Loyola - MS

The comparison between MS & LA common opponents isn't the best measure.
Loyola lost to MC, but smashed NT. MS beat both MC & NT.
The Loyola/NT game being a "neighborhood thing" can go either way as we know. NT, did lose some players in that game and it did have an impact, particularly in pass game. NT, played MS, healthy and on a roll. MS, won primarily running the ball, NT was extremely effective throwing it.
Mount Carmel ran on Loyola. Loyola didn't overpower MC running the ball.
CSL games between top teams(MS,ETHS,NT) were very competitive this year, making them better teams.MS non confetence schedule tough too. Loyola schedule just brutal as well.

If Loyola doesn't pass the ball well MS, shuts the run down in a run away victory.
If MS, doesn't run well, Loyola wins.
Multiple turnovers, and it's a wrap for the team losing them.
Loyola O-Line....just ridiculous size, vs MS D-Line, just bonkers on the toughness meter.

location,location,location....@Swag High, Loyola must absolutely play its best game of the year to win. MS....not so much, just continue to do what they do to people on their field.

Plus, who doesn't want to see LWE vs MS.
Best analysis and understanding of LA vs MS I've read yet. You nailed it

I get that analyzing common opponents is risky. But, I have to say that I have found it to be reasonably reliable more often than not. It becomes even more reliable when the common opponent isn't mediocre or worse. MS beat MC by a one score margin in a crazy weather delayed game, Loyola lost to MC by a one score margin that came inches away from going the other way. LA crushed NT. MS found NT to be a much tougher opponent than LA did. I don't think it is unreasonable from the above to posit that this Saturday's game will be close and that there is no clear favorite.
Ramblinman
"no clear favorite" reminds me of LA arrogance in Champaign 2016. Your HC has more humility than most of your freshmen. Good luck there.

I like your analysis. This game should be close and I agree since MS is at home Loyola will need to bring their A game and must avoid turnovers to win. MS is really tough at home and their coach is very good at making in game adjustments. Loyola needs to stop the run and have a balanced attack on offense. I think Loyola is clicking at the right time but MS is just tough. Flip a coin but I am going with Loyola to squeak this one out.

MS as declared by the board is "special" and they are at home......that makes them at least a 7 1/2 point favorite..........LA has their work cut-off for them - clearly not the favored team in this situation......!

Heard LA is bringing their band to Wilson Field. Might work at NT, but doubt it will in PR. If you boys go to PR on Saturday, I'll come to the game and chug a Zombie with you. You'll want one.

I hope the crowd resembles the 2009 semi final at Wilson Field. People were everywhere. Sitting on the stairs of the bleachers, on rooftops across the street and the surrounding fences. Probably the most physical game between the two teams. Also IMO the best LA defense in the Holecek era.

Please do explain.
As LA Holecek said after Oswego game re MS, "I don't make the brackets, we just play whoever we play." Humble, first class coach.

After watching these 2 play over the last decade - but especially 2016, I was at LA in week 2 where MS lost 44-43 by going for 2 at the end of the game - and despite the defender clearly interfering / pulling the receivers back of the jersey so that the ball fell to the ground. Great game and maybe even a 'normal' no call at LA home field.

Then as teams headed to Champaign, average LA fan lost their memory of that game - and EXPECTED to win. Whether parents were at Houlhans pre-game or players walking into stadium, LA and MS always think they can win. Difference in my post - LA never thinks they will lose.

And I get why. I think. LA has recruited the 3 State area better than any other HS program in the last decade. Phenomenal strategy for a strong academic-orientated North Shore HS. MS is a public school that is almost always undersized (against NT, Evanston, MC, Barrington) and LWE last year (twice) of course. Our Greek and Italian kids are fast, but not a lot of D1s leaving MS besides a Polish kid every other year.

And that's LA Achilles heal with MS. Not the HC, but most LA supporters already count their wins before the games are played. Arrogance like a no-nothing Freshman would since his Mom/Dad paid his tuition. He didn't earn it - his parents did. MS and other public programs like it have great coaches, who get the kids to believe they can beat anyone. Or they can LOSE any game like MS did in 2016 to NT, Barrington, and LA.

So LA coming to Wilson Field at 33 degrees isn't a 'coin toss'. I know LA had injuries and tough schedule to rationalize their losses. MS also had both of those factor. MS kids will have a mental edge that LA wishes they could buy or scholarship, and MS will show LA again that mental advantage tomorrow with confidence and anger. Tough to scheme.

Why don’t you go chug something, guy. So, LA fans/parents/alumni determine what happens on the field due to our arrogance...that’s logical.

Lots going on here, but I don't see any explanation of your original post- in fact you just distanced yourself from what you stated. In my opinion, you do not represent the typical MS fan. MS4EVER, PR are the real fans. They bring insight, valuable thoughts and, above all, class. I have always enjoyed their banter over the years. I am not sure why I am even responding to your post. Perhaps it's because my Father was a Chicago Police Officer, as many of my classmates parents at Loyola were as well. Many of those young men and women have followed in their parents footsteps. I take offense to your claim that "arrogance" runs rampant at Loyola and that the kids don't earn what they have and will achieve now and in life. "He didn't earn it - his parents did." I don't think that is true. It sounds like you have an ax to grind, but perhaps this is not the forum to do so.

Both schools represent what I want my kids to be- hard working, dedicated, loyal, confident. I have nothing but respect for Maine South, their faculty and coaches. Hopefully, someday, you will appreciate this rivalry and appreciate the great young men and women that both schools are able to produce.

I could not agree more! Both are terrific communities. I can confidently state that both teams and coaching staffs agree that it is an honor to be in the quarters, playing each other. I wish the best of luck to both teams!

Very interesting read. Over the years LA and its community have been mischaracterized in many fashions. This is just another in a long line. It really is a disservice to the many middle class families that sacrifice to give their children an opportunity that the parents may not have had. It also is a slap to the many generous and kind people that donate and give to the school so that other less fortunate may have the same opportunity they may have had.
To be called elitist and soft by a Napoleonic syndromed elitist is rather humorous. I put that on you and not the Maine South community. But having said all that, we shall see how soft our Greek and Italian boys from Park Ridge along with our Irish, German, Polish, Serbian and African American boys play tomorrow.

maybe chi town is a "Russian Troll".........spreading anarchy on both sides of the fence .........chaos among the norm !!!!! Democracy and free speech comes with many dangers that can be exploited and used in twisted ways to pit and escalate and inflame passions on both sides to dangerous levels.......we here on the board are to wise to fall for that....and in the end understand that while it is a passion for many of us - it is still only HS Football and these are young men that we hope have fun , stay injury free and learn real life lessons from the game! Hopefully they are smart enough to ignore all the noise around them - and simply enjoy the game of football!

I explained my position as requested. I'm neither a Russian, an anarchist, nor an elitist. Sometimes the truth hurts, especially when you're either too sensitive or vulnerable, or maybe some of you take your own insular opinions, understanding and knowledge of football a little too serious. Game is played tomorrow at 1 PM in PR by a bunch of kids and a few coaches. Just won't be 'a coin toss' or won by a team who's tuition rivals University of Illinois (also over-rated). Sanctimonious meatheads. Pfft
