Was the 2006 beat down by LSU and this game gives a similar feeling. It would be nice to see a repeat of the way that team responded from that game for the rest of that season and thru the revenge of that game in 2007 the team played almost perfect ball for there personal

Not even close. Everyone knew that beat down was coming. Letting usm come from behind, then dominate us, all while running 2 plays, at home; is nowhere close.

The closest would be Brooks almost losing to Ohio. Almost losing. Not actually losing. Of course that was with a squad 1/10 as talented as this one.

Im still behind stoops 110%. He's a proven coach at FSU and recruiting at a level once deemed impossible here at UK. This team will finish 7-5 mark it down

Well you could very well see a big shift in recruiting if he doesnt win 6..

The difference is Brooks can coach >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Stoops
It had not been proven at that time he could coach at Ky in the SEC actually he had regressed from the Morris years.

Brooks had College and NFL success. Stoops has a legacy of being the 1 Football head coach who was dumb enough to think he didnt need a Special teams coach..........for a whole season.
He was still on the verge of being fired and the general feeling was he would be,
Would definitely be nice. But that game was on the road against LSU, this was at home against...well you know all that stuff.

Still, by Saturday at 3:30 I will be on my couch and convincing myself that we pull off a miracle!
That game was just the accumulation of the Brooks tenure to that time as Sat was for Stoops.

I'm still wondering why we keep trying to draw similarities between Brooks' tenure and Stoops. There are almost zero similarities between the two guys. Stoops is an emotional roller coaster, Brooks was steady. Stoops plays in a watered down SEC East, Brooks coached when Florida was rolling, Georgia was rolling, South Carolina was rolling, Tennessee was just as good or better than they are now and Louisville had the most success in the history of their program. I could go on and on.

There are zero similarities in the two situations. Stoops has done less with more and Brooks did more with less. Bottom line.

Stoops can recruit, draw boosters, and give good coachspeak during press conferences. Brooks could coach, develop players, make solid in-game adjustments and beat some solid teams along the way. Two totally different guys and situations.

We'll see if Stoops has the discipline to stick to his plan like Brooks did. We'll also see if that plan is a good one. The lowest point of the Brooks tenure was when he stepped down. He beat the national champs, took us to new heights and still couldn't get what was promised to him.

Yes the ability to actually coach the game of football is something Brooks has over Stoops

Players LOVED Brooks and he was tough as nails. Would chew you out one minute but 2 minutes later would seek you out, put an arm around you and build you back up.

Stoops has a recruiting plan and facilities plan, but needs to learn how to be a head coach and not micromanage. Hire your coordinators, share your philosophy, and leave them alone.

In all fairness your right Brook was a better coach at that point in his career and Stoops may never catch him but he has a chance to prove he can coach by getting to a bowl game this year, if not hes gone IMO

Brooks also didn't spend half a football game, stroking out, covering his mouth so national tv couldn't see him swearing while he chewed out refs. He cussed their *** out kept his composure and moved on with the game.

I said it in another thread but some of those Brooks teams could win 8-9 games in this SEC landscape. SEC was much tougher then than it is now. He took freshman Morgan Newton into UGA and Auburn and won. Stoops doesn't have that many road SEC wins in his entire tenure here.

I'm very interested to see the talent that goes to the NFL from UK in the next 2-3 seasons. I fully expect Stoops to be here at least 2 more seasons unless we go 2-10. Seemed like Brooks teams always had 3-5 guys get drafted. With a team full of his guys that are much higher rated out of HS we'll see how many of Stoops' guys go to the NFL. I feel like I'm forgetting someone, but Za'Darius Smith is the only Stoops recruit that has been drafted. That has to change.

Our putrid draft showing recently are thanks to Joker. Stoops hasn't had anyone draft eligible except for JUCOs and early entrant 2013 players, none of whom were the type of prospects that could reasonably be expected to leave early. This year, Toth is the only senior who appears to be a likely draft choice and none of the juniors, with the possible exception of Boom, would be wise to leave early. However, after this year, we should then start having the 3-5 players getting drafted annually.

Brooks low point was a loss to Ohio U in his 2nd year...but Brooks fired (or was forced to fire Hudson as OC) and never looked back.

Even in Brooks early down years...we were competitive in losses. Almost beat UF at home, Arkansas crazy overtime battle, etc... and then we beat UGA, Clemson in bowl game and the following year we had the LSU game and nearly beat UF, UT game was a nail bitter, etc...

Stoops has been hammered and no close losses to good team so far. We'll see what he does in year 4...but I don't see us being competitive with UT, Bama, UF, UL or UGA.

Not blaming Stoops. Just saying he needs to have more guys in the NFL. We'll see how many he gets drafted in the next 2 years.

Was not trying to compare the two as much as hoping for a similar turn around after the beat down by LSU the light seemed to turn on for both the Coaches and Players as most had written them off this team is facing the same dilemma or cross roads and I think we will see a reaction just hope it is positive.. Peace

He never looked back because he had Joker as OC?

Good grief, that 2006 LSU team finished the season ranked 3rd, was superb, probably a better team than any team in the country right now. Easily one of the best 2-loss teams in college football ever. No way they would have lost in a 4 team play-off on neutral sites that year.

Comparing Brooks and Stoops coaching ability is crazy. Brooks would coach circles around Stoops . I'd like to see what Brooks could do with this team. I guarantee you Brooks wouldn't blow a 35 to 10 lead at home to USM.

Not so sure about that. I saw several big leads evaporate this weekend with coaches I would take in a heartbeat. I'm not defending Stoops, he blew that lead and has dug himself quite a hole.

People tend to look at the Brooks Era through rose colored glasses. Fans were calling for his head after year 3 as well.

Stoops isn't the man for the job imo, but there's zero chance he's going anywhere until after at least year 5.

Brooks was a good 10 years younger than Stoops when he got his first HC job. Fact is, most successful HCs get their first HC job much younger than Stoops did. I can't explain why Stoops waited so long but it doesn't seem like it could be a positive.
