and the restaurant has won national awards. It’s really a great place for a special occasion.
If you are going to be downtown, maybe Doc Crows. Really delicious Po Boys.

Take your lady to Repeal and thank me later. they have some seafood but atmosphere and food is best in town. Yes, better than Rubys.

I've never been to Rubys but my office is in the same building (and I've been in there exactly once because I've been working from home since last March) but I cannot get over the $45 steak on the kids menu. Kids aren't worth that.

Noticed a few Captain's Quarters listed. Man, they ain't got nothin on Captain D's. They are the best Captain in town, everyone knows that. But only the downtown Louisville one. it ranks right up there with the Pizza Hut in Gatlinburg. Location, location, location. There is just something "different" about the Captain D's in downtown Louisville. Maybe have it as a fallback plan or second seafood meal. Never can get enough good seafood.

This.

I had occasion to go Ruby's on back to back nights a few years ago... didn't have the appetite for another Hatchet (lol) on the second night so I went with all seafood (halibut was the entree- amazing).

Crazy to think of going to Ruby's for seafood... but you will not be disappointed.

I had halibut at Dudleys in Lexington and it was so good. And the side was mustard greens wrapped with country ham 🤤

The steak at Repeal is fantastic and on par with anywhere in town but the atmosphere isn't anywhere close to Ruby's. Would be tough to even put it in the top five for Louisville in terms of that.
