There seem to be a few people in that area moving out of their homes.

Remember folks, if you question how schools are run you are stealing from the children.
Make all the school districts county based (eliminate hundreds of school districts)with plenty of over site and save the taxpayers billions. North Carolina close in size and population to Illinois has a fraction of the overhead Illinois has

You don't even have to go that far just put a kid in a single district K-12. What's the point of having a high school district that serves two elementary/ middle school districts other then to employ three sets of administrators?

That school district's financial dealings are an absolute mess. It is unreal, but not too unexpected, to see what's coming out over there. Buying land that you don't need. Commissions for the sale showing a complete conflict of interest. Charging people ridiculous amounts for driver's ed. Being forced to pay some of it back. A lot of money too, not just a little. I think there is a lot more going on too and I hope it all gets uncovered and people end up going to jail. Talk about corruption.

I wonder if the other FB head coaches in the district are receiving other "perks".
It doesn't really surprise me that they would do this. I know other districts that turn a blind eye to things going on with their FB coach/program or give their HC extras that others don't get.

I seem to remember having this same conversation months ago...

I seem to think we'll be having this conversation months from now.
They didnt state how they got such information, just assert that its happening.

Going back over a year, and especially heightened since the LWN closing, affected residents have been getting the info about financial mismanagement in bits and pieces.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/subur...ay-wyllie-annuity-st-0403-20160401-story.html

Of course, it comes in bits and pieces since the officials typically stonewall any attempts to reveal such info. FOIA requests can take quite awhile.

And even longer if the sensitive info is kept on a private server. In a bathroom. In Colorado.

Districts can do whatever they want. It is actually taught in some educational admin classes that things like that should be used as bargaining items. Cars, housing, vacation time. Take a look at that house. It's not like he was living in a mountainside chalet. And yes, I do live in the district. There is a ton of mismanagement and ridiculous things that money is spent on (plaques for dead relatives, etc.), but this is hardly a big deal.

I was thinking the same thing in terms of this not being a big deal. At least he is paying rent. Whether it is market value or not is irrelevant to me.

Illegal, maybe not.
Unethical and poor judgement, absolutely.
Bad timing on their part. Notice that it said he moved out once the investigation started. Coincidence? I think not.
Remember, he is part of a collective bargaining unit. Any benefits or compensation must be written in the collective bargaining contract.
This gives outsiders more ammunition to raise hell against the district, teachers, coaches, and public education as a whole.

He paid rent so I am not sure the benefit unless the house was listed for $1500 and signed a deal for $500. Market value is one number however what can the really get from a house basically on a school lot. What would be unethical is if they moved a star players family in this house for rent as low as $500 to get him to come there. Just because a coach got cheap rent in a house that obviously the district was unsure on what to do with it is really not a big deal at all. So now he moved out and the house is never rented out and now the District lose more money because some people are concerned with "who" lives in a house own by the district.

It seems like some of the residents who pay taxes in that district feel differently.

The IRS could get a hold of this and make him claim income on the amount that he rented under market value. Plus, the rent was cheaper than the mortgage payment for 30 years plus property taxes. I believe they said the tax payment is $3700 annually so that's 300 per month plus the cost of the mortgage (112k @3.75% x 360) which is $519. That is a minimum of $820 per month without including the utilities they paid or the services to maintain the property. Sounds like a "benefit" to me, but what do I know.
Lets call it like it is. They have a great football coach who seems to have needed a residence for a few months or longer and they took care of him. In Corporate America, that would be fine, but not in public education, and not when the district is in the shape that it is in now.

And I seem to remember this public vs private nonsense being talked about for years on this board. At least this story is still in the papers.

Larry Wyllie was my basketball coach at York High School. He was forced out as coach by the parents. He was a terrible coach, teacher, and person. His pension is ridiculous. $325.000 a year is so wrong. My teachers pension starting this year is only about $50,000.

Actually the FOIA documents received from District 210 only list the rent being paid about half of the months during the time the house was occupied.

Look up sarcasm in the dictionary.

Knowing the definition of sarcasm has nothing to do with not being able to detect it on this message board. If I had a dollar for everyone here who failed to detect sarcasm in posts, including you, I'd have a whole bunch of dollars. Just because a person fails to detect sarcasm certainly doesn't mean he's ignorant of the definition.

OK, so I failed to detect your sarcasm in the post. My mistake. Not the first time it's happened either, but so what. What did I actually lose? That's right...nothing.
