It's TDM, so take it with a grain of salt.

I've never seen him in anything before but there's a lot of love for the guy, apparently. And it's well past time to do something new with Bond. So I'm 100% down for this (I'd personally prefer Henry Cavill, but with his commitment to Warhammer, that probably ain't happening).

If the intent is to change based on race, Idris Elba should be the next Bond. Has the cool and the chops to be a badass 007.

He'd be great if he was Cavill's age. But he's 50, and the producers have said that they want the new Bond to be in play for at least 15 years.

Not a fan - and I’ll get skewered but here goes:
1) Bond was written and has source material
2) see below

While I find Trevor Noah to be as objectively unfunny as it comes, this Roywood guy gets it. Us white dudes gotta have something left haha. James Bond is the white man’s dream job. Denzel has given black men plenty of badass characters to emulate!

I know this is the excuse given, I just think it's bs. Whomever plays bond has to agree to an exclusivity arrangement. No one of any star power will be only bond for 15 years. Anyone not a star now, will be if they are any good in those films.

They're crazy if they don't cast Idris Elba. He is awesome, fits the British heritage, and satisfies the diversity criers. It's literally a can't miss situation even though admittedly it's a relatively short term solution. Although I think him being 50 is just another excuse because he doesn't look 50

I think if Idris Elba was the choice he'd have a 90% approval rating with fans. But he's 50 and the studio probably wants someone a lot younger. Craig was 38 when he did Casino Royale. This Lucien guy is 30.

I had reservations about Stringer being the next Bond, until I watched Luther. IMO he's far and away the best choice, but unlikely to happen.

Honestly he's great in everything I've seen him in. He's one of the only character bright spots in Prometheus, he's fantastic as Charles Miner in The Office, and he's timeless as Stringer Bell in The Wire. And you can honestly see a little bit of "Bond" in all three of those characters.

Movies that have sequels tend to come in 3's and I could see Elba being able to do 3 movies over the next 10 years. Hell, Harrison Ford is still doing Indiana Jones and he is 80.

Rumor floating around that this would be a whole new Bond too. Not sure what that meant. I assume they are losing the mi6 and q and all that maybe. I kind of felt each new Bond was a new Bond but they seem to be saying they are changing his backstory and all.

100% I'd be on board with that.

Look, I don't care about race changes in an iconic character if there's a compelling reason to do so. If there isn't one, don't change it just to change it.

When i first saw " A Time to Die" I thought with James "apparent" death at the end that setup a Reboot as a New 007 since it just an assigned number with whoever they wanted and he not named James Bond. I guess they really could not do it because of the Iconic Name "James Bond".

I'm a big Bond fan and expected they would pull the "Must be a woman or black" switch. The thing is, if it is Iris Elba you wouldn't have people taking an issue because he's very well-liked and he's good but doing it for the sake of just doing it is stupid.

Elba is four years younger than Craig so it's fine since I doubt they're going back to the origin like they did with Craig in Casino.

But if they go with Aaron Taylor Johnson, I'd be down with that. He was great in Bullet Train.

As far as I am concerned, killing James Bond was BLASHPHEMY. I think all 3 names mentioned in this thread would be fine with me.

But, the very first thing the new Bond needs to do is duck into a cave before he gets blown up and actually survive NO TIME TO DIE. Is he going to have a new name? 009? Screw that.

Fix NO TIME TO DIE.

Wouldn't put it past them that it's the unknown son of James and only takes the Bond name after entering service.

Has to be named James Bond, No?
Can't be named Sherlock Smyth right?
Not sure but when they said they were doing a whole new James Bond they seemed like it wasn't going to be like all the other actor changes. They made it sound like its not the same character anymore.

Not like the others had continuity. This will just be a reboot like all of the others.

I didn't want Bond to die but Craig was insistent on it for multiple movies. He also seemed super ungrateful to be Bond which is ridiculous considering Bond opened up the doors for him. Before that I only saw him in Layer Cake.

Given Craig's ridiculous Knives Out garbage, one would think he would be easily convinced to "man up" once more.

Never forget he said this

"For actors of a certain masculine bent, James Bond has long been viewed as a career pinnacle. But after four films as 007 Daniel Craig says he has had enough, and would “rather slash my wrists” than reprise the role.

If that wasn’t enough, the 47-year-old admitted that if he did return as Bond it would be just for the money. He took a similarly dismissive opinion on that staple of British conversational life, who should take over in the role: “Look, I don’t give a f---.”

Then he walked it back in 2021 to promote No Time to Die and said he was just hurt and joking but came off as ungrateful.
