Elon Musk's latest (serious) competitor is scheduled a long last to be introduced to the media tonight (4PM PDT/7PM EDT)......
The Lucid Air, designed by the Engineering father of the Tesla Model S, Peter Rawlinson, is said to be the fastest 4 door EV in the business (9.9 second 1/4 mile) with a supposed range of 517 miles (versus 402 miles for the Tesla Model S). The car won't be cheap; said to be priced from $80-169K depending on configuration, while Model S pricing begins around $75K.
Obviously, Tesla has juice (no pun intended) Lucid can only dream of having at this point.....and even Rawlinson himself admits the line is "nothing" until it's into production. Other boutique brands (like the Karma and Rivian) have tried (or will try) this idea......and so have major global auto manufacturers.......but as Lucid claims, Tesla can't supply everyone who wants an EV (which may or may not be true).
The Company is currently >50% owned/bankrolled by the Arabians; so capital wouldn't seem to be an issue (at least in the near term). Anyway. we'll see how it goes for this hoped-for high-end EV player.
